Daniel G. Harmann
- Music Department
Daniel G. Harmann moved to the Pacific Northwest from Arizona in the late 90s. He brought with him a guitar, a love for the Seattle music scene, and a collection of songs he'd begun working on that year. That collection of songs would eventually become his first studio release, Failures in Motion. His perspective on love, failure and family came from growing up in a small-football loving-American town in the southwest, and in-arguably shaped his early artworks.
Beginning with his first album, 2001's Failures in Motion, his catalog has stretched across 20 years, 12 studio albums, and nearly as many genres. He's performed and recorded as a solo artist as well as with a full band. His music has been compared to everything from Low and Sun Kill Moon to Fugazi or even Bruce Springsteen. He's written albums ranging from blaring shoe-gazing rock, to bare-bones, acoustic love songs. He's been described as a working-class craftsman of music, a humbling artist in an every-man shell and a sincere voice in a town full of facades. Throughout it all, though, one thing has remained clear-Daniel G. Harmann is a fantastic songwriter and an uncompromising artist.
His metamorphosis from a burgeoning songwriter, to rock & roll front-man, (The Trouble Starts), and now a seasoned artist - capable of both independence and collaboration - has taken Daniel to ever increasingly interesting places over the course of his career.
His lyrics come from a place that only a few songwriters ever find, which, is true vulnerability. Each song is filled with personal history and the gravitas of experience. They embody his unique perspective and show the humility and respect that comes from a career of truly putting the most vulnerable parts of his experience into his art. And with this new album, he does it with more ease and grace than ever.
Most recently, Daniel has been deep in the ambient/instrumental genre - crafting sounds that are both at once cinematic and accessible.
In his years of writing, recording and touring, Daniel has honed his craft. He's recorded with well-respected producers and engineers such as Brandon Eggleston, (Modest Mouse, Mountain Goats, Les Savy Fav) Eric Corson, (The Long Winters) and Matthew Emerson Brown, (Trespassers William, Lucinda Williams, Black Night Crash). He's played shows with artists such as Minus the Bear, Phosphorescent, Low, Pela, Goodness, Firehose, Of Montreal, the Velvet Teen, Travis Morrison (the Dismemberment Plan), Spring Offensive, John Roderick (the Long Winters), Restorations, Rosie Thomas, Star Anna, the Divorce, Boat and many more.
