Featuring segments directed by Mick Garris, Joe Dante, David Slade, Ryûhei Kitamura, and Alejandro Brugués, Nightmare Cinema is now in theaters and on VOD platforms via Good Deed Entertainment, and to celebrate the horror anthology's release, we caught up with Sarah Elizabeth Withers, the star of Brugués' segment, "The Thing in the Woods," to discuss facing off against The Welder killer, taking a unique approach to the slasher sub-genre, and working with Brugués to created a compelling and kick-ass character.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Sarah, and congratulations on Nightmare Cinema! What attracted you to playing the role of Samantha in Alejandro Brugués’ segment, “The Thing in the Woods”?
Sarah Elizabeth Withers: What initially attracted me to the role was the creativity and zeal of the project. Its ’80s nostalgia and campiness were an absolute sell. The short is probably one of the most fun...

I enjoy a good horror anthology series and we’ve got a trailer for a new one coming called Nightmare Cinema, which looks like it will be filled with a lot of creepy fun! This is something that I know I’ll enjoy watching!
The five segments featured in Nightmare Cinema were directed by Mick Garris, Joe Dante, David Slade (30 Days of Night), Ryuhei Kitamura and Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead).
Here’s the synopsis that was shared for it:
A series of down-on-their-luck individuals enter the decrepit and spine-chilling Rialto theater, only to have their deepest and darkest fears brought to life on the silver screen by The Projectionist – a mysterious, ghostly figure who holds the nightmarish futures of all who attend his screenings. By the time our patrons realize the truth, escape is no longer an option. For once the ticket is torn, their fate is sealed at Nightmare Cinema.

"What are we going to do?" "Fight the damn devil!" Cinelou + Cranked Up Films + Good Deed Ent. present a brand new horror anthology feature containing five horrifying short films made by a handful of excellent filmmakers. Nightmare Cinema has a character called "the Projectionist", played by Mickey Rourke, who "preys upon souls" who go to his abandoned cinema "with his collection of disturbing films." Featuring five different segments: The Thing in the Woods directed by Alejandro Brugués, Mirari directed by Joe Dante, Mashit directed by Ryûhei Kitamura, This Way to Egress directed by David Slade, and Dead (along with The Projectionist framing) directed by Mick Garris. The ensemble cast also includes Annabeth Gish, Elizabeth Reaser, Maurice Bernard, Richard Chamberlain, Sarah Elizabeth Withers, and Zarah Mahler. This looks pretty gnarly and brutal, a must see for any and all horror fans out there. Enjoy. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for horror anthology film Nightmare Cinema,...
