In the vast cosmos of fandoms, Marvel and DC stand miles apart despite both sharing several similarities. Yet, fans of the two are often embroiled in clashes and rivalries, arguing over a plethora of things and blasting each other off. However, one particular figure, Zack Snyder, has often united the two fandoms. Not because of his talent and work but because fans love to hate the ingenious filmmaker for his feat in the DC universe.

But disrupting this harmony of hate is the X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo, who recently showed his unabashed admiration for Zack Snyder.

Zack Snyder’s early films proved him to be an interesting visionary who had a distinct style to his works. Grand visuals, the application of slow-mo sequences, and colorful imagery have been the main strengths and trademarks of a Snyder film. However, audiences have been divisive about his big screen DC films in the 2010s.
Zack Snyder’s DC tenure started with 2013’s Man of Steel
Considering the hit-or-miss nature of Snyder with audiences, the 2020s saw a big change in the director and where he puts his films. Starting from Army of the Dead, his films have only premiered on Netflix. This sudden downgrade from making big-budget studio films for the big screen to just releasing streaming films is surprising but a new report sheds light on how films are greenlit nowadays.

The Mask played a massive role in establishing Cameron Diaz as one of the biggest Hollywood divas. Diaz was successful in impressing the audiences in her very first outing and flaunted an incredible chemistry with Jim Carrey. However, the 1994 classic’s script was never written for her. The director Chuck Russell’s original choice for the role was Anna Nicole Smith.

The character of Tina Carlyle stands as one of the primary attractions of The Mask. The audience immediately fell in love with Cameron Diaz and she was an instant favorite. Interestingly, the late model Anna Nicole Smith was chosen for the role. However, Smith left the film to work on Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult.

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?
Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

Jim Carrey’s The Mask was, is, and always will be one of the most goated comedy films of all time. Thanks to the lead actor’s undeniable charisma, Stanley Ipkiss found a home in the hearts of all comedy enthusiasts and we are yet to find a character that can kick him out. While Jim Carrey’s performance was undoubtedly exceptional, his chemistry with Cameron Diaz was another reason why we all love The Mask so much.

However, casting Cameron Diaz as the beloved Tina Carlyle was no easy task. The team had to go through many actresses before finally finding what they needed. In fact, they ended up loving Cameron Diaz so much that they even turned the film’s initial script around, just for the sake of the character!

There's nobody in the world who can replicate Jim Carrey's unique on-screen energy and presence. He's the sort of performer where you can't imagine anybody else in any of his roles — is there literally anybody else who could have played Dr. Robotnik in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies? Absolutely not! Could just anybody have made "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" work? Not on your life, buddy! Carrey is a specific type of weirdo that Hollywood seems to be unable to find another one of, and that makes him an invaluable part of many comedic films.
But before Carrey was harassing people while method acting as Andy Kaufman or making disturbing paintings of Donald Trump, he was just another young comedian trying to make a name for himself. And despite his clear and unique talent, he had to start his career at the bottom like everybody else.

"The Mask" remains a fan-favorite Jim Carrey comedy — but it could have been a very different movie. The project started life as an adaptation of an ultra-violent Dark Horse comic book in which the central character unleashes wave after wave of brutality on his enemies. Obviously New Line, the studio behind "The Mask," knew that approach wasn't going to work for their attempt to cross over into mainstream movies with the biggest budget project they'd yet produced. And so, the more sanitized version we all know and love was conceived.
Director Chuck Russell had always envisioned Carrey for the lead role. There was literally no one in Hollywood who could handle the physicality the part demanded. Playing the charming but down-on-his-luck pushover Stanley Ipkiss, Carrey's character would of course transform into the outlandish titular hero, whose dynamic antics were based on Tex Avery cartoons. But casting his love interest, Tina Carlyle,...

Few are as committed to their performances as Jim Carrey. The multi-faceted actor and comedian has proven he's more than the wacky, animated jokester of his early TV and movie career with roles in dramas like "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and biopics like "Man On The Moon." In fact, for the latter he remained in-character throughout filming which, as the behind-the-scenes documentary "Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond" showed, was a little too much commitment for some of the production team. He even arranged for Andy Kaufman and Bob Zmuda's abrasive lounge singer character Tony Clifton to show up at a press conference to start a fight.
Of course, among Jim Carrey Movies, "Man On The Moon," isn't the first thing you think of. That honor usually goes to his '90s comedies, and rightfully so. Movies such as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and "The Mask" are...

Jim Carrey began his entertainment career in the '70s as a stand-up comedian, where he entertained audiences with physical comedy and spot-on impressions of celebrities like Sammy Davis, Jr., and Clint Eastwood. In the 1980s, he landed smaller roles in TV and movies before becoming a regular on the comedy sketch show "In Living Color" in 1990. Carrey quickly proved to be a valuable asset to the show by lampooning pop culture figures like Vanilla Ice and creating a wacky list of recurring characters such as Fire Marshall Bill and Vera De Milo. Despite being part of an ensemble cast that included other heavyweight talents like David Alan Grier, Jamie Foxx, and Keenan and Damon Wayans, Carrey's comedic abilities stood out. "In Living Color" ended in 1994, but Carrey's career was only beginning.
Immediately after "In Living Color," Carrey was tapped to play the lead in a bombastic comedy named "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

It’s official: Top Gun: Maverick is the breakout hit of the summer. Thirty-six years after the original Top Gun soared into theaters, Paramount Pictures has another jet-fueled, box office behemoth on its hands; the legacy sequel has become Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing movie in the United States and Canada, surpassing Titanic. That makes Tom Cruise’s Maverick the new King of the World, we suppose.
Knowing Hollywood, they will learn the exact wrong lessons from Maverick’s success. Instead of realizing that audiences responded to dazzling practical effects and traditional, emotional storytelling executed at a high level with no need for the smirky, ironic detachment that has become en vogue, studio executives will likely zero in on the “legacy sequel with a big star” side of the equation. It’s pretty much inevitable.

1994 was the year that Jim Carrey exploded out of nowhere to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood after Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all did big business at the box office, with the leading man’s rubber-faced shenanigans and penchant for slapstick positioned at the forefront of all three.
It was a hell of way to introduce yourself to the masses, and the following year, Ace Ventura was already back on our screens in sequel When Nature Calls, which earned over twice as much as its predecessor. The second outing may have cemented Carrey’s credentials as a draw, but it also marked the last time he’d reprise one of his signature roles until Dumb and Dumber To almost 20 years later.

Every now and again, a jaw-dropping sale comes along that makes our eyes pop out of our heads like Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask, and today is one of those days.
That’s right, Bioware’s online-centric action-rpg Anthem, which was one of 2019’s biggest releases, is currently on sale for a mere $1.49, and can be snagged from the brick-and-mortar retailer GameStop as part of the store’s September Cyber Weekend. It should be noted that this is for a used version, but if you’re more interested in picking up a brand new physical copy of the title, fear not. For an extra 51 cents, it can be yours. Indeed, that’s an impressive 90 percent saving from its original price of $18! Pretty awesome deal, right?

1994’s The Mask was not just one of the biggest movies of that year, but it also helped launch Jim Carrey into the Hollywood big leagues. As you’d imagine, then, there were plans for more films at the time, but these ultimately stalled. There was a Carrey-less sequel called Son of the Mask in 2005, but no one needs to be reminded of that. All these years later, though, it looks like the Mask is coming back to the big screen. And it might not be just a one-off.

Like how the headgear itself was trapped in a trunk for a thousand years at the beginning of the first movie, The Mask franchise has laid dormant for a long time, but it looks like it’s finally about to awaken. We know Warner Bros. is dusting off the character for a cameo in Space Jam 2, with Jim Carrey likely voicing the part. What’s more, this is probably a test run for a fully-fledged Mask 2, which would bring back Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss in the flesh for a belated sequel.
But would a follow-up to the 1994 original all these years later work? 1994 was the year that Jim Carrey seemingly came out of nowhere to become one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all arriving in theaters within the space of ten months and earning over $700 million at the box office combined. Carrey has since made sequels to two of those breakout hits, but we never got a follow-up to The Mask unless you count 2005’s Son of the Mask, which most people don’t because it was awful.

Jim Carrey has been chatting about the possibility of doing a sequel to The Mask
Jim Carrey is not exactly a stranger to sequels, although they don't seem to excite the actor as much as a brand-new project. Carrey famously returned to his breakout role as pet detective Ace Ventura a year after the original film for its follow up, When Nature Calls, in 1997, and was even coaxed back for a belated sequel to Dumb & Dumber in 2014, but could a sequel to The Mask ever be on the cards? Carrey isn't ruling it out.
In a new interview with Comicbook to promote his upcoming turn as Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Eggman in next month's Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie, Carrey was asked to mull the kind of series of (potentially unfortunate) events that would lure him back to the colorful world of The Mask.

Jim Carrey fans will no doubt have fond memories of 1994’s madcap comedy The Mask, which saw the beloved actor at the height of his fame playing lowly everyman Stanley Ipkiss, who turns into a green-faced live-action cartoon character when he puts on a mystical mask. Now, with superhero flicks the name of the game, it’s possible that the franchise could be relaunched in an exciting way.
We Got This Covered has heard that Warner Bros. is interested in resurrecting the Dark Horse Comics hero for a new big screen outing. What’s more, our sources – the same ones who told us that Bill Murray is returning in Ghostbusters 3 and that another Scream movie is in the works, both of which ended up being right – say that their first choice is to get Carrey back to play Stanley Ipkiss,...

When Jerry Evans was hired to choreograph the blockbuster superhero comedy “The Mask,” which celebrates its 25th anniversary Monday, he was surprised when director Chuck Russell informed him he was secretly making a musical.
“I said, ‘Secretly?” recalled Evans, adding that Russell admitted that “I haven’t told anybody other than you and my producer. We’ll just tell everybody when it’s time, I guess.’ He had a plan. I said ‘Sounds good to me. I love it.”’
And so did audiences and critics in the summer of 1994.
Variety‘s review called the showcase for Jim Carrey’s talents “adroitly directed, viscerally and visually dynamic and just plain fun.”
Based on the popular Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, “The Mask” turned Carrey into a superstar as the sweet, nebbish, cartoon-loving loan officer Stanley Ipkiss who turns into a green-faced human cartoon when he dons a magical mask he found.

Jim Carrey fans will remember the 1994 madcap comedy The Mask, which starred the actor at the height of his powers as lowly everyman Stanley Ipkiss, who turns into a green-faced live-action cartoon character when he dons a mystical mask. It was a huge hit at the time, but what’s not widely known is that the film was a loose adaptation of a Dark Horse Comics series.
The Mask franchise has been dormant on screen ever since 2005’s belated sequel Son of the Mask, starring Jamie Kennedy in place of Carrey, flopped hard, but it seems that it might be making a return in the near future and will go in a fresh new direction. Creator Mike Richardson revealed to Forbes recently that he has an actress in mind to star in a female-led reboot, teasing:

Halloween 2016 / Dallas, TX A photo posted by @adele on Nov 1, 2016 at 4:03pm Pdt Adele "Master of Disguise" Adkins is officially a Halloween pro. The "Send My Love (to Your New Lover)" singer got pumped up for her Dallas concert at American Airlines Center on Tuesday by dressing up as Jim Carrey's character in the 1994 classic comedy The Mask, and it's definitely one of the best celebrity costumes of 2016. Adele shared photos of her insane transformation on Instagram, which show her looking totally unrecognizable while sporting Stanley Ipkiss's zoot suit, face paint, and elaborate facial prosthetics to nail the character's signature cleft chin. Of course, her attempt didn't go unnoticed. On Wednesday, Jim tweeted a photo of himself dressed up as one of her roadies, writing, "Hi @Adele. It's Jim from the other side. Weird coincidence, I dressed up as one of your roadies for Halloween. I absolutely love you.

From Men In Black to Free Willy and Jumanji, here's how these '90s movie properties ended up as Saturday morning cartoons.
As wise old Yogurt tells the heroes in Spaceballs, the money is really made in the merchandising of a movie, parodying the revolutionary drive for tie-in products and media that followed George Lucas' savvy handling of Star Wars. Yogurt's prophecy fulfilled itself when the film's writers Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan oversaw a short-lived and underwhelming spin-off, Spaceballs: The Animated Series in 2008.
When the film was originally released in 1987, the writing was already on the wall and one way in which studios could exploit their properties under the banner of an expanded universe was through animated spinoffs aimed at youngsters, with a view to selling toys and cereal based on that property too.
This was especially common with movies released in the 1990s, even...
