Pallekele, Sep 4 (Ians) Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj picked three-wicket hauls as Aasif Sheikh and Sompal Kami played gusty knocks to guide Nepal to a competitive total of 230 against India in the Asia Cup Group A match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a two-paced pitch that aided spinners more, Nepal put up a much-improved batting display after being skittled out for 104 against Pakistan last week. Aasif, the wicketkeeper-batter, was brilliant in his 58 off 97 balls, laced with eight fours.
After an hour’s rain interruption, Kami during his 56-ball 48 struck a few shots to take Nepal past 200. Nepal were also aided by some erratic bowling from India, who bowled too many short and back-of-length deliveries.
There was also very sloppy work from India in fielding, leading to three catches being dropped in the first five overs and plenty of misfields happening throughout the innings.

Addressing the media here, he said: "The team that plays good cricket over five days will win. I fully believe if we play good cricket – we have the players, we have the ability – if we take 20 wickets and make runs, we can win this match."
That could be construed as stating the obvious. But he went on to say: "That there’s no hype (about India’s prospects) is a good thing."
An encouraging weather forecast for the World Test Championship final at The Oval in south London – England’s oldest international cricketing venue, where the first Test was held in 1880 – has provided a psychological boost to the Indian team, confronted as they are with the challenge of having to compete at the climax of cricket’s most prestigious championship without the benefit of match practice in English conditions.
It was a wet spring; so, there is the likelihood of residual moisture on the pitch.

It was a wet spring; so, there is the likelihood of residual moisture on the pitch. On the other hand, the recent and anticipated sunshine could dry the track, without quite hardening it to generate disconcerting bounce. Last week in the England versus Ireland test at Lord’s north of the British capital’s River Thames, the wicket eased into a somewhat flat surface from the second day onwards.
India are handicapped by the unavailability of Jasprit Bumrah, Kannaur Lokesh Rahul and Rishabh Pant due to injuries. With pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah absent, Shami will have an important role to play in leading India’s charge with the ball in the Wtc Final. Shami was the leading wicket-taker in Ipl 2023 with 28 scalps, finding success by bowling majorly Test-match lengths.
Against Australia, Shami has picked 40 wickets from 11 Tests at an average of 31.27, with a career-best spell of 6-56. His record of playing Tests in England stands at 38 wickets in 13 games at an average of 40.52, with Shami yet to pick a five-wicket haul in the country.
"Shami impresses me a lot and I love how he keeps running in hard. He does a wonderful job for India. I love that he presents the seam, and releases the ball so well. His wrist and fingers are right behind the ball and you see the seam go all the way down the pitch and he gives the ball a chance to move off the seam.

Kolkata, May 21 (Ians) Lucknow Super Giants (Lsg) held their nerves and survived a Rinku Singh scare to beat Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) by 1 run in an Ipl 2023 at the Eden Gardens and skipper Krunal Pandya was satisfied more than anything as his side booked a spot in the playoffs, saying that they never gave up despite being put under pressure.
Lucknow started the game on Saturday evening on 15 points and needed a win to guarantee qualification, but things looked bleak at one point, both in the first innings with the bat and in the second innings with the ball.
Asked to bat first, Lsg were reeling at 73/5 but were rescued by a stunning half-century from Nicholas Pooran which propelled the side to 176. And then, during the chase, they were under the pump having conceded 61 inside the powerplay. However, Lsg fought hard and eventually emerged victorious in the thriller.
“First reaction is satisfaction.

Hyderabad, May 5 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana stated that his logic behind giving Varun Chakaravarthy the final over, in which nine runs were needed to defend, came from him bowling much better than other spinners like the veteran Sunil Narine.
The pressure was on Chakaravarthy to defend nine runs off the final over with Abdul Samad and Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the crease. After conceding a single and leg-bye on the first two balls, the spinner had Samad mistiming a pull to deep mid-wicket and gave only one run off the last three balls to lead Kolkata to a five-run win.
“I had a doubt if I had to go with spinner/pacer (for the last over). But I just see who is bowling better on the day, whether it’s Sunny (Sunil Narine), Varun or Suyash. Whoever is bowling better, I try to give him the tough overs,...

Lucknow, May 2 (Ians) Josh Hazlewood and Karn Sharma picked two wickets each in a superb bowling performance on a sluggish black soil pitch as Royal Challengers Bangalore defended a modest 126 and beat Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Apart from the duo, Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel took a wicket each to bowl out Bangalore for 108 in 19.5 overs as Lucknow’s batters didn’t show any application and patience for stitching partnerships to chase down a small total.

Lucknow, May 1 (Ians) Stellar efforts from fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq and the leg-spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra helped Lucknow Super Giants restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to a modest 126/9 in 20 overs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a challenging black soil pitch, Bangalore began their innings well by not losing wickets in the Power-play. But as the innings progressed, they kept losing wickets as Naveen picked 3-30 while Bishnoi and Mishra had identical figures of 2-21 to tie down Bangalore.
Barring a 44 from captain Faf du Plessis, Bangalore’s batters weren’t given any breathing space to break the shackles and could only hit eight boundaries in their innings, the lowest by any team in Ipl 2023 till now.
On the first ball of the innings, Krunal Pandya got a turn and bounce, showing signs of what would come in the game.

On a pitch with some amount of grass cover, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami found seam movement to run through the New Zealand top and middle-order, reducing them to 15/5 at one stage.

Considered one of the greatest and most influential Indian films of all time (just a glance at the wikipedia page about the film is enough) “Sholay” is a true masala film, a true epic, and a truly impressive production that has stood the test of time even now, almost 50 years after its initial release.
The film begins with Thakur, a police inspector, tasking a man with finding two small-time crooks, Jai and Veeru, who had helped him in the past, proving both their fighting abilities and their integrity. The focus switches on the two and their time in prison and their escape, until the three protagonists are finally united in Thakur’s village in Ramgarh. The now retired inspector asks them to capture a notorious dacoit named Gabbar Singh, who has been terrorizing the area for years, promising them an additional reward of ₹20,000, on top of the ₹50,000 of the bounty for his head.
