The Off-Broadway League has announced their choices for the 31st annual Lucille Lortel Awards; coming out on top with six nominations was Stephen Karam’s chilling family drama “The Humans.” In the 18 categories, César Alvarez’s “Futurity,” Rajiv Joseph’s “Guards at the Taj,” and Annie Baker’s “John” also fared well, earning five nominations apiece. The voting committee—made up of academics, journalists, and representatives of the Off-Broadway League, Actors’ Equity Association, Stage Directors & Choreographers Society, and Lucille Lortel Foundation—also recognized such Off-Broadway hits as “The Robber Bridegroom,” “The Legend of Georgia McBride,” and “Preludes.” The 2016 Lucille Lortel Awards ceremony will be held May 1 at the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, with all proceeds going to The Actors Fund.
