Kathryn Newton channeled her inner “Lisa Frankenstein” for a special screening of the film at the Hollywood Athletic Club, donning a dramatic black corseted Vera Wang gown with exaggerated tulle hips.
“There was no other dress option. I have a little heart I took from my last boyfriend,” Newton told Variety on the black carpet, pointing to her blood-red heart-shaped choker and giggling, “Just kidding – I don’t have a boyfriend!”
In the film from Zelda Williams, Newton’s Lisa and a re-animated corpse dubbed “The Creature” (Cole Sprouse) embark on a murderous journey to make him whole by claiming some of his missing body parts from the living. Even though Sprouse doesn’t speak a single word in Diablo Cody’s campy script, communicating only through grunts, Newton says they had no trouble selling their chemistry.
“Have you looked at Cole Sprouse? It’s very easy to have chemistry.

Not too long ago, Netflix was touted as a savior of lost shows. Arrested Development, Lucifer, Designated Survivor, Cobra Kai, Manifest, Top Boy… When a TV network canceled a beloved series too soon, fans looked to the streamer as a potential rescue service. Your favorite TV drama mistreated by its original owner? Let Netflix scoop it up off the streets and rehome it.
Sci-fi and fantasy fans, still smarting from the bad old days of Fox cutting off series in their tracks and messing with episode run-orders, hoped that the home of Stranger Things might also be the home of stranger shows that didn’t fit in elsewhere. British Sff viewers, freshly hurt by the loss of The Fades, In the Flesh and Utopia, wondered if things were finally changing. No more canceled-too-soons? Proper endings all round, yes?

It's a historical meet-cute for the ages. In this Popsugar-exclusive clip from the new historical drama "Chevalier," Joseph Bologne, aka Chevalier de Saint-Georges (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), meets Marie-Josephine de Montalembert (Samara Weaving) at a party held by none other than Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton). Joseph is immediately smitten, but Marie-Josephine is already married.
"Chevalier" is based on the true story of Bologne, the illegitimate son of a French plantation owner and a woman he had enslaved. At a young age, Joseph's father took him from his home in Guadeloupe to France for him to be educated, separating Joseph from his mother. Joseph became an accomplished fencer and violinist, eventually rising to the height of the music world and becoming a friend of Marie-Antoinette. But as a free man in prerevolution France, he faced racism everywhere despite his connections to members of nobility. Eventually, he became a revolutionary himself and was...

Kelvin Harrison Jr. has been on quite the biopic tip of late. For the record, I'm not complaining. Since breaking out in "Waves," Harrison has proven his mettle as one of the most exhilarating young actors working today. Watching him in anything is a total treat because no matter the project, no matter the character, Harrison always brings an exciting, earnest perspective.
After appearing as B.B. King in Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" — and before transforming into the "Radiant Child" himself, Jean-Michel Basquiat, for "Samo Lives" — Harrison is set to star in the classical music biopic, "Chevalier." The film has already garnered fresh interest after debuting a trailer in November, so here's everything you need to know about the forthcoming film and more.

Bologne (Harrison Jr.) rises in French high society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, catching the eye of Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court. However, as the French Revolution mounts, Bologne’s alliance shifts as the Queen’s court deems him a “party trick” and a “pet” playing the violin.
Samara Weaving, Minnie Driver, Marton Csokas, and Alex Fitzalan also star in the Searchlight Pictures film.
“Chevalier” is directed by Stephen Williams, from a script written by Stefani Robinson. Robinson, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and Dianne McGunigle also serve as producers.
Kris Bowers composed the original score, with musical performances produced and arranged by Michael Abels.
Director Williams recalled actor Harrison Jr.

"One day the whole world will know me… and of course the music will be spectacular." Searchlight Pics has revealed the first official trailer for Chevalier, an acclaimed indie drama that already premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last month. It's now schedule to open in theaters in April 2023, which means it might also show up at Sundance. The film stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a "tour de force performance" as real life composer Joseph Bologne, "Chevalier" de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne rises to great heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette and her court. Ouch. This also stars Lucy Boynton as Antoinette, Samara Weaving, Minnie Driver, Marton Csokas, Sian Clifford, Alec Newman, Ronke Adekoluejo, and Alex Fitzalan. This earned some rave reviews at...

TIFF wasn’t kidding when they said they were welcoming director Stephen Williams back after pivoting into prestige television. It’s been 27 years since his theatrical debut Soul Survivor, with a laundry list of all your favorite shows in the meantime.Which just goes to prove that sometimes it’s all about the right project bringing you back into the fold. And it seems a script by rising star Stefani Robinson (coming from FX shows Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows herself) about the first-known classical composer of African ancestry, Joseph Bologne (also known as Chevalier de Saint-Georges), was exactly that. A stirring tribute to a man of many talents, Chevalier gorgeously gives a once-forgotten virtuoso violinist the cinematic treatment.
And what a way to introduce him. We assume the film will reveal the man playing violin onstage to be the titular subject until he turns donning a white complexion.

Chevalier is a biopic about violin virtuoso Joseph Bolonge Chevalier de Saint George directed by Stephen Williams and written by Stefani Robinson.
“Play violin concerto #5!” Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) shouts as he steps on stage, confident in his abilities, ready to compete against the revered Mozart. Bologne shreds that violin to a standing ovation from the French elite. His origin begins when he is bought from the French colony of Guadeloupe and dumped at a high-class boarding school for boys by his White, slave-owning father. The school is supposed to nurture his talent as a violinist and sword fighter. He’s treated like crap during his time at the school but given a chance to prove himself in front of King Louis and Marie Antionette (Lucy Boynton), who bestows him the title of Chevalier de Saint George, which thrust him to the height of high society.

Some may think that Alex Fitzalan is new to the entertainment industry, but that isn’t true. He’s been around for nearly a decade, and he’s been working very hard to get where he is today. Many people will recognize Alex for playing Harry Bingham in The Society’s Netflix series. He also played Seth Novak in the Amazon Prime series The Wilds. His work has shown that he was meant to become a star. Alex’s fans will be happy to know that he is working on a movie called Chevalier, which is set to be released in 2022. Continue reading to

“The Wilds” will be taking off from the runway for Season 3: Prime Video has canceled the popular YA survival series after two seasons, TheWrap has confirmed.
Season 2, which expanded the show’s narrative with the addition of an all-male high school “control group,” premiered on the streamer May 6, delayed by two-and-a-half years as a result of the pandemic.
Despite having premiered a year earlier, the series has drawn comparisons with the Emmy-nominated “Yellowjackets” (which began development and shooting on its pilot around the same time in 2020) for its focus on a group of girls who get stranded following a plane crash. That’s where the two shows’ similarities end: The misfortune the high schoolers in “The Wilds” face stems from a larger conspiracy experiment led by Dawn of Eve founder Gretchen Klein (Rachel Griffiths), who posits that women can run a better society against all obstacles. The girls are...

It's game over for The Wilds.
Deadline reports that Prime Video has canceled the buzzy drama after two seasons.
The series burst onto the screen in 2020, landing a speedy renewal and rave reviews.
As the first YA series on the streaming service, it broke through in a way many shows that followed it did not.
However, the second season premiered in May, failing to reach its predecessor's success.
Season 2 of The Wilds continued to follow the harrowing ordeal of a group of teenage girls stranded on a deserted island, and they didn't end up there by accident - they've secretly been recruited into an elaborate social experiment.
The season ratchets up the drama by revealing that the girls aren't the only ones being studied... there's a new set of subjects, an island of teenage boys, who must also fight for survival under the watchful eye of the experiment's puppet master.

Exclusive: Prime Video’s The Wilds will not return for a third season. I hear the cast and crew of the YA survival drama were just told about the decision, which comes almost three months after Season 2 was released May 6.
The Wilds, one of the last shows developed and produced by the late Jamie Tarses, was an important series for Prime Video and Amazon Studios. It was part of the very first batch of YA pilots ordered by Amazon Studios soon after Jennifer Salke took the reins as part of an expansion in that arena. It was the first YA series to premiere on Prime Video and the first to go to a second season.

For “The Wilds” writers, executive producers and showrunners Sarah Streicher and Amy B. Harris, the island on which a group of teen women — and in Season 2, a control group of adolescent boys — are trapped (as unwilling participants in a twisted sociological experiment) is a metaphor for coming of age, which, Harris told TheWrap, is “very dark for a lot of people.”
“And the idea that you can be seen and that a story that you relate to or feels like it’s a part of what you went through — even if it’s dark — deserves, I think, to be told,” she added.
When the Prime Video show premiered in late 2020, it unraveled a complex survivalist narrative featuring young women in hostile opposition to their surrounding environment, themselves and often each other. They were forced to learn how to hunt, build shelter and make peace with their horrifying newfound situation. Season...

It’s hard to believe that by the Season 1 finale of “The Wilds” two years ago, the eight teenage girls left to fend for themselves on a remote island after a plane crash had only been stranded for three weeks. The Amazon Prime Video series creator Sarah Streicher’s well-written script and excellent casting made this series one of the most talked-about in 2020, and its second season is has been hotly anticipated ever since. Although we’ve seen versions of this premise before, what makes “The Wilds” unique is that it’s clear from the start that what we’re witnessing is an experiment.

“Once upon a time, two plane crashes were staged. All of the victims were dosed and stranded on two islands.”
So begins “The Wilds” Season 2 trailer, confirming the cliffhanger ending of the first Prime Video season, which premiered in December 2020.
The gendered social experiment “The Rise of Eve” led to the discovery of the all-male “control group,” which eerily mirrors the girls’ group, consisting of Sarah Pidgeon, Helena Howard, Mia Healey, Erana James, Sophia Taylor Ali, Shannon Berry, Reign Edwards, and Jenna Clause.
“Brothers and Sisters” alum Rachel Griffiths stars as the mastermind scientist behind the boundary-pushing experiment to create a utopia.
“The Wilds” is created by Sarah Streicher, and Season 2 premieres May 6 on Prime Video. The first trailer for the second season shows that the boys’ group, dubbed “The Fall of Adam,” is now at the center of the “Lord of the Flies”-esque series.

“The Society” will not return for a second season as planned at Netflix, while the streamer is also not moving forward with a second season of “I Am Not Okay With This,” Variety has confirmed.
“I Am Not Okay With This” had been renewed after its first season aired back in February, but its renewal had not been announced. “The Society” had been picked up for a second season last July. The team behind “I Am Not Okay With This” had already begun work on writing a second season.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decisions, both shows were well liked internally at Netflix in addition to the critical acclaim they received upon release, but the plug was pulled on both due to the uncertainty around when they could begin production due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic also leading to added budget increases for health and safety reasons.

Exclusive: Netflix has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for The Society. The Ya drama, whose production was impacted by Covid-19, has been canceled and won’t film a second season. Additionally, Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of another coming-of-age series, I Am Not Okay With This.
While there had been no official renewal, I hear comedy-drama I Am Not Okay With This had been quietly picked up for a second season, scripts were written, and it was fully on track to go into production.
The Society was renewed last summer for a second season, which had been slated to premiere in late 2020. I hear the delayed season had been eyeing potential start of filming next month.

Created by Chris Keyser and starring Kathryn Newton, The Society is described as a modern take on Lord of the Flies.
