What makes a live service game successful? The constant cosmetics update in Fortnite is one way, while Helldivers 2 won’t ask for all your cash if you want to win, but will make you grind. The success of these kinds of games lingers on several elements, likely the most important is keeping players engaged and offering fair monetization.
Many live-service games have become a standard in the genre, but there are so many that have fallen faster than a Supply Llama in Fortnite with a faulty parachute.

Mircosoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard undoubtedly caused considerable waves in the video gaming industry. However, one of the biggest mysteries has been how exactly Microsoft will handle Call of Duty. The franchise has been one of the most popular ones out there, so much so that some believed Xbox bringing such a massive money-maker on Game Pass would make them lose on profit.
Recently, several rumors have suggested that Microsoft plans to change the Game Pass structure to accommodate Call of Duty’s future addition. While this might increase the price of the subscription service, many in the industry believe it’s a fair move by Microsoft, considering the value Game Pass brings.

If, by chance, you’ve never heard of Australian genre director Sean Byrne, you need to remedy that fact right away. While far from a household name, Byrne directed two of the best horror movies of the last twenty years – The Loved Ones in 2009 and The Devil’s Candy in 2015. The Loved Ones, in particular, is a gem, with star Robin McLeavy’s performance as high school stalker Lola, being one of the most memorable horror baddies in recent memory.
And now, it looks like Byrne is finally directing another film, with Variety revealing that he’s set to direct the horror flick Dangerous Animals, which stars Hassie Harrison (the Yellowstone girl who caused a major bunkhouse feud a few seasons back), Jai Courtney, and Josh Heuston.
Here’s what Variety has to say about the project:

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War was an original story that served as a sequel to Justice League Dark. The film served as the finale to the Dcau, which was then rebooted into the Tomorrow-verse. The film deals with some pretty heavy subject matter, concerning the end of the timeline as we knew it.
A still from Justice League Dark: Apokolips War
Given how dark the film was, screenwriter Ernie Altbacker talked to Sci-Fi Now about what it meant for the studio, and how much free reign the creators were given for the movie, given that it was an original script and an original story that did not have any connection to the comics.

FX's critically-acclaimed historical drama Shogun finished up its 10-episode run last week, and Anna Sawai was universally praised for her performance as the tragic Toda Mariko.
Amid the Emmy-nomination talk, the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star is certain to be inundated with movie offers, and we wouldn't be surprised if she was given a shot at a major superhero role at some point.
Sawai spoke about her career and potential move to Hollywood to THR, revealing that her big break could have come much earlier, but her commitment to her J-Pop band, Faky, meant she was forced to miss her chance to audition for the role of Katana in 2016's Suicide Squad.
“After the training — multiple years of training — you are either lucky and join a group, or debut as a solo singer, or you’re gone,” Sawai explained. “I was like, ‘This is my chance!’ And then...

“You’ve been making women feel bad about themselves since you were invented,” the hip teen Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt) tells the stereotypical Barbie standing before her. “You represent everything wrong with our culture: sexualized capitalism, unrealistic physical ideals.” Stereotypical Barbie is horrified: “No, no, no, you’re describing something stereotypical,” she insists.
Margot Robbie spent much of Barbie proving why the doll she portrayed wasn’t the sexist object that girls like Sasha see. The Aussie actor has a much more difficult task ahead of her if she’s going to do the same thing in her upcoming project Avengelyne. Everything about Avengelyne screams mindless sex and violence—which is why Robbie is the perfect choice. Hold on, let us explain…

WB Animation’s films and shows have always been streets ahead of DC’s live-action offerings. The studio is known for creating shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League, as well as films such as The Dark Knight Returns and others. The studio’s latest offering Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths will be wrapping up the Tomorrowverse.
The studio has gone through several franchises such as the Timmverse, Dcamu, and the latest Tomorrowverse. However, one of the most beloved franchises that explored many characters in the DC roster was the Dcamu which ended with Justice League Dark: Apokalips War. One of the reasons why the latter is beloved by fans is due to the ‘no limitations’ rule that the studio had which gave freedom to the writers to hold no bars. Spoilers ahead.

Weeks after its release, live-service videogame Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has “fallen short” of Warner Bros’ expectations, one executive has said.
After years in development and multiple delays, Rocksteady’s much-anticipated Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League finally emerged on the 2nd February. A multiplayer action game with a cracking pedigree behind it – Rocksteady being the studio behind the Batman: Arkham series – it cast players as DC Comics’ famous anti-heroes, with Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, King Shark and Harley Quinn available to choose from, while dozens of other familiar faces pop up as NPCs.
Reviews have been middling, however, and the game’s slow sales have been confirmed by Warner Bros Discovery’s chief financial officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels. Talking on an earnings call with shareholders (via IGN), Wiedenfalls admitted that Suicide Squad had “fallen short of our expectations,” and added that it was going to be a “tough year...

Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has the ‘DNA’ of the Batman: Arkham series, its senior developer says.
Following several delays, Rocksteady’s superhero game Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is now less than a month away from release. And in the run-up, its product director Darius Sadeghian appears to downplay some of the controversies surrounding the game over the past year or so. Specifically, the live-service elements that have been the source of much online debate – the need for a constant internet connection, for example, or the presence of paid-for battle passes.
Speaking to Play magazine, Sadeghian argued that its Suicide Squad game is “still full of the DNA that infuses the Batman: Arkham series” – a reference, of course, to the studio’s earlier, much-loved action adventures.
As for the live-service stuff, Sadeghian seemed at pains not to use the term itself in the interview, and...

The Wonder Woman game being developed by Monolith Productions might be a live-service title, in line with Warner Bros.’ stated goals.
A job advert for Monolith Productions seems to indicate that the studio’s upcoming Wonder Woman game might be a live-service title.
The advert, which was spotted by Wccftech, is for a ‘Lead Software Engineer, Gameplay’. “As a Gameplay Lead, you will lead the team responsible for core gameplay systems inherent to Monolith’s proprietary engine, including combat, movement, the Nemesis system, and more!” reads the job description.
(Nb. Monolith pioneered the Nemesis system in its 2014 game Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor, which sees some enemies return to dog the player again and again. Warner Bros. then patented the Nemesis system in 2015, as Ryan Lambie discusses in this exploration of the ups and downs of patented game mechanics. But I digress.)
The really interesting part of the job description, however,...

Starz has just announced something that will excite fans of their classic show, Spartacus. They’re bringing us a sequel series titled Spartacus: House of Ashur. It’s a thrilling development, especially for those who’ve been waiting since the last season aired in 2013.
Nick Tarabay is set to return as Ashur, and this time, the story takes an intriguing turn. Imagine Ashur didn’t die in Spartacus: Vengeance and ended up owning the gladiator school of Batiatus. That’s the twist this series will explore, diving into a ‘what if’ scenario about Ashur aiding the Romans and stopping the slave rebellion.
This sequel comes more than a decade after the original series’ conclusion, bringing a fresh angle to the Spartacus saga. Steven S. DeKnight, who brought us the original series and later worked on Marvel’s Daredevil, returns as the showrunner. DeKnight expressed his excitement about crafting this new chapter,...

It’s a well-documented fact that writer/director David Ayer wasn’t happy with the cut of his DC Comics film adaptation Suicide Squad that Warner Bros. released back in 2016, and he and many DC fans are hoping the “Ayer Cut” will someday be sent out into the world. Now, during a conversation with Jon Bernthal on the podcast Real Ones, Ayer has admitted that the experience of working on Suicide Squad “broke” him.
Ayer told Bernthal (as reported by Variety), “Hollywood, I tell people, is like watching someone you love get f*cked by someone you hate. The big one is Suicide Squad. That shit broke me. That handed me my ass. Come right off (the 2014 war movie) Fury, right? I had the town in my hand — could’ve done anything, and I did do anything. And go on this journey with [Suicide Squad]. And the same thing — authentic,...

When it comes to superhero fiction, aside from the rogue gallery of the Trinity, which consists of Supes, Bats, and Spidey, the character Flash boasts the most versatile, well-written, and memorable coterie of villains, occasionally referred to as ‘The Rogues.’ As consideration of a live-action Flash movie started making rounds in the late 80s, a number of classic ‘Rogues’ like Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Trickster, Heatwave, and Mirror Master were considered to play the role of antagonist(s) throughout various drafts under different directors. Back in 2015, when finally a feature entry of the character as a part of the Dceu entered the pre-production stage, it was reported that the movie would adapt the seminal comic storyline Flashpoint. The news excited readers immensely as it presented the chance to see the fan-favorite antagonist Reverse Flash on the silver screen for the first time, as Flash’s arch-enemy is integral to the story,...

Oh come on, you knew it was coming. Despite being a film that made just about every possible misstep they could take, had actually managed to accomplish something very few films do. Because did you know that today’s film actually won an Academy Award? Well that ‘aint the half of it’ as we’ve got gifted rodents, a trailer the world wasn’t supposed to see, and so much licensed music it’ll make your head spin. All on top of a script that was written in just 6 weeks! Today we’re talking about David Ayer’s…or well…maybe we shouldn’t identify it as that since he’s been pretty adamant that this isn’t his cut so…today on DC Revisited we’re covering Warner Brother’s Suicide Squad.

Woe betide anyone who stumbles across the Harley Quinn Valentine’s Day Special without any prior knowledge of the animated TV series, because it’s safe to say they’d be in for something of a shock. Created by DC animation veterans Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and written and exec-produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey, the show specialises in a raunchy, adult-themed and decidedly sweary take on the familiar DC Comics characters, and the Valentine’s Special pushes those limits to even further extremes.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 9 premiere of The Flash on The CW.
The Flash is nearly done fighting crime in Central City — but not before one final villain comes to town.
The CW series’ ninth and final season kicked off Wednesday night with the introduction of some new hurdles for Barry Allen and Team Flash to overcome. The episode begins with Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) getting stuck in a time loop, which exacerbates some of their fears about the passing of time and the lack of control they have over what may or may not happen to them. In order to get out of it, the couple must decide to take on life head on, together — rather than avoiding the problem and each other.
But just when things seem to be settling down again, Barry is faced with yet another bump in the road. Viewers will remember that,...

The following contains spoilers from The Flash‘s final season premiere.
The CW’s The Flash kicked off its farewell run with a time loop episode in which Barry learned not to live the rest of his and Iris’ life according to some spoiler-filled “map book” he had compiled, but to make decisions in the moment. As such, for example, we saw Iris turn down a sweet offer to be gobbled up by CatCo Media and instead declare her intent to expand Central City Citizen Media on her own terms.

The following contains The Flash spoilers.
The Flash Season 9 Episode 1
While The Flash Season 9 premiere was a light-hearted romp of the sort that we haven’t seen on this show in some time, the kick-off to the series’ final run of episodes included more than a few tantalizing hints of what’s to come in the weeks ahead, from new villains to a strange new being—who definitely isn’t Frost—that seems to suddenly be inhabiting the body Caitlin Snow’s body as a result of her trip into her homemade cryochamber.
Although “Wednesday Ever After” introduces former The 100 star Richard Harmon as a new, post-Crisis on Infinite Earths version of Owen Mercer (a.k.a. Captain Boomerang), the episode’s final moments reveal that he’s not working alone and that his literal partner in crime is someone who looks much more familiar—but is likely a whole lot more dangerous.

And you are?” “I’m your worst nightmare, dumbass. Please, you can call me Captain,” he says before showing off his weapons. Barry realizes he’s the new Captain Boomerang and tells him, “It doesn’t matter how many sticks you throw at me. This ends with you in Iron Heights.” But this Boomerang won’t let that happen, explaining, “you’ll probably have to kill me first ...
