Spotify has expanded its video podcast tools to virtually all the markets where its service is available, meaning creators in more than 180 regions around the world can now upload video versions of their podcast episodes.
In case you’re not caught up on Spotify’s video ambitions, the tl;dr is: for the past couple years, it’s been setting up the infrastructure to challenge YouTube’s video podcast dominance. It kicked things off by paying a lot—probably too much—to poach Joe Rogan‘s podcast from YouTube, then went on to tap other established YouTubers like Ethan and Hila Klein, Zane Hijazi, and Heath Hussar to either add video content to their existing podcasts, or to create new podcasts with video as a core component.

Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar, the high school friends-turned-famed creator duo who catapulted to superstardom as members of the Vlog Squad, have all but stopped vlogging in recent years.
For Hussar, the tides started changing roughly a year ago, whereas Hijazi says he became disenchanted with vlogging in 2019.
“I used to vlog and pull my camera out all the time,” Hijazi tells Tubefilter, “but I stopped doing that because I felt like it wasn't good enough or people didn’t care what I would have to say, or it's just not crazy enough.”
“And that's why I feel like creators get into this mindset of having to do crazier and crazier things,” Hussar adds -- likely alluding to the mentality that led to various controversies that rocked the Vlog Squad earlier this year. “It gets to the point where you are doing things that are probably not the best.”

The signings arrive, Deadline reports, as UTA’s Emerging Platforms division closed a multi-year ad sales deal for Unfiltered -- which counts 941,000 subscribers on an accompanying YouTube channel -- with podcasting platform Audioboom. Audioboom matches podcasts with advertising agencies and brands for host-read endorsements, dynamically inserted ads, sponsorships, and branded content. It also furnishes distribution and production services.
“Signing with UTA marks the next step in our careers, and we’re excited to continue growing our businesses and pursue new opportunities,” Hijazi and Hussar told Deadline in a statement. “Additionally, we’re thankful to be a part of the Audioboom family alongside so many talented individuals in the audio space.”

Amid an ambitious push into the podcasting space following the acquisitions of Gimlet Media, Anchor, Parcast, and The Ringer, Spotify is looking to bring a visual component to its audio endeavors.
Beginning today, Spotify is launching a global test for 50% of all users that will mark the music streamer's foray into native video podcasting, according to a person familiar with the program. The test will involve the four most recent episodes of a podcast hosted by YouTube stars Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar dubbed Unfiltered, which will now be available as videos within the Spotify app. While a full rollout for video podcasts is imminent, a date has yet to be confirmed.
When the aforementioned episodes are launched -- on iOS, Andrioid, and the Spotify desktop app -- a small tile will appear at the bottom of the screen, which users can then tap to enlarge to watch videos in full.

Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar’s podcast is off to a roaring start.
The two Viners-turned-'Vlog Squad' members launched a joint audio venture dubbed Zane and Heath: Unfiltered last September, and the duo works with podcast network HiStudios on distribution and ad sales. Since the show's debut, HiStudios says that it has sold $600,000 worth of ads in three months against Unfiltered, which is released on traditional podcast platforms as well as YouTube, Business Insider reports.
Hijazi and Hussar told Business Insider that while they haven’t generated much income from YouTube ad revenues on their individual channels, the podcast -- where they share stories about their lives and the inner workings of the Vlog Squad -- has marked something of a windfall. This is partially because marketers -- including partners like HelloFresh, Dollar Shave Club, and Away -- pay good money for host-read ads, and their YouTube content isn't always traditionally brand-friendly.

Zane Hijazi is no stranger to outlandish celebrations to mark his myriad YouTube milestones.
Last year, for instance, to fete the explosive growth of his channel amid 100 videos, the Viner-turned-vlogger hosted an over-the-top photoshoot with his close friends and frequent collaborators -- including fellow YouTube heavyweights David Dobrik, Jason Nash, Gabbie Hanna, and Liza Koshy. He then plastered the group photo on a massive billboard in the heart of Los Angeles.
For his 200th video, which dropped today -- the 24-year-old is up to his same old tricks, with some new surprises in store. The SeatGeek-sponsored clip almost needs to be seen to be believed -- starting with a spoof of the musical Rent inspired by the antics of his 'Vlog Squad' creator posse that quickly transitions into a high-fashion photoshoot taking its cue from Vogue’s annual Met Ball. Vine star-turned-buzzy YouTube vlogger Zane Hijazi recently celebrated the explosive growth of his one-year-old channel in decidedly epic fashion.
Hijazi -- who rose to fame on Vine via the Zane And Heath channel with his best friend Heath Hussar, and who today counts roughly 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube-- commemorated his 100th vlog by renting a massive billboard in the heart of Los Angeles. The somewhat mysterious image on the billboard features no words and showcases Hijazi and a handful of his best friends and collaborators posing in matching black turtlenecks in a family portrait of sorts.
