Netflix on Tuesday unveiled five filmmaking teams who will receive funding and professional support to make short documentaries on the theme of “Connection” in the second year of the global streamer’s U.K. Documentary Talent Fund.
The winners were selected from thousands of applications, with a shortlist of 12 teams invited to Netflix’s U.K. headquarters to pitch their projects in front of a panel of industry experts.
The five projects and filmmaking teams selected are:
Anna Snowball & Abolfazl Talooni – Iranian Yellow Pages.
Iranians in London, trapped between two cultures, search for connection by placing weird and wonderful adverts in the Iranian Yellow Pages.
Anna Rodgers & Zlata Filipovic – Two Mothers.
An unusual bond compels an Irish mother of twins to travel to war-torn Ukraine in order to rescue the woman who carried her babies.
Caroline Williamson & Troi Lee – Turn up the Bass.
This is the remarkable story of Troi...

The Edinburgh TV Festival has revealed the 105 successful candidates that have been selected for its talent schemes — Ones to Watch, TV PhD and The Network. The schemes are part of The TV Foundation, the festival’s charity with a mission to identify and nurture the next generation of talent from all backgrounds.
Ones to Watch is aimed at those who already have three or more years’ experience in TV and are looking to make the next big step. Of the final 30 selected, 73% are women, 43% are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and 23% are disabled. More than 63% are freelance, and the remainder have been selected from leading companies, including Netflix, Studio Lambert, Nutopia and Little Dot Studios. The selected candidates will receive three days of bespoke sessions and training and 12 months of mentoring from senior industry figures.

Netflix continues to push the needle of inclusion, representation and diversity but this time, it’s not in front of the camera. The streaming giant has released its inaugural inclusion report that takes an in-depth look at its company diversity numbers and trends since 2017, its progress as well as its plan to increase diversity within its workforce.
In addition to the report, they released a short video (which you can watch above) that helps unpack the report and gives further insight. The short features Vernā Myers, vice president of inclusion strategy; Ted Sarandos, co-ceo and chief content officer; Bozoma Saint John, chief marketing officer; Kabi Gishuru, director of inclusion recruiting programs; Aaron Mitchell, Hr director for Netflix Animation; Rochelle King, vice president of creative production; Aaron Lynch, creative marketing manager; Frances Abebreseh, communications manager; Haydn Palmer, creative assistant; Gena-mour Barrett, editorial and publishing manager; and Cole Gavin, director of content acquisition.
