Considering it is illegal in the state of New York to dispose of any items classified as electronic waste—which contain dangerous toxins—you should definitely consider recycling them instead. Thanks to the Broadway Green Alliance (Bga), New Yorkers with old electronic equipment and appliances can safely and legally clear their conscience. The ad hoc committee (comprised of the Broadway League and part of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ programming) will partner with Lower East Side Ecology Center (Lesec) for an e-waste drive on Feb. 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Duffy Square in New York City. Theater fans and industry professionals now have their own recycling event to look forward to tomorrow, Oct. 21 in New York City’s Duffy Square. Broadway Green Alliance will be accepting clothing, monetary donations, electronic items—including laptops, desktops, monitors, televisions, mice, keyboards, gaming consoles, coffee makers, and other appliances—from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. “It is always great to see how many people come to our recycling events from the theatre community,” said Bga Coordinator, Rebekah Sale, in a statement. “From Broadway stars to off-Broadway techies to the many allied theatre offices who all come to responsibly recycle their unwanted textiles and electronic waste and make theatre greener.” Clothing recycling company Wearable Collections will repurpose or reuse 96 percent of all textile donation and donate part of the proceeds from the event to the Bga to aid in green efforts on the Great White Way.
