The Summer I Turned Pretty is taking a summer off.
Amazon, during its upfront presentation Tuesday in New York, revealed that the third season of its popular take on Jenny Han’s beloved young adult book trilogy will not air until 2025.
Additionally, Amazon revealed that the third season — formally announced last August — will consist of 11 episodes. That’s up from the previously announced 10 and a high for the show after seasons one and two featured seven and eight installments, respectively.
Season three of Summer was greenlit ahead of both the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year. Production on the new season was delayed until late last year, after both the writers and performers strikes were resolved and the reason for the show’s delayed return. Filming is currently under way. Season one aired in summer 2022, followed by the sophomore run in summer 2023. Han said from the upfronts...

Singer-songwriter The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ has become the first song to pass the 4 billion stream mark on Spotify.
The song passed Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ as the all-time most-streamed song on the service just over a year ago, and it is one of two Weeknd songs in the top 10: his 2016 song ‘Starboy’ is at Number 6, with nearly 2.5 billion streams, reports Variety.
So, what does all of that mean? Between $15.5 million and $17.5 million in royalties for the sound recording, with another $4.5 million or so in publishing, depending on which figures (and which online royalty calculators) one uses. While some services pay more than others and calculations vary widely, Spotify generally pays between $.003 and $.004 per stream.
As per Variety, that’s $20 million-plus for one song on one streaming service (albeit the biggest song on the world’s biggest paid streaming service). Does The Weeknd pocket all that money himself?...

“I had the greatest time being a mommy at home with my kids,” she added, referring to her kids Autumn, 10, Atticus, 8, and Aidan, 2, who she shares with husband Brian Hallisay.
“Learned to be a better baker. Learned it’s okay to take time for myself mentally, physically and emotionally. Did a lot of praying and manifesting,” Jennifer continued. “Belly laughed more than ever. Had the longest cold of my life. Was forced to have more faith than normal. Learned to love working out as a gain for my mental health. Took chances on myself and my bigger dreams.

The world of teen rom-com is a gift that keeps giving and giving, even when we’re not really asking for it. I could say it feels like the genre has become oversaturated, but that would feel like an understatement because of the rate at which Ott platforms keep churning these out. But as I complain, I’m reminded of the comfort that some of these shows provide. While high school dramas can focus on many different subjects, most of the content revolves around teen romance. Specifically, there’s an entire list of shows that involve a very intelligent and organized girl (can’t relate) with multiple (perfectly handsome) love interests. Maybe this is a fantasy of the millennials writing these books (since TV isn’t ever original anymore), the ones who grew up watching shows that emulated the line “If he tugs at your ponytail, he likes you,” or...

When it comes to teen TV, there’s truly nothing that can make or break a show quite like a love triangle. Whether it’s Dawson/Pacey/Joey in Dawson’s Creek, or Conrad/Jeremiah/Belly in The Summer I Turned Pretty, love triangles are popular because they tap into an audience’s desire for competition and community. With two potential love interests to choose from, the act of watching a series becomes a game in itself as viewers place their bets on their choice of ship. And from a pure storytelling perspective, love triangles are an easy way to stir up drama and emotional conflict for the protagonist.

Among the myriad reasons we could call the Criterion Channel the single greatest streaming service is its leveling of cinematic snobbery. Where a new World Cinema Project restoration plays, so too does Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I think about this looking at November’s lineup and being happiest about two new additions: a nine-film Robert Bresson retro including L’argent and The Devil, Probably; and a one-film Hype Williams retro including Belly and only Belly, but bringing as a bonus the direct-to-video Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club. Until recently such curation seemed impossible.
November will also feature a 20-film noir series boasting the obvious and the not. Maybe the single tightest collection is “Women of the West,” with Johnny Guitar and The Beguiled and Rancho Notorious and The Furies only half of it. Lynch/Oz, Irradiated, and My Two Voices make streaming premieres; Drylongso gets a Criterion Edition; and joining...

As the love triangle in the series thickens, viewers are eager to know which side Lola Tung, who portrays the conflicted Isabel “Belly” Conklin, is on.
But if you expect a straightforward answer from Tung, you might be surprised. Not only has the actor made her stance clear, but her consistency in championing her character, Belly, offers a nuanced take on the show’s tangled relationships.
Lola Tung isn’t necessarily Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah
For Tung, it’s a question as old as the love triangle trope: Conrad or Jeremiah? The sibling rivalry in The Summer I Turned Pretty adds an irresistible layer of drama to the story. But when confronted about her character’s romantic affiliations, Tung provided her usual response.

“Summer’s end is around the bend just flyin’” according to the great John E. Prine and Patrick James McLaughlin, whose song “Summer’s End” appeared in Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” covered by Phoebe Bridgers and Maria Taylor. This applies to reality as the seasons and months change, but also to Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which just wrapped its second season on Prime Video. Don’t blink though, because even though Season 3 is delayed due to the ongoing strikes, it will likely be the last one.

Just as music is a big part of The Summer I Turned Pretty, the Amazon Prime Video original series’ star, Lola Tung, used it to get into character. What the actor listened to for a fast way to get into Isabel “Belly” Conklin’s “headspace” and what she looked for in songs.

Kim Petras’s “You Can’t Do Better” might’ve blared through the speakers as Belly sang along on the way to Cousins with her brother Steven (Sean Kaufman), and mother Laurel (Jackie Chung) in the Tsitp premiere episode. However, the track may not have made the cut for season 2 based on Tung’s description of her own Belly playlist that helped her get into character.
“It was a lot of slightly more emotional songs — songs that felt nostalgic,” she told The New York Times.

The talented cast of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" takes us on an emotional journey throughout the eight episodes of season two. The season delves into the aftermath of Susannah's death as the Cousins Beach group rally to save the summer house from being sold by her sister. And while the season excelled in some aspects, like Taylor and Steven's romantic tension, it fell short when it came to sensitively handling how the ripple effects of grief play out in the infamous love triangle between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. There was no shortage of moments to cringe at, including Jeremiah's one-liners and mischievous lip bites or Belly's emotional outburst at Susannah's funeral. But there was one thing that stood out from the other moments, and that was how Belly (Lola Tung) continuously compared her loss and grief to that of Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney), Susannah's sons.

Ironically, one of Steven’s (Sean Kaufman) and Taylor’s (Rain Spencer) first conflicts as a couple revolves around Belly’s (Lola Tung) choice of romantic partners between Conrad (Chris Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno).
The love triangle debate became more contentious during Season 2 after Belly and Conrad had tried being together, but Susannah’s cancer made Conrad push Belly away. Their breakup was painful because Conrad didn’t exactly fight for Belly even though he was the one who initiated the conversation by saying he needed to talk to her. Belly had briefly held Jeremiah’s heart last season before Conrad returned her love, and Jere was very hurt when Belly ended up with Conrad.
Belly’s childhood best friend Taylor has always been more of a fan of Jeremiah. She has nicknamed their ‘ship “Team Jellyfish,” and as soon as Conrad breaks Belly’s heart at prom,...

The second season explores the aftermath of Belly’s decision to choose Jeremiah over Conrad, and the challenges they face as a couple. The show also delves into the past of their parents, revealing secrets that will change everything.
The cast delivers stellar performances, especially Lola Tung as Belly, who portrays her character’s growth and vulnerability with nuance and charm. Belly finally made her choice after nearly exhaustive back and forth between the two brothers. But did she make the right choice?
Opinions on that will differ based on whose team you're on, but one thing abundantly clear from The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 8, is that they know how to hurt us well.
With the summer house fiasco resolved, the fittingly titled Love Triangle had nothing but space to address Belly being torn between two brothers, and by the end of the hour, she seemed content with her decision.
But we all know it's a semicolon, not a period, at the end of this story, and the hour set up things quite well for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.
And if all the chatter and the easter eggs are correct, it will fall in line with the third book, potentially verbatim.
There is so much to unpack here,...

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” has become known for its flashy soundtrack, which accompanies viewers at all moments of the emotional, teenage rollercoaster that viewers board when they start watching. Han has made a point to include as many Taylor Swift songs as possible in this series, but for those who are not Swifties, don’t worry. Only three of the nine total Swift songs used this season made it into this ranking of needle drops. You’re welcome.
For those who think this list will be full of pop, teen bops, look again! There are some oldies but goodies, alternative, folk and rock songs in addition to the bubblegum radio pop that represents coming of age as a teenager.

Though less obvious about it than some other streaming services, Peacock has been churning out some of the best TV of the year. On the heels of Emmy-nominated series “Poker Face” and “Mrs. Davis” comes the return of Craig Robinson’s comedy “Killing It.” The show stars Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty as Craig and Jillian, two underdogs who team up to kill snakes to win prize money, a real thing that happens in Florida as a means of protecting the ecosystem from invasive pythons.
In Season 2, which is now streaming, the pair’s talent for killing snakes leads to the realization of Craig’s dream: owning a saw palmetto farm, which he hopes will give him the means to become a mogul. The comedy, which hails from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, is as endearing as it is biting as it takes on issues of class...

Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) has almost no filter after he catches Belly (Lola Tung) making out with his brother Jeremiah in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 finale.
Conrad knows that Belly has always pined for him, but Season 2 shows that they gave a relationship a shot until it got to be too much for him along with his mother Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) cancer. Belly tried to tell him about her feelings for Jeremiah the night before his biology final, but he had finally fallen asleep from the near-all-nighter they pulled helping him study. Cruising off the feeling that he aced his final and that his mother’s beach house was safe, Conrad walks back to the car to interrupt the heavy make out sesh, initiated by Belly.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for all of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2.] Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty has officially come to an end as Belly (Lola Tung) seemingly made her choice between the Fisher brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). But the finale, “Love Triangle,” was about more than the title of the episode implies as it captured touching moments between Belly and Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) and also continued to further the romance between Belly’s best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) and brother Steven (Sean Kaufman). It followed a cliffhanger ending to Episode 7, which saw Conrad catch Belly and Jeremiah kissing after waiting for him outside of his college finals. Needless to say, the scenario made for an awkward car ride as the trio headed to Belly’s family home in Pennsylvania after their stop at Brown University. (Credit: Prime Video) When a ...

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” actress Lola Tung supports the full circle ending of Season 2 for her character Isabel “Belly” Conklin.
Belly has navigated an emotional rollercoaster — from grieving Susannah and feeling isolated from the boys to confronting Conrad after two fallouts with him and then kissing Jeremiah — to reach the final scene of Season 2. Her now boyfriend, Jeremiah, supports her from the bleachers as she makes her case to her high school volleyball coach to let her back on the team. Once her coach accepts, Belly gets fired up playing the sport she loves surrounded by some of her biggest cheerleaders — including her best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) in addition to Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
“It’s really cool because the first time we see Belly in the present, besides the beginning flashback in episode one, she’s by herself. She’s at school in her own world. And the last time we see her,...

Taylor Swift goes with “The Summer I Turned Pretty” like Belly belongs with one of the Fisher boys. Before the latest episode of the show, which includes a clip of Belly and Jeremiah set to “Delicate,” Taylor Swift only played during moments between Belly and Conrad.
Jenny Han herself has confirmed the special connection between her Prime Video TV show and the songstress’ work. The release date of Season 2 of the show and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) were announced so close together, with the cast wearing a lot of purple (the coded “Speak Now” color of the era). Then “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” debuted in the trailer for Season 2. “August” from “folklore” got a special treatment for the teaser trailer.
With Season 3’s renewal announcement Thursday, the possibilities of which songs will feature next are endless, especially as the strike extends and Swift continues to re-record her masters.

[This story includes spoilers from the season two finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty.]
Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty brought tears, laughter, heartbreak and a whirlwind year for Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah and the rest of the gang. Amid Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) death, a complicated love triangle and strained family relationships, this summer was an emotional rollercoaster not only for the characters, but also for the audience watching.
Creator Jenny Han recently told The Hollywood Reporter that while season one was a “sort of fantasy of summer love,” season two was about learning that “nothing lasts forever” — a harsh reality for all.
In the Prime Video series, based on Han’s book trilogy of the same name, Belly (Lola Tung) is navigating life as a teenager, and young love. The "Riverdale" cast have seen the jokes, but they're not laughing. In an Aug. 15 interview with Vulture, the cast spoke about the rampant meme-ification of "Riverdale," and why the internet just can't seem to take the show seriously. "I think it's important to acknowledge that our show is made fun of a lot," Lili Reinhart said, referencing the clips she said are often "taken out of context" on social media at the actors' expense. "It's really not been easy to feel that you're the butt of a joke."
The general discourse seems to focus on the show's melodramatic script (who could forget the "epic highs and lows of high school football"?) as well as the plot, which strays further from reality with each season. Reinhart, however, made it clear that's all intentional. "When the absurdity of our show became a talking point, it was difficult," Reinhart said. "It is, 'What the f*ck?...

Jackie Chung's real-life relationship status couldn't be more different than that of her character on "The Summer I Turned Pretty." The actor, who portrays divorced author and mother Laurel Park in the Amazon Prime Video series, is happily married to fellow actor Louis Ozawa. Though Chung and Ozawa have kept most details about their romance under wraps, we do know that they met while shooting a New York University graduate short film and have been together for more than a decade. Representatives for the Writers Guild of America resumed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (which represents major studios) on Friday, which is at least a step in the right direction. It may not be in time to save the entire fall programming schedule, but there are several new shows and movies headed to streaming this week to help viewers distract themselves in the meantime!

Kyra Sedgwick crafted a detailed backstory for her character Aunt Julia, who catalyzes the plot for Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Julia is Susannah’s half-sister who inherits the Cousins Beach house after Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) dies between the first and second seasons of the show. To thwart Julia’s sale of the house, Susannah’s son Conrad goes missing. His brother Jeremiah and their joint love interest Belly join in to make the sale a living hell.
“It was good to be somebody who comes in and affects change. That’s a great character to play. Without her there wouldn’t be a plot this season,” Sedgwick told TheWrap over the phone before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “I think she is a formidable antagonist because I think that she feels right and dug into her side. She has a different experience in that house, and I think that to a degree,...

Her death has had very different effects on her best friend Laurel (Jackie Chung), who is also Belly’s mom, and Susannah’s sister Julia (Kyra Sedgwick). “They don’t really speak,” Sedgwick told TV Insider of Julia and Susannah prior to the latter’s death. “It’s a wonderful arc to play because she starts out there and then she ends up in a very different place.” (Credit: Jenny Han via Instagram) By the end of Episode 7, “Love Affair,” Julia has chosen to back out of selling Susannah’...

Life is filled with wins and losses.
And The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 7 had a bit of both, especially depending on which side of this love triangle you may fall on because it seems that, for now, Belly has made her choice.
At the very least, she's made things even more complicated even as we made some progress in the relationships between the trio and got a win with the summer house.
Who knew Laurel would be the secret weapon in the teens managing to keep Susannah's house after all?
This person knew, but that's beside the point.
The hour felt more balanced and blended the elements composing the season better than some previous installments.
One of the strongest aspects of this hour was that it finally knew what to do with Laurel and brought her into the fold in a way that the season desperately needed.
