Kabir Khan’s ’83 recreating the events leading up to India’s victory in the cricket World Cup Series is one of the most talked-about films in recent times. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone who play legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and his wife Romi are hoping to leap one-up on their hat-trick of Bhansali-helmed superhits—Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Coming from the director of Kabul Express, New York, Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, ’83 being the most special film of his career is truly a confession worth underlining.

New Delhi, Dec 21 (Ians) Ever since Ravi Shastri and his support staff took over the reins of the Indian cricket team in August 2014, following India's disappointing loss to England in the Test series, the national team's overseas performance -- in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia, also known as Sena in cricket parlance -- has continued to be unsatisfactory as earlier, despite their 2-1 historic win in Australia in 2018-19.
Together with the two wins on their last tour of Australia, India have won just four of their 19 Tests since August 2014, when the Shastri-headed support staff took charge of the team. Although Anil Kumble was head coach of the team between mid-2016 and mid-2017, India did not tour any of these countries under his stewardship for Test matches.
India's other two wins in the period in the Sena nations have been one in England and one in South Africa.

New Delhi, Dec 19 (Ians) It was a sunny day on June 24, 1974, when India were all out for 42 -- their lowest innings score then in Test cricket -- against England in London, and it was a bright day in Adelaide on December 19, 2020, when India broke that dubious record, pointed out illustrious former spinner Bishan Singh Bedi. He played that match at Lord's over 46 years ago and on Saturday, watched the third day's play of India's first Test against Australia on TV at his Delhi residence.
One difference between the two undesirable 'feats' was that the ball didn't swing at Lord's, but it moved at the Adelaide Oval. Another was that in 1974, one Indian batsman -- Eknath Solkar -- reached double figures, while on Saturday, all players from the visiting team were dismissed for single-digit scores. Solkar was unbeaten on 18 runs off 17 balls (105.88), comprising two boundaries and one six,...

New Delhi, Nov 30 (Ians) Jasprit Bumrah's poor form in ODIs from early this year has continued to chase him in Australia despite his impressive showing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League T20 over the last couple of months.
The right-arm pace bowler has not just failed to pick enough wickets in the ODIs, he has also leaked more runs in the two ODIs in Sydney than he had in his first few one-dayers this year. He has returned figures of one for 73 and one for 79 in the first two one-dayers against Australia in Sydney.
Bumrah, who notched up impressive numbers between 2016 and 2019 with wickets, average and strike rate, suffered a lower back injury in 2019 that forced him to miss most of the second half of last year.
Since returning this January, he has played eight matches, bagged just three wickets -- every wicket...

India were on the verge of winning that Sydney Test in January, 1978, but Toohey was putting up a strong resistance to ensure Aussies don't lose by an innings. New Delhi, Nov 11 (Ians) While fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's form with the ball has been one of the major takeaways for the Indian cricket team from this year's Indian Premier League (Ipl), his real test will come during the Odi series in Australia this month.

But his tally in the ODIs wasn't impressive. In short, in ODIs this year, he hasn't looked as much of a wicket-taker as he was before returning from injury.
The right-arm bowler suffered a back injury last year and did not play a single international in 2019 after the tour of West Indies in August where he had played only the Tests.

Sharjah, Oct 4 (Ians) Eoin Morgan should lead Kolkata Knight Riders instead of Dinesh Karthik in the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2020, believes out-of-favour fast bowler S Sreesanth.
"Genuinely feel Eoin Morgan should lead the side, surely not Dk. World Cup-winning captain should surely lead Ipl side," Sreesanth tweeted after Kkr suffered an 18-run defeat against Delhi Capitals at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in their latest Ipl encounter.
"I hope Kkr looks at this issue and they need a leader who will lead from front like Rohit, Dhoni or Virat, what a player," he added.
On Saturday, Delhi Capitals first posted a monstrous total of 228/4 in their allotted 20 overs and then restricted Kkr to 210/8, thus moving at the top of the points table. On the other hand, Kkr have won two out of the four games they have played so far and are currently placed at the fifth spot.

It was on this very day, 36 years back, that the Indian team had the honour of lifting the coveted World Cup Trophy for the very first time. Overcoming all odds to beat the mighty West Indies in the finals of the showpiece event at the iconic Lord's in 1983 can actually work as the perfect inspiration for Virat Kohli and his boys as they look to win this year's title.
Led by the indomitable Kapil Dev, India got the better of hot favourites West Indies by 43 runs to bag their first crown. Even after being bowled out for a meagre 183, the Indian bowlers led by Madan Lal (3/31) and Mohinder Amarnath (3/12), made light work of the famed Windies batting line-up by dismissing them for just 140 and giving millions back home a moment to cherish till eternity.
