Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect has teamed up with funk legend George Clinton for a new single titled “Ezekiel’s Wheel.”
Arriving ahead of Erick’s forthcoming debut solo album, I’ve Never Been Here Before, “Ezekiel’s Wheel” demonstrates his style, combining soul, funk, and hip-hop influences with free-flowing verses inspired by his upbringing attending church with his family in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Between Erick’s stanzas, Clinton interjects with anchoring lines like: “And there it is/ so goes the story/ Do the best you can/ and then funk it.”
The single features a beat produced by Matt Zara and arrives today along with a visualizer consisting of shots of Erick and Clinton. Watch it below.
So far, Erick has shared three other singles from I’ve Never Been Here Before. In July 2023, he dropped the lead single “Parkour,” which featured production by James Blake. In October, he shared “Ambrosia” featuring Channel Tres,...

Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect has announced his highly-anticipated debut solo album, I’ve Never Been Here Before, out February 23rd. As the latest preview, the rapper has shared the new single, “Shook Up,” featuring Joey Bada$$ and Farr.
The 16-track LP delves into deeply personal themes of Black resilience and fearlessness, soundtracked by intertwining sounds of hip-hop, soul, dub, and psych. Linden Jay, T-Minus, and James Blake served as producers, with Westside Boogie, George Clinton, Channel Tres, and Kimbra contributing features.
After years of collaboration, “Shook Up” is the first track to see Erick and Joey Bada$$ unite as a rap duo. In a press statement, Erick said, “I’ve always admired Joey’s ability to tell stories and he came to mind as soon as Linden and Romeo played me the demo of the record. I loved bringing both of these worlds together, as I’m a...

Erick the Architect has moved 2,790 miles from New York City and landed in Los Angeles. As one third of legendary hip hop group Flatbush Zombies, Erick changed the soundscape of the genre as the trio’s rapper-producer — pushing the Zombies into bold new sounds and narratives that both confounded and inspired fans and cementing themselves as one of the most respected crews in hip hop.
While the tight-knit act has often been labeled as “psychedelic hip hop,” their music went beyond that narrative, and at times, explored the darkness of death and depression.

Rapper Drake encouraged Nelly Furtado’s musical comeback. Nelly, 44, revealed that fellow Canadian Drake, 36, – who invited her to be a surprise guest for his All-Canadian North Stars event in Toronto last summer – reminded her about her legacy and value to the music industry and urged her to get back in the studio to work on new music.
She told Variety: “I have more gratitude nowadays, so I know how blessed I am to be a performer and creator. I’m really leaning into my profession. I met Drake a year ago and we had some deep conversations about life and art and he blew up my head reminding me what a valuable artist I am and told me to ‘boss up’ and make new music, and I listened. So, I couldn’t say no when he invited me on stage, I had to be brave and boss up and start the next chapter.

Prompt, showing up at noon, Smino walks through the doors of the Brooklyn Museum, where he says he can put his mind at ease and observe. “I like art. I fuck with art.” Smino’s latest, Luv 4 Rent, made its debut almost two weeks before our time together, and it only took a few minutes for people in the museum to notice him. A few made comments about their love for the new album. “It feels good to hear that,” says Smino. However, he hasn’t yet seen the outpouring...

J. Cole’s “Interlude,” the lead single from his just released album The Off-Season, shot to Number One on the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs chart, ending a month-long run for Polo G’s “Rapstar.” Cole self-produced the new track along with T-Minus and Tommy Parker. It pulled in 23 million streams during its first week, giving Cole his first Number One on the Rs 100.
Cole accounted for one of two high-flying debuts: “Miss the Rage,” a new collaboration between Trippie Redd and Playboi Carti, landed at Number Five. Redd posted a...

An Avengers-style posse cut arrived today, unexpectedly. On it, J. Cole outrapped Young Thug. Merely looking at that sentence is painful. Up until this point, the only person to indisputably best Jeffery Lamar Williams on a song was Rich Homie Quan, about half a decade ago.
Then “The London” happened.
Produced by T-Minus and also featuring Travis Scott on moody chorus duties, the track is a prime example of how far Cole has ventured from his curmudgeonly comfort zone and into interesting stylistic territory. His single “Middle Child” is among...

J. Cole must know a good taxidermist. Who else would cut off three SoundCloud rapper’s heads and mount them on a wall with gold plates reading, “Your Favorite Rapper,” “This Could Be You” and “Ask For A Feature?” An insane person in the surrealist world of the “Middle Child” video, that’s who.
Directed by Mez, “Middle Child” is a monument to the Dreamville rapper’s bold proclamation, “I’m the greatest right now.” The outlandish visual features a journey through dark woods filled with dead bodies and a...

J. Cole traverses the landscape of his musical world, looking at the past, present and the future, while asserting his own standing within the rap pantheon in his new song “Middle Child.” The track is the first official single J. Cole has released since 2013.
Produced by T-Minus, J. Cole’s loquacious bars glide over the percolating beats and horn melodies. After calling out those who have been “counting me out,” he encourages others that are on the come-up. “I’m glad that you came/I hope that you scrape every dollar you can.

It’s been estimated that Toronto rap ambassador Drake has worked with some 60 locals on his albums and, no doubt, as he helped put the Canadian city on the map for a new generation, he’s done the same for producers working locally. With Canadian Music Week taking over downtown Toronto this week, the spotlight is on some of the beat-makers who started from the bottom — and now they’re here, as influential and respected members of the global hip-hop community.
Among the top producers is Boi-1da (born Matthew Samuels), who started working with Drake super early, starting with 2006’s “Room For Improvement.” We first see Frank Dukes’ credit on that album, too. Dukes has graduated to producing albums for Camila Cabello and The Weeknd, among many others, while Boi-1da went on to work on Drake’s “Comeback Season” a year later, and more than a decade after, several...

Four years after the release of her most recent album “I Never Learn,” Swedish songstress Lykke Li dropped two new songs, “Deep End” and “Hard Rain.” The songs are the first tracks to emerge from her long-percolating fourth album “So Sad So Sexy”. The album is due on June 8 on RCA Records — Li’s first release with the label.
“Hard Rain,” which is being promoted as the single, was produced by 2016 Grammy producer of the year Jeff Bhasker, Malay and T-Minus. “Hard Rain” was produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij.
The songs mark a stylistic departure for the singer, incorporating elements of the Swedish-pop sound of her previous albums with a more hip-hop/alt-r&B-leaning production.
A rather confusing line in the press release announcing the songs reads “Prior to recording this album, Lykke was busy nurturing liv, her love-child with Andrew Wyatt, Björn Yttling, Pontus Winnberg and Jeff Bhasker,...
