The Girl in the Woods is one of the most exciting TV shows of the year.
The series follows a young woman's escape from a mysterious cult-like colony that guards the world from monsters hidden behind a door in the woods.
TV Fanatic got the chance to chat with Sofia Bryant (Tasha), Misha Osherovich (Nolan), Will Yun Lee (Arthur Dean), Reed Diamond (Hosea), and Kylie Lya Page (Sara) about bringing the series to life.
We also talked with Stefanie Scott, who plays Carrie. Stefanie's full interview is at the bottom of the post in video form.
One thing that was evident from the series is that all of the characters get a lot to work with. They feel very well-developed, and the show does not waste a single character.
Reed was ecstatic to work on the show because it had everything his 13-year-old daughter is looking for.
"She's looking for real compelling horror.

"This was your idea from the start!" Vertical Ent. has released a trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled Mark, Mary & Some Other People, directed by actress / filmmaker Hannah Marks. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and is out to watch this November. Newlyweds Mark and Mary reluctantly decide to give ethical non-monogamy a try as their lives get increasingly complicated. "The decision changes things for the couple and opens a lot of personal questions for both as Mary starts to realize she's more traditional than she thought whereas Mark starts to open up and [begins to see] the world differently through Mary and a polyamorous lens." Quite interesting, an perhaps the expected results. Ben Rosenfield and Hayley Law star as Mark and Mary, with a cast including Nik Dodani, Matt Shively, Sofia Bryant, Kelli Berglund, Esther Povitsky, Joe Lo Truglio, and Haley Ramm. Not the first contemporary romance to get into the polyamory game,...

“Mark, Mary & Some Other People” opens with one of the strangest meet cutes in recent memory: Slacker dog-walker Mark (Ben Rosenfield) and brash singer Mary (Hayley Law) reconnect for the first time since college at a convenience store, where the former joins the latter in the bathroom — eventually singing loudly and crazily to boot — while she takes a pregnancy test. That introduction is emblematic of the jaunty weirdness of Hannah Marks’ romantic comedy, which concerns its protagonists’ ensuing decision to attempt an open relationship. Embellishing stock formula with plenty of personality, it’s
With a jokey ’70s mustache and matching curly hair, Mark is a good-natured goof whose self-possessed oddness (exemplified by his collaboration with his father on a “life cup” birth control device that works with saliva) is ideally suited for Mary, a Black rocker with long braids and a dreary day job recording voiceovers for commercials for...

The power imbalance is there from the start: Mark (Ben Rosenfield) goes googly-eyed at the sight of his old college acquaintance Mary (Hayley Law), who is so busy fussing with her own dramas that she can’t quite place the guy at the convenience store who’s staring at her. It’s a re-meet-cute that sets off Hannah Marks’ sophomore directorial outing, “Mark, Mary & Some Other People,” as Mary not only remembers Mark, but soon ensnares him in said dramas, channeling that tricky power imbalance into something like actual intimacy. Ain’t love grand?
In Marks’ world it is, at least for a while. The actress and filmmaker’s first directorial outing, “After Everything,” similarly explored a young couple in the throes of both a big love and a big problem, and Marks’ love stories strike a delicate balance; they are always funny, but never at the cost of actual human empathy.

“The Society” will not return for a second season as planned at Netflix, while the streamer is also not moving forward with a second season of “I Am Not Okay With This,” Variety has confirmed.
“I Am Not Okay With This” had been renewed after its first season aired back in February, but its renewal had not been announced. “The Society” had been picked up for a second season last July. The team behind “I Am Not Okay With This” had already begun work on writing a second season.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decisions, both shows were well liked internally at Netflix in addition to the critical acclaim they received upon release, but the plug was pulled on both due to the uncertainty around when they could begin production due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic also leading to added budget increases for health and safety reasons.

To get to know the cast better, we had Wyatt Oleff, Sophia Lillis, Richard Ellis, and Sofia Bryant play a round of "who's most likely to," where they revealed everything from the person who would make the best reality TV show about their life . . .
. . . to the person most like their character.
Watch it all go down in the full video above, and check out I Am Not Okay With This, available now on Netflix!

After watching Netflix's I Am Not Okay With This, two things are abundantly clear: high school is tough, and we all need a friend like Dina. The coming-of-age drama series (based on the graphic novel of the same name) centers around an angsty teenager named Sydney (Sophia Lillis) who develops superpowers, but it's the ordinary moments in her life - including her various friendships - that are the true focal points of the story.
As Syd grapples with her newfound abilities and secrets, we see rare moments of light whenever she interacts with the bubbly and outgoing Dina (played by Sofia Bryant). "She can be so confident sometimes and so sure of herself," Bryant told Popsugar about her character's "effervescent" energy. "When she's around Syd, especially, you really see it jump out. She almost is Syd's force that gets her out of her shell." Though the girls have very different personalities,...

Leave it to a show about emergent supernatural abilities to be a perfect case study in calibration. “I Am Not Okay With This,” the latest Netflix adaptation of a Charles Forsman graphic novel, finds its protagonist Syd Novak (Sophia Lillis) beset by an unexpected, increasingly inconvenient bout of telekinesis. Rather than use this template for a story that escalates to city-toppling mayhem by the end of its opening season, these seven episodes track the evolution of Syd as a person rather than merely extrapolate the things she can’t control.
Even though Syd is introduced covered in blood, wandering dazed down the middle of the street, “I Am Not Okay With This” finds an effective build-in charting the course to get to that point. After an opening episode that threatens to buckle under some of the oppressive nihilism that often plagues “The End of the F***ing World” (also based on...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “I Am Not Okay With This,” streaming now on Netflix.
A teenage girl, seemingly in shock, walks down a dark, desolate street wearing a dress covered in blood, with police sirens wailing in the background. “Dear Diary,” her voiceover comes in, a few seconds into the walk, “Go f— yourself.”
And so begins Netflix’s seven-episode adaptation of “I Am Not Okay With This,” based on Charles Forsman’s 2017 graphic novel of the same name. If you don’t know anything about the story, such a visceral opening image likely bring thoughts of trauma and tragedy immediately to your mind; if you know other genre projects before this one, Brian De Palma’s 1976 feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie” might also come to mind. Both of those things were intentional for series co-creators Jonathan Entwistle (“The End of the F***ing World...

To be a teenage girl is to be a tight coil of confused rage, a fact that “I Am Not Okay With This” both knows and depends upon. The new Netflix comedy tells the story of Sydney (Sophia Lillis), a seething Pennsylvania teen who first seems to be, as she tells us in a deadpan voiceover dictating the contents of her new diary, “a boring 17 year-old white girl.” But Sydney’s also grappling with a pair of particularly charged friendships, with bubbly Dina (Sofia Bryant) and eccentric Stanley (Wyatt Oleff), and the fact that she’s never quite dealt with the trauma of her father dying by suicide a year earlier. Sydney’s a volcano just waiting for the chance to blow — and when she does, through some sudden supernatural strength that takes her completely by surprise, it’s inevitably a startling catastrophe.

“I’m a boring 17-year-old white girl,” Syd tells us early in Netflix’s new I Am Not Okay With This, before adding, “I’m not special, is what I’m trying to say.”
But a few episodes later, she warns us, and herself: “If I rage, bad things happen.”
Rage is a threat to — and from — many a 17-year-old girl, special or not. It is often the only sane response to the insane and unfair world around them. But the very act of unleashing that rage can also make...

This I Am Not Okay With This review contains no spoilers.
Somewhen between Carrie White, Kitty Pryde and Buffy Summers, adolescent girls and superpowers became a winning combination. All those hormones, all that loneliness and rage, all that feeling like a mutant and being terrified/thrilled by burgeoning sexuality… it’s a metaphor-a-palooza that hasn’t gone unexploited, especially not on screen.
The Craft, Ginger Snaps, Jennifer’s Body and countless others all make the wry point that high school is hell and best friends/parents/quarterbacks can be demons. They also make the more inspiring point that teenage girls - a group doubly disenfranchised by age and gender - have power. Inside them is the strength to fight back, protect others and rain down vengeance on the unworthy,...

Netflix’s I Am Not Okay with This stars It’s Sophia Lillis as an angsty teen who discovers that she has telekinetic powers.
I Am Not Okay with This may sound like a contemporary PSA shown in a mandatory Hr meeting, but it’s actually a teen-aimed Netflix television series adapting a graphic novel from Charles Forsman, the writer behind the comic source material for the streaming giant’s subversive coming-of-age series, The End of the F***ing World.
Sophia Lillis continues to parlay momentum from It and It Chapter Two, starring here as Sydney, a 15-year-old who’s already dealing with a lot of issues – grief over her war casualty father, hormonal crises and a case of body image dysmorphia – when her problems exponentially increase to supernatural levels upon the discovery that she possesses telekinetic powers; the thing is, she can’t quite control said powers,...

Netflix has unleashed the trailer for its latest comedy series aimed at teens and nostalgic adults, and it’s called “I Am Not Okay With This.” Based on a 2017 graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the series comes from the director/executive producer of Netflix cult favorite “The End of the F***ing World,” Jonathan Entwistle, and producers on the streamer’s wildly popular “Stranger Things,” a vibe that “I Am Not Okay With This” is clearly grooving to. And as a kind of superhero origin story set among grade-schoolers coming into puberty, it’s got a John Hughes vibe, also. Check it out below.
Unfolding across seven 30-minute episodes that will drop on February 26, the series stars Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff (also from “It”), Sofia Bryant (“The Good Wife”), and Kathleen Rose Perkins, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong (“Falling Water”), and Richard Ellis (“Veronica Mars”). From Jonathan Entwistle, creator/director of “The End of the F***ing World” and the producers of “Stranger Things” comes new series “I Am Not Okay With This” based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel. “I Am Not Okay With This” is an irreverent origin story, following a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and… mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken from deep within her.
Series Regulars:
Sophia Lillis will play “Sydney.” Sydney is awkward and smart with a dry, witty, sardonic sense of humor. Like many teenagers, she hates high school, doesn’t get along with her mom, and her best friend has a boyfriend she abhors. Though she views herself as painfully average, she is far from it, as she discovers she has telekinetic powers which may prove to be problematic.
Wyatt Oleff will play “Stanley Barber.
