Night Court Pictured: Melissa Rauch as Abby Stone — (Photo by: Nicole Weingart/NBC/Warner Bros.) The courtroom is buzzing! NBC just dropped the good news – Night Court is officially coming back for a third season of hilarious hijinks. Turns out, viewers can’t get enough of this zany reboot, making it the network’s top comedy. Melissa Rauch, who stars as the relentlessly optimistic Abby Stone, is surely celebrating alongside the show’s executive producers. If you haven’t caught it yet, Abby’s picked up where her dad, the legendary Judge Harry Stone, left off – navigating the wacky world of Manhattan’s night court. Abby’s quest for order and a sprinkle of heart amongst the chaos is pure comedic gold. And who better to clash with than the cynical ex-prosecutor Dan Fielding (John Larroquette)? Despite his grumbles, even Fielding might be softening up under Abby’s infectious enthusiasm.

“Night Court” will be back in session for a third season, NBC announced on Friday.
The series stars Melissa Rauch in a follow-up to the 1984-1992 original, where she plays the eternally optimistic Abby Stone, who takes on the challenging role previously held by her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone (played by the late Harry Anderson), overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.
Currently ranked as the network’s most-watched and highest-rated comedy series, the second season, executive produced by Rauch, Dan Rubin, Winston Rauch and John Larroquette, has amassed 24 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms to date.
In addition to Rauch, “Night Court” also stars John Larroquette, who reprises his role as former night court district attorney Dan Fielding when Abby asks him to serve as the court’s public defender. Still exceedingly self-confident, Fielding must adjust to a new boss and a new job – defending the downtrodden.

Since 2015, there’s been no need to go on a minibreak to a cultural European destination. Richard Ayoade and Joe Lycett have gone for us. They’ve waited at airport security lines displaying their miniature toothpaste tube in a clear plastic bag. They’ve bought mystery crisps from railway vending machines. They’ve been to the museums, tried the local delicacies and gone on the sightseeing tours, so that we could stay luxuriously put.
Indeed, for a good chunk of 2020, staying put was the only option, which is when Travel Man: 48 Hours In…really came into its own. During lockdown, you could spin the globe, choose a location, load up All4 (as it was then known), and have a packed weekend there from the comfort of your sofa. All the experience of short haul travel with none of the having-to-mime-migraine-symptoms-to-a-Hungarian-pharmacist. Bliss!

Just to be clear, Apple TV+’s The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is not a spinoff of Max’s Our Flag Means Death. The two shows do not share the same creative team, nor the same characters. No one involved with either has ever suggested they might in any way be related.
Nevertheless, a viewer might be forgiven for presuming that they could be. Both are cheerfully anachronistic comedies about 18th century Englishmen fleeing conventional society to turn outlaw. Both heroes raise eyebrows in their new milieu for their naivete, their sartorial flair and their distaste for violence. Both nevertheless win the loyalty of a quirky crew who find they quite like this softer version of their bloodthirsty trade.
But if Dick Turpin borrows much from Our Flag Means Death‘s vibe, it shares much less of its earnest substance. This one is silliness all the way down,...

"'Historically accurate' is subjective." Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It's based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it's all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn't. Noel Fielding Talks His New Apple TV+ Comedy Dick Turpin — and If Baking Show Fans Will Get the Joke
Millions of The Great British Baking Show’s fans might not know it, but Noel Fielding is very funny outside the tent, too.
Before taking over as co-host of Netflix’s supremely cozy UK baking competition in 2017, Fielding was best known for starring in The Mighty Boosh, a wildly surreal sitcom that became a cult hit during its 2004-07 run on BBC Three. Now two decades later, Fielding is returning to TV comedy with a new Apple TV+ series, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (premiering this Friday on the streamer), with Fielding playing an easygoing misfit who accidentally...

Coming up on March 1st from AppleTV+ is yet another joyful and whimsical British comedy ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.’ Led by Mr Great British Back-off host Noel Fielding in the titular role and propped up by some of the biggest and best names in British comedy.
The six-episode Apple Original centres on Dick Turpin (Fielding), who sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville).
In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavours, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying...

Bridget Jones is back for a fourth film, and filming will be getting underway in the spring. Renee Zellweger leads the returning cast.
Helen Fielding’s big knicker wearing, perennial singleton Bridget Jones has headlined three feature films so far – 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.
The first film followed Bridget as she struck up a relationship with the smarmy, charming Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, not realising that her perfect match is Mark Darcy. Darcy of course was played, in an inspired piece of casting, by Colin Firth – the pathetic fist fights between the two men stand as highlights of both films.
The second sees Bridget once again taken in by Cleaver’ charms in Thailand, before she ends up in prison. The third film sees Bridget end up pregnant, unsure whether Darcy or Patrick Dempsey’s Jack is the father.

Contains spoilers for Tales of the Tardis, ‘Earthshock’, ‘The Three Doctors’, ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’, ‘The War Games’, ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’, ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’, ‘Survival’ and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
It’s not even November 25th and already we’re looking for Easter Eggs. Then again time has no meaning in a Remembered Tardis, the enigmatic location for Tales of the Tardis. What is Tales of the Tardis? I’m glad you asked. There are no stupid questions here, despite the best efforts of the comments section (I’m joking. Probably). Tales of the Tardis (I should probably put that on my clipboard now) is a new series of Doctor Who stories, edited to omnibus length with no episode breaks and bookended by appearances from characters connected to the stories. We went into more detail about it here.

If you want a trifecta of talent who all come under the banner of ‘weird, but in a great way’, look no further than the team behind A24’s upcoming Showtime series The Curse. It’s created by Nathan Fielder, of Nathan For You, and Benny Safdie, of the Safdie Brothers And on top of that, starring opposite Fielder is Emma Stone, of being Emma Stone fame, whose recent work with Yorgos Lanthimos has been… well, weird, but in a great way. Put them all together, in a show that looks to maximalise the discomfort felt in all of the aforementioned projects, and you get The Curse. It looks weird. But in a really great way. Rather than us try to explain it, watch the trailer here:
The gist seems to be that Fielder and Stone are a couple who have a pretty cushy life, and a seemingly benevolent home improvement show.

In the long history of horror films since the dawn of cinema, it would be hard to imagine any of them quite having the particular impact of 1973’s The Exorcist, which became the first horror film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar along with nine other nominations including Best Actress for Ellen Burstyn. It eventually won two Academy Awards: for William Peter Blatty’s screenplay based on his 1971 novel, and for the bone-chilling sound work. When I saw it as a young kid in its original incarnation at the National Theatre in Westwood (now no longer existing), there were lines like you have never seen wrapping completely around the block. Warner Bros even put a nurse on duty in the lobby for those who passed out — no mere gimmick because it actually happened.

‘Great British Bake Off’ Scraps National-Themed Weeks For New Series After Fans Slam “Casual Racism”
The Great British Bake Off will scrap its national-themed challenge weeks in the new series after viewers slammed these rounds in recent years.
The hit baking show will return later this month for its 13th series, but will be missing the country-themed challenges, which received a backlash for casual racism.
In 2020, the show had a ‘Japan Week’, then a ‘German Week’ the following year, and a ‘Mexican Week’ last year.
Besides the dishes from each country which weren’t sufficiently authentic, Mexican Week saw hosts Noel Fieling and Matt Lucas don sombreros, use maracas and speak in Spanish accents.
Executive producer Kieran Smith told The Guardian newspaper: “We didn’t want to offend anyone but the world has changed and the joke fell flat.
“We’re not doing any national themes this year.”
Instead, Smith said, the show would return to its popular traditional roots. “We’re doing all the regular weeks: Cakes,...

For the first season finale, NBC’s “Night Court” revival treated fans to the all too brief return of a beloved character (and cast member) from the original series: Former bailiff Roz, played of course by Marsha Warfield.
“The Honorable Dan Fielding Part 2” continues from last week’s episode, when Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) accepts a chance to return to his home state of Louisiana to become a judge. In Tuesday’s season finale, he’s presiding over a case involving a fight during a bachelorette party in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It seems the bride got arrested and when she’s hauled into court, it turns out to be Fielding’s old “Night Court” coworker, Roz.
Roz can hardly believe Dan is a judge now and asks to be taken back to jail rather than deal with him. And that’s it. Short and sweet, but surely...

Roz is back! Marsha Warfield, who played the caustic bailiff on “Night Court” for six seasons, made a surprise appearance on Tuesday night’s episode of the series’ 2023 revival.
Warfield’s appearance came on Tuesday during part 2 of the episode “The Honorable Dan Fielding.” In the episode, Dan Fielding (as reprised for the revival by Emmy winner John Larroquette) has taken a job as a judge and is reading what’s next on his docket: “Another fight at a bachelorette party in the French Quarter. Ok bailiff, bring in this bride to be!” Turns out it’s Roz, wearing a “bachelorette” banner. “Fielding? They made you a judge?” she stares at disbelief, and then storms out of the courtroom. This article contains some potential spoiler details from the novel Tom Jones and its TV adaptation.
Tom Jones, Masterpiece PBS’s latest period drama miniseries team-up with historical storytelling powerhouse Mammoth Screen and U.K. network Itvx, is a romantic comedy blended in with sharp commentary on class and morality in mid-18th century Britain. The show is the first television adaptation of the classic novel of the same name by Henry Fielding.
Fielding’s novel tells the story of Tom (Solly McCleod), an illegitimate child of a maid who was adopted by Squire Allworthy (James Fleet). He grows up among the gentry but is constantly reminded of his frowned-upon low origins. Tom also ends up befriending some of the working-class residents nearby as well. His childhood friend Blifil (James Wilbraham) is set to inherit a large estate but eventually, he becomes Tom’s rival as his parents arrange to...

The infamous Watergate scandal has been covered in popular culture quite a few times, but HBO’s take on the whole matter makes the latest installment even more entertaining. Starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as Howard Hunt and Gordon Liddy, respectively, White House Plumbers showcases the break-in attempts that happened at Democratic National Committee H.Q. at the Watergate office. The episode opens with the title card showing that all the characters have the names of the people they’re based on and follows the dramatization of the second break-in attempt of the four total attempts that were made. Before we get into the story, let’s get to know our two protagonists, Howard and Gordon.

Back in the 1980s, John Larroquette dominated Best Comedy Supporting Actor at the Emmys. He won the category four times in a row (1985-88) for playing Dan Fielding on the NBC sitcom “Night Court.” Now, 35 years after his last win for the show and this time in Best Comedy Actor, he’s seeking to join an even more exclusive club of actors who have won five Emmys for playing the same character.
If Larroquette were to claim a fifth Emmy for playing Fielding, he would join three other performers who have also won that amount. Don Knotts won five times in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for his role as Deputy Sherrif Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show” in 1961, 1962, 1963, 1967 and 1968. Ed Asner won three Emmys in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for playing Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and then two for Best Drama Actor for the same character on the spin-off show,...

With the amount of press that NBC is putting behind it and the favorable reviews it’s been receiving, the “Night Court” revival is going to be looking to see if it can replicate the same success the original had at the Emmy Awards. Over the course of its nine-season run from 1984 until 1992, the show amassed 31 Emmy nominations and won seven of them.
Most notably, four of those wins were in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for John Larroquette for playing the scummy and perpetual womanizing prosecutor Dan Fielding. He won the category every year from 1985-1988. After his fourth victory, Larroquette did not submit himself for Emmy consideration for the rest of the show’s run. He will be gunning to get back into the race this year, only this time in Best Comedy Actor as Fielding takes on the lead public defender role. In the reboot, India de Beaufort...

For a textbook sitcom, Night Court Season 1 Episode 9 is practically Shakespearean in its savagely dramatic irony and role reversals.
Guest star Stephnie Weir chews up the scenery as the surgically precise podcast journalist, Remecca, whose plan to expose the dirty secrets of our good-hearted -- if curmudgeonly narcissistic -- public defender nearly succeeds.
But, as in all good Shakespearean plots, the universe is righted whether by act of God or, as in this case, act of Audio Engineer.
There's some subtle fan service snuck in here with the story of Dan's run for city council, tweaking the memory strings of long-time viewers of the O.G. series.
Back on Night Court (1984) Season 1 Episode 7, Dan lost his race to a dead man while Harry fended off the advances but befriended the enchanting recurring Carla B., played by the lovely Rita Taggart.
If Harry were still alive, Remecca would've spun his encounter with Carla B.

Night Court-Pictured: John Larroquette as Dan Fielding — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC) When the revival of Night Court reintroduced the character of Dan Fielding, he was a much different man than when we last saw him on the original show. Older, humbled, and even somewhat broken, the “new” Fielding switched from prosecutor to defense attorney and now serves as an elder statesman of sorts around a cast of much younger characters. John Larroquette, who reprises the role in the revival, told us that showing how the character had changed over time was an important part of his decision to join the show. It takes pressure to create diamonds, and Night Court Season 1 Episode 5 applies it to both Abby and Olivia, revealing facets in the women we haven't seen before.
When confronted by the lawyer who witnessed her most embarrassing moment, Olivia's panic and insecurity do a lot to humanize the tough-talking prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the challenges Abby encounters looking for a new apartment (not helped by Gurgs's non-traditional real estate skills) finally find Judge Pollyanna's tipping point.
Much like the original series, the revival often portrays the courthouse as some sort of bureaucratic biosphere wherein the rule of law is more of a theoretical ideal.
Any people-based system -- and this is probably doubly true of publically underfunded ones -- relies on the exchange of services/favors and thrives on interpersonal connections.
Gurgs is the epitome of courthouse glue. And her expertise is rooted in outside-the-box thinking.
Her strategy of sourcing apartment...

Gurgs is the epitome of courthouse glue. And her expertise is rooted in outside-the-box thinking.
Her strategy of sourcing apartment...

Night Court will remain in session on NBC.
NBC renewed the hit comedy for a second season today.
Although the ratings have dipped from the revival's premiere, they're still pretty impressive.
Night Court stars Melissa Rauch as unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone.
Abby follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding.
Fielding is played by the always-impressive John Larroquette, offering significant laughs that haven't changed since the series' initial run.
In addition to Rauch and Larroquette, Night Court also features India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, and Lacretta.

“Night Court” is going back into session — again. The NBC sitcom, and sequel to the popular ’80s series of the same name, has been renewed for a second season at the network.
The news comes shortly after the series premiered to a surprisingly sizable audience on January 17. The first season has thus far aired four episodes of 13 episodes; the fifth scheduled for February 7.
“It’s so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it’s testament to how broadcast is still a huge driver of communal viewing,” Lisa Katz, president of Scripted Content at NBCUniversal Television, said in a statement on Thursday. “A huge thank you to our studio partners, a wonderful cast, incredibly talented writers and producers, and a crew that has transformed a lower Manhattan courtroom into a true family.”

Situational comedies lean heavily on the absurd at times. Night Court Season 1 Episode 4 is an example where it's best not to ask too many questions about the who, what, and why of any particular context.
On the one hand, the humor of having Dan's first romantic exploit as a widower turn out to be a psychopath's revenge plot deflects a lot of potential emotional angst.
On the other, I don't think we know enough about Olivia and Gurgs to readily accept them as work wives.
One of the hallmark traits of District Attorney Dan Fielding in the 80s was his skirt-chasing, womanizing ways.
He was ridiculous and lascivious and altogether reprehensible. He was also incredibly entertaining, doing much of the comedic heavy-lifting as Larroquette's four Emmy wins can attest to.
So, of course, Dan Fielding Version 2023 has been criticized by some for his more serious and thoughtful (if curmudgeonly) persona.

Night Court — Pictured: John Larroquette as Dan Fielding — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC/Warner Bros. Television) John Larroquette is reprising his best-known role by once again playing Dan Fielding on the newly revived Night Court. He was there for all nine seasons of the show’s original run, and he’s back on the new version in a new capacity — instead of being a prosecutor, Fielding is now a public defender. Of course, he’s now surrounded by a new cast of characters, led by The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch, who spearheaded (and produces) the show’s revival, and he’s enjoying that. But he told us it’s also a bittersweet experience, since he’s lost three of his original co-stars among them — Harry Anderson, Markie Post, and Charles Robinson — within the last five years.
