Lana Del Rey, she of the country club Chemtrails, has finally discovered “Blue Skies” — at least in the form of songwriter Irving Berlin’s 98-year-old standard.
Of course, since it’s Del Rey, “blue” is a double-entendre, and there’s a sadness in her voice that she can’t quite shake. Where Ella Fitzgerald quivered her voice with a little hope on her rendition and Willie Nelson went full country funk with his, winking his way through every line, Del Rey sounds restrained and distant, as if the blue skies...

Lana Del Rey has reunited with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff for her new cover of Irving Berlin’s 1926 song “Blue Skies.” The track appears on the Antonoff-produced official soundtrack for the new Apple TV+ series The New Look. Stream it below.
The cover follows Florence + The Machine’s version of “White Cliffs of Dover” and The 1975’s rendition of “Now Is the Hour.” The soundtrack also features contributions from Nick Cave, Bartees Strange, Joy Oladokun, beabadoobee, and Antonoff’s own band, Bleachers.
Del Rey and Antonoff have a long collaborative relationship, with the latter just winning a Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical — due in part to his work on Del Rey’s most recent album, Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd? The two also collaborated on Del Rey’s upcoming country album, Lasso.

Lana Del Rey wants some man named Henry to at least try to be a little bit serious. On Thursday morning, the singer and songwriter previewed an unreleased song on Instagram with the caption: “Henry, Come On.” The brief snippet found the singer slipping into the role of a frustrated country/folk singer, crooning: “Do you think I’d really choose it? All of this off and on? Henry come on.”
From the sound of it, Henry lacks both seriousness and accountability. “Baby come on, do you think I’d really lose it on ya?...

Back in 2021, Boom! Studios unveiled the comic book series Brzrkr, based on an original idea by Keanu Reeves, who also wrote the comic book with Matt Kindt. Netflix quickly secured the rights to make both a live-action film adaptation and an anime spin-off series that would “expand the Brzrkr universe by exploring different elements of the story”. It’s been a while since we heard any updates on those projects, but Deadline has broken the news that Reeves has been working with China Miéville to write The Book of Elsewhere, a novel set in the world of Brzrkr.
Random House imprint Del Rey will be publishing The Book of Elsewhere on July 23rd. An audio edition will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio.

How a John Lennon Song Inspired Lana Del Rey’s ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’
Lana Del Rey was inspired by a song John Lennon produced for another rock star. John was a big part of this rock star’s marketing campaign. Del Rey’s tune was also inspired by an interesting place in Long Beach.
Lana Del Rey once listened to many songs by an artist John Lennon produced
John produced Harry Nilsson’s album Pussy Cats. That record includes several covers of popular 1960s songs as well as new compositions by Nilsson, such as “Don’t Forget Me.” The cover of Pussy Cats depicts both Nilsson and John. It’s unusual for a producer to appear on an album cover, but when the producer is a former Beatle, it might be a good idea to advertise his involvement.
Del Rey referenced “Don’t Forget Me” in the lyrics of her song “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.” During a 2023 Interview article,...

John Lennon and Harry Nilsson weren’t just friends: they were collaborators. They made a whole album together that includes a mix of classic cover songs and original compositions. Afterward, John was asked if he was influenced by Nilsson in any way. Regardless of what he said, the album the two made together has endured and still influences modern singers.
John Lennon and Harry Nilsson put their own spin on tracks by Bob Dylan and Bill Haley
John produced Nilsson’s record Pussy Cats. The cover of the record depicts the two rockers as anthropomorphic kittens. Pussy Cats features some new songs, most famously “Don’t Forget Me,” as well as recordings of standards such as Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” Bill Haley & His Comets’ “Rock Around the Clock,” and The Drifters’ “Save the Last Dance for Me.”

While rock isn’t as popular as it used to be, classic rock still influences modern singers. Case in point, Madison Beer revealed one of her songs was inspired by The Beatles’ “Yesterday” during a discussion with Lana Del Rey. Beer also said the Fab Four are one of her main influences. While he was a fan of the song, John Lennon had some negative things to say about “Yesterday.”
Madison Beer’s ‘Spinnin’ was inspired by the lyrics of The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’
In a 2023 article from Interview, Beer and Del Rey interviewed each other. In it, Beer discussed the origin of her song “Spinnin.” “I’ve always loved songs where you don’t know where they’re headed,” he said. “I like to approach songwriting with these weird chord progressions, whatever that means. But for that one, I was lyrically inspired by ‘Yesterday,’ by The Beatles.”

What is a folk festival to do after becoming a global news story? That was the central question for this year’s Newport Folk Festival, which over the past half-decade has drawn increased attention with a slew of surprise guests, world premieres, and special appearances — from Dolly Parton to Chaka Khan, and culminating in last year’s revelatory return of Joni Mitchell after her several-decade absence from the stage.
By the end of this year’s festival, the answer to that question seemed clear: 2023’s Newport was a necessary restart and redirection,...

Lana Del Rey is back. After her 2021 release “Blue Banisters,” finally we have more new music from the singer-songwriter. Her ninth album, titled “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” was released on March 24 and has so far been very well received. The album is acclaimed, as per usual with Del Rey, and it has actually garnered a lot of public attention, with the single “A&W” going viral online. But while most of Del Rey’s albums have been admired by critics and fans alike, her Grammy track record is a bit spotty and she has yet to win. Will that change in 2024?

The six-song EP, which incorporates songs in English and Korean, scored the second-biggest opening week for an album this year with the equivalent of 164,000 sales in the US, according to data by Luminate, reports ‘Variety’.
It follows Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing at a Time’, which broke through with half a million units in mid-March and remains at the top of the Billboard 200 for a fourth week on the chart dated April 8.

Lana Del Rey, 37, is engaged to Range Media Partners’ Evan Winiker, 40, after just a few months of dating.
While the “Summertime Sadness” singer and her fiancé have kept their relationship incredibly private, the pair have been spotted together a handful of times over the past several months, including their September outing at the Malibu Chili Cook-Off festival.
Neither party has confirmed the engagement, but Del Rey first sparked the engagement rumors when she attended the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 1, wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger. The engagement news comes just days after the release of her ninth studio album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

Lana Del Rey is getting ready to walk down the aisle. Del Rey is reportedly engaged to boyfriend Evan Winiker, a managing partner at Range Media, sources told Billboard. The couple have mostly kept their relationship under wraps, though fans have spotted them out and about in California in recent months, according to the outlet. Reps for Del Rey did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment.
Winiker, according to Billboard, works with clients including Max, Daya, Disco Biscuits, Skyler Stonestreet, and Walk Off the Earth. He's also worked as a musician, previously playing with the band Steel Train. And that might be our clue as to how he and Del Rey met; one of Winiker's Steel Train bandmates was Jack Antonoff, a frequent Del Rey collaborator. Lana Del Rey hasn’t had a solo hit single since 2014, and she’s shown far more interest in pursuing her own singular aesthetic vision than in chasing the charts. “It’s not meant to be popular,” she said, flatly, in her first Rolling Stone cover story, right after the release of 2014’s noir-rock classic Ultraviolence. “It’s not pop music.”
Despite all of the evidence that she is, in fact, a brilliant, alt-leaning singer-songwriter, the world keeps categorizing Del Rey as a pop star — perhaps in part because she is,...

Lana Del Rey dropped her ninth studio album on March 24. Called “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.,” it’s produced by Del Rey herself along with Mike Hermosa, Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji. But what do critics think of the 77-minute collection of songs behind that verbose title?
As of this writing “Did You Know” has a MetaCritic score of 80 based on 13 reviews counted thus far: 11 reviews are classified as positive, and two are somewhat mixed, but none are outright negative. That’s a few points above her career average of 76, but it’s on par with her last two releases: “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” (81) and “Blue Banisters” (80). Based on early listens, though, its user score is through the roof, with over 200 fans rating the album with an average of 9.7 out of 10.

Lana Del Rey has left fans perplexed and disturbed by one of the interludes on her new album Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.
The six-time Grammy nominee’s ninth record, released on Friday (24 March), includes “Judah Smith Interlude”, a spoken-word sermon from controversial megachurch pastor Judah Smith.
Soft and ethereal piano instrumentals underlay the nearly five-minute recording, which appears to have been recorded by while Del Rey is in attendance.
Preaching about love, children, marriage and God, Smith warns the congregation against leading a “life dominated by lust”.
“The Spirit of God says, ‘I’ll infuse you with desirеs for what you have and what’s in front of you’.”
Amid Smith’s words, Del Rey can be heard giggling at times and making side comments.
The 44-year-old pastor is famously known for his friendly connections with celebrities, including Justin Bieber. Smith was featured on the popstar’s 2021 EP,...

“I’d go on a seven-minute rant with a repetitive melody,” Lana Del Rey recently told Billie Eilish in an interview about her writing process for Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Indeed, many of the songs on her newly released ninth album do fit that description. They are long and can be repetitive, but truly, a rant has never sounded so alluring.
The six-time Grammy nominee, née Elizabeth Grant, returns this week with her latest album, two years on from a double release in 2021 (Chemtrails Over the Country Club and Blue Banisters). Across eight records and 11 years, Del Rey has built a world and iconography of her own. Hers is one of cherry cola cans, white sundresses, sycamore trees, seedy dive bars and American flags that fly both defiantly and depressingly. More controversial in the Lana lexicon are the deadbeat boyfriends with fast fists that feel like kisses.

Lana Del Rey’s new album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd is out now via Interscope and Polydor Records. Stream it below
First announced last December, the album is Del Rey’s ninth full-length offering, and first since she dropped two records in 2021, Chemtrails Over the Country Club and Blue Banisters. Returning to a sound and vibe more akin to her earlier work — particularly 2019’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! — Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd is another vehicle for the 37-year-old’s signature neo-Americana storytelling.
Produced by Jack Antonoff alongside Mike Hermosa, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji, the album features more collaborations than a typical Del Rey release. Antonoff’s band Bleachers, Father John Misty, Jon Batiste, Tommy Genesis, and celebrity pastor Judah Smith all make appearances.

On Feb. 24, famous American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert released a new album called High Drama. Baz Luhrmann has lifted the curtain on his musical process, recalling one key artist who could have changed his 2013 adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” entirely.
The filmmaker, who recently wrote, produced and directed the glittering musical biopic “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler, opened up about his long-standing love affair with pop music at BAFTA’s Life In Pictures event in London on Friday.
The evening welcomed Luhrmann back to London following his worldwide box office success with “Elvis”, which both honors the rock’n’roll musician’s back catalogue and offers contemporary reworking of songs of the era, such as Doja Cat’s new track “Vegas,” which samples and reworks the 1953 blues song “Hound Dog” by Big Mama Thornton.

The Laurel Canyon songwriting circles of the Sixties and Seventies may be a thing of the past, but Los Angeles remains as connected as ever to its musical roots, with homegrown artists like Billie Eilish, Haim, and Kendrick Lamar carrying the torch for smart, poignant, and progressive music that crosses genres as easily as it crosses county lines.
In her interview with Rolling Stone, Lana Del Rey spoke about the camaraderie of artists she found in her adopted hometown: “There’s a lot more music here,” she says, comparing Los Angeles to New York.
