Everyone’s talking about Amazon’s new revenge thriller series, Wilderness. Adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by B.E. Jones, and starring Jenna Coleman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Benson, and Eric Balfour, Wilderness landed on the streamer just in time for the rainy season and made a splash thanks to its complex heroin and dark subject matter.
Wilderness follows Liv Taylor (Coleman) as she tries to cope with finding out that her dashing husband Will (Jackson-Cohen) is cheating on her. After marrying Will and choosing to leave her old life in England behind so that they can move to America to advance Will’s career, Liv then snaps when their dream life together falls apart.
Having been raised by a toxic, narcissistic mother, and therefore having entered adulthood as a people-pleaser, Liv cannot bear that she simply wasn’t enough for the one person she was finally able to feel vulnerable with,...

9 June 2023 —Breakout artist Sarah Kinsley has released Ascension, her debut EP for Verve Forecast and Decca UK. The EP’s release is accompanied by a music video for standout track “Black Horse.”
As Kinsley describes the EP: “Ascension is about this unknown, ethereal place—the islands we create with people we have loved, where our phrases with them live, where our conversations outlast us, where every moment we have experienced lives again and again. It’s an eternal paradise. This is the center of this EP: the treasure, the collection of shining memories I carry, I ascend to.”
Sarah Kinsley
The EP’s five songs were created by musician/singer/producer Kinsley in her NYC apartment. Of single “Black Horse,” Kinsley says: – “A black horse is a sign of death – not in the ringing of the knoll, omen sense – but rather, that the horse signifies letting things which no longer serve us to die.

Type O Negative are widely considered the definitive goth metal band, so it’s only appropriate that on World Goth Day (May 22nd), a new AI-generated video for the group’s song “Halloween in Heaven” has been unveiled.
The late Peter Steele originally penned the track as a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, and it was included on what would be Type O’s final album Dead Again in 2007. Dimebag even appears in the new video, alongside the many rock heroes Steele mentions in the song’s lyrics: “Bonham on drums, Entwistle on bass, as guest morticians / Bon Scott on vox, Rhoads just for kicks, on guitar Hendrix / Lennon sits in with his friend George but where is Morrison?”
“An artificial intelligence video for an artificially intelligent band!” remarked Type O Negative’s Johnny Kenny, invoking the band’s signature self-deprecating sarcasm.

Jeff Tweedy fans were treated to an extra serving of the artist on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night. After the frontman sat down with the comedian for an interview, he and his buddies in Wilco hit the stage to perform their song “Tired of Taking It Out on You.”
Released as the second single from Wilco’s 20222 double album Cruel Country, “Tired of Taking It Out on You” reflects how we as a society treat each other. To that end, the group’s subdued performance accompanied Tweedy’s contemplative lyrics. Watch Wilco run through “Tired of Taking It Out on You” below.

Sylvan Esso released their new album No Rules Sandy via Loma Vista to critical acclaim earlier in the year, and after five long years, the duo will return to the UK/EU in 2023 for limited live dates.
Created primarily over the course of three weeks that Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn spent in a small Los Angeles rental home at the beginning of 2022, the album is both the fastest the band has ever made a record, and the most uninhibited. “Even if we weren’t feeling good, we would just sit down and try to make something,” Meath says. “Pretty much every day that we did that, we got a song that we liked.”
The tour will take place in July 2023 and will see headline dates in Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, and London.

Brandi Carlile anchors this weekend’s 48th-season premiere of Austin City Limits, bringing a little bit of church into Austin’s Moody Theater with her.
Specifically, Carlile recalled attending vacation bible school as a kid and doing little projects around parables such as the wise man who built his house on a rock. It ended up inspiring the song “You and Me on the Rock,” which appears on Carlile’s album In These Silent Days, and on its deluxe edition In the Canyon Haze as a duet with her wife Catherine Shepherd.

Yes, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell were this year’s big surprises — but the 2022 Newport Folk Festival contained so much more than a pair of jaw-dropping legends. The first full-capacity iteration of the fest since 2019 featured the desert instrumentals of Hermanos Gutiérrez, the soulful country-pop of Maren Morris, the sweet blues of Taj Mahal, the indie electronic of Sylvan Esso (who debuted a brand-new album), and the scaled-down arena rock of the National, who also premiered brand-new material in their headlining set. Taken in full, this year’s festival represented...

Sylvan Esso have released a fragmented, stripped-down new single, “Your Reality.” The track follows last month’s “Sunburn,” the electronic pop duo’s first new music since 2020’s Free Love.
The instrumentation on “Your Reality” is sparse, with Amelia Meath singing the vocals almost like a poem as she asks, “Were there rules originally, or are we learning how to be?”
In a press release, Meath’s bandmate Nick Sanborn describes the song as a “reference point for how weird we can take it. How bare and strange something can be.

Sylvan Esso straddle the line between pleasure and pain on their surprise new song, “Sunburn,” which dropped Wednesday at midnight. It’s the electronic pop duo’s first new music since 2020’s Free Love.
“Sunburn, blistering… but it felt so good,” Amelia Meath sings over Nick Sanborn’s pulsating production.
The song is a study in contrasts, detailing the exhilaration of pursuing pleasure and pushing the envelope — and surviving the consequences later. As the band explained in a statement: “’Sunburn’ is: eating candy til you’re sick; riding your bike...

It was a tough question for the longtime Wilco fan, but eventually Francis landed on “Theologians,” with some help from his girlfriend.
“I liked that choice because it has a great piano part, and the lyrics really resonate with me as someone who continues to contemplate spirituality,” Francis said in a statement.

LeVar Burton will host the Grammys’ “premiere ceremony,” the pre-telecast afternoon event during which the vast majority of winners will be announced April 3.
The Grammys-before-the-Grammys will get underway at the the MGM Grand Conference Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas at 12:30 p.m. Pt/3:30 Et. The early unveiling of winners be available for streaming on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel as well as at live.grammy.com.
With fewer than 20 categories typically being announced on the air during the prime-time CBS telecast, that means more than three-quarters of the night’s 86 winners will likely be announced during the afternoon event.
A number of performances will be sprinkled into the premiere ceremony, as is customary, with country star and best new artist nominee Jimmie Allen and thrice-nominated Americana artist Allison Russell among those set to lend a tune in the ballroom. Fellow nominees Ledisi, Mon Laferte and Curtis Stewart will perform as well.

The cross-cultural romance film has seen many iterations, so the fact that filmmaker Clio Barnard has added an elegantly crafted and utterly enjoyable new entry into the oversaturated genre is as delightful a surprise as the film itself. Set in Barnard’s West Yorkshire, “Ali & Ava” charts the tender friendship and gradual romance that develops between two lonely souls from different worlds who share a love of music and a mischievous twinkle in their eyes. Energized by the engrossing charisma of leads Adeel Akhtar and Claire Rushbrook, “Ali & Ava” is

Adapting a story like “Sharp Objects” with such a fraught collection of mother-daughter relationships, it makes sense that there was one word that director Jean-Marc Vallée and music supervisor Susan Jacobs returned to when exploring music to use in the telling. Early on in the process, the search was on for some good “mama” songs.
“I was researching, going back and looking and trying to find songs that are ‘mama’ in a different way,” Jacobs told IndieWire. “Country songs have a lot of ‘mama’ and we didn’t want to go there. You can just load up people with lots of ‘mama’ songs from country bands. But to find things like [Sylvan Esso’s] version of ‘Come Down,’ it just felt perfect. Everything that Jean-Marc does, there’s kind of a surreal quality to it in the way he’s shooting, and it just worked out really beautifully. ”
