The superhero realm is buzzing with the latest news about “Superman: Legacy.” There’s a strong hint that Michael Rooker might join the cast. Famous for his roles in James Gunn’s films, Rooker’s presence in the movie seems almost a given.
Director James Gunn, renowned for his work on “Guardians of the Galaxy,” is steering this new Superman story. He has a history of including Rooker in his projects. Remember Rooker’s Yondu from “Guardians”? He made a cameo in Vol. 3, despite his character’s earlier demise. Their friendship is deep. Gunn once admitted he nearly skipped directing “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” because it didn’t include Rooker.
Now, onto Rooker’s possible role in “Superman: Legacy.” While some fans speculated he might play Pa Kent, insider Jeff Sneider suggests otherwise. Rooker could be General Sam Lane, Lois Lane’s father. If true, this leaves us...

Bhubaneswar, Jan 24 (Ians) Defencing Champions Belgium remained on course for back-to-back titles as they reached the semifinals of the Fih Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 203, prevailing 2-0 over New Zealand in the quarterfinals at the Kalinga Stadium here on Tuesday.
They joined World No.1 Australia in the semifinals and await the winner of the Netherlands and Korea on Wednesday to decide a place in the final.
The Red Lions struck via Tom Boon in the 10th minute and Florent Van Aubel then doubled their lead in the 15th minute. The two strikes in the first two quarters proved enough as they defended stoutly to thwart New Zealand.
The talk before the game was the injury suffered by Alex Hendrickx leaving Belgium without their ace drag-flicker for the rest of the World Cup.
However, star forward Tom Boon allayed some of the worries by scoring the first penalty corner Belgium...

Bhubaneswar, Jan 14 (Ians) Day 2 of the Fih Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 continued to thrill packed crowds in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela as New Zealand, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany earned comfortable victories, as Pools B and C got underway.
New Zealand took on Chile in the first contest of the day in Rourkela. It was the turn of the European giants next as each one of Netherlands, Belgium and Germany faced stiff opposition from Malaysia, Korea and Japan respectively, but stepped up their game in the second halves to register comfortable wins by big margins by full times. Netherlands secured...

Rourkela, Jan 14 (Ians) The New Zealand men’s team opened their campaign in the Fih Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 with a 3-1 win over Chile in a Group C match at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, here on Saturday.

New Zealand are ranked 9th in the World while Chile are 22nd. The Black Sticks would have loved to have won the match by a bigger margin but that was not to be.

Headed our way this winter is the next horror movie from director Charlie Steeds (The Barge People), the Lovecraftian creature feature Freeze from Dark Temple Motion Pictures.
The arctic horror movie won the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival’s Best Film Award 2022, which gives it some legit Lovecraft cred. You can watch the official trailer for Freeze below.
“On a rescue mission to the North Pole to retrieve an old friend and his lost expedition crew, Captain Mortimer gets more than he bargained for when his ship is frozen into the ice sheet and set upon by bloodthirsty fish-creatures. Mortimer and his surviving crew flee the ship, beginning a treacherous journey to find safety in a frozen desolate wilderness.
“Suffering from starvation, frostbite and a slow madness, they find shelter inside a snowy mountain, but are they as safe as they think, or have they entered the heart of the creatures lair.

Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 15
Ever since Superman & Lois launched in 2021, there has been speculation about its specific place in the Arrowverse. Over the last near-decade, fans have become accustomed to the various CW DC TV shows being fairly interconnected. And not just in terms of crossovers, but maintaining their intricate continuity and referencing events on neighboring shows.
But things have always felt a little different in Superman & Lois’ corner of this world, from its more “widescreen” aesthetic, the more serious tone, the recastings of existing DC TV characters, and more. It’s been easy to wave away most of these questions, as Crisis on Infinite Earths dramatically altered DC TV continuity, so when, for example, a new Morgan Edge showed up on Superman & Lois, one wholly unrelated to the version we got on Supergirl a few years ago, it just...

Whose hero is he, anyway?
That’s one of several key questions broached in Tuesday’s season premiere of Superman & Lois (The CW, 8/7c) as the Man of Steel begins to feel the heat from his new U.S. Army liaison. And if you thought General Lane was a thorn in Superman’s side, just wait until you meet Lt. Mitch Anderson (played by Tyler Hoechlin’s former Teen Wolf co-star Ian Bohen).

Big news for Smallville’s top reporter-slash-plumber: Sofia Hasmik has been promoted to the series regular for the upcoming second season of The CW’s Superman & Lois, our sister site Deadline reports.
Hasmik has recurred throughout the show’s first season as Chrissy Beppo, formerly the only staffer at the Smallville Gazette prior to Lois’ arrival at the paper. Initially introduced as Lois’ biggest fan — which, let’s be fair, is still true — Chrissy has since emerged as an admirably intrepid reporter in her own right.

This article contains Superman & Lois spoilers.
There’s no question that Superman & Lois really knows its stuff. The first episode was a genuine love letter to Superman history, and proved once and for all that you can do a faithful, reverent take on the Man of Steel legend without just retreading stuff people have seen a thousand times.
Superman & Lois episode 2 digs a little bit deeper for its lore, but once again pulls tons of terrific deep cuts from both DC Comics and the character’s history in movies and on TV.
Here’s everything we found…
Captain Luthor
Captain Luthor is from a world that was ravaged by an evil Superman (one wearing the black suit that we saw him wear on Elseworlds). Could this mean that this Luthor is from a world similar to Earth-3 in DC Comics, where the people we know as heroes are in fact evil and vice versa?...

Superman & Lois episode 2 gave us a lot more information on our potential bad guy, and it’s quite a doozy. Superman’s Iron Man-esque foe isn’t Lex Luthor, he’s a Luthor from a parallel Earth, by implication stranded on this one by the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. And while Superman & Lois draws a lot from the comics, is this Captain Luthor like another big multiversal Luthor we know from DC Comics as well? Or is he someone entirely different?
The evidence right now points to someone new. Or at least an amalgamation of a few Luthors. And a Lane.
Is Captain Luthor really Alexander Luthor?
There is no shortage of Lex Luthor variants in the comics. There’s the main Dcu Lex, Superman’s top antagonist who periodically turns good, but always reverts to mean. And there are...

Superman & Lois episode 1 was an untraditional Superman story. Its hour-plus runtime does a lot of work introducing the twins Jonathan and Jordan Kent, setting up the rationale for why the family has to move back to Smallville, and generally explaining Superman’s place in the Arrowverse these days.
But throughout it all, Clark keeps having to leave his family to take on a mysterious figure in armor who has been attacking nuclear facilities. This individual speaks Kryptonian, and has been leaving messages for Superman at each of those sites. When they square off, he refers to Supes by his Kryptonian name “Kal-El” and claims that he too is a survivor of a destroyed world. Considering his power levels (armor assisted or not) it’s easy to assume out of the gate that this is...

Superman & Lois Review: A Smallville Return and a Provocative Adversary Do This Arrowverse Hero Good
True story: Despite being a Smallville superfan, I have had zero interest in Superman & Lois since the day it was announced. None. For one, it overlaps with Supergirl’s own run on The CW (which we now know to be ending), and TV’s Girl of Steel has already and liberally borrowed from her cousin’s comic book lore. Plus, this iteration of Clark and Lois comes with, ugh, teenagers.
Well, straight from the Smallville Gazette, here is today’s headline: Superman & Lois works. And oftentimes it is quite wonderful.

"It's just too gray... I'm sitting here and I'm just thinking, when are we going to see Mars?" This lovely, poetic animated short film is worth a watch to bring a smile to your face. The Moon's Not That Great is about an astronaut who embarks on a voyage to the Moon. When she returns, she discovers that everyone on Earth is over the Moon, and only cares about Mars instead. Featuring the voices of Gabby Capili, Jake Sheppard, Claire Epting, Kristin Wetenkamp, Noah Malone, Caleb Fietsam, Sam Lane, Emiliano Aguirre-Medina, Asher Adel, and Dylan Kanner. This film is made by Mathieu Libman, best known for his CalArts short Pinky Toe. The look is reminiscent of the Lord & Miller series "Clone High". I love the ending to this, it's a sweet reminder that no matter what there is always still beauty to appreciate on this little blue planet. Thanks to...

The latest addition to the Arrowverse is Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as Mr. and Mrs. Kent. The Usp of this version of the Clark Kent and Lois Lane story is that it’ll explore the couple’s lives as parents. Specifically, parents to two teenage sons – Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin).
We’ve seen the Kent family united for a masked-up photo before, of course, but this new set pic reveals our first look at Elsass and Garfin in character. Onscreen mom Tulloch shared the snap on Twitter and through an on-set viewfinder, we can see the two young actors gearing up to start shooting. It’s not the clearest look at the pair, but what we can make out of them here fits with what’s previously been revealed about their characters. Next year, the Man of Steel is getting his first TV series in a long time with Superman & Lois, starring the Arrowverse’s Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch. Hoechlin’s been knocking around The CW’s DC universe for four years already, of course, so to somewhat reboot the character for his own project, he’ll be receiving new threads. And, thanks to these latest set photos, we’ve now got our first look at his revamped suit.
Unfortunately, these aren’t the clearest shots, but the snaps from Canadagraphs below do allow us a glimpse at the new costume, even if we can’t make out all the finer details. I tend to find that Bendis’s name attached to a huge company-wide crossover can either be a brilliant thing or a terrible one. Bendis at the top of his game is a joy, he can write some cracking dialogue and great tent pole comics. There is, however, the jobbing Bendis, who is sometimes too overcommitted to really shine on every project he works on. As a rule, if Bendis starts with a sound concept, or has a decent editor who can reign him in, or a combination of those two things, then good things happen. Event Leviathan has the look of good things. Although this is Issue 1 of a six issue ‘thriller’, there have been some stories feeding in from regular DC titles, and a Leviathan Rising one-shot, that set the scene, but they aren’t essential to follow this series.

This year’s Arrowverse crossover should have no problem going down as one of the most exciting in The CW’s superhero universe so far. I mean, not only do we have the debut of Batwoman (as played by Ruby Rose) to look forward to, but Tyler Hoechlin is also set to fly by as Superman, marking the first time that the Man of Steel will be teaming up with the likes of Green Arrow and the Flash.
What’s more, Clark Kent’s iconic love interest, Lois Lane, will also be making her Arrowverse debut. Other members of the Lane family have popped up along the way – in Supergirl season 1, Lois’ sister Lucy was portrayed by Jenna Dewan and her father General Sam Lane (Glenn Morshower) also played a supporting role – but the Daily Planet’s finest reporter has been absent over the past few years.

"What makes you think I can do this?!" In honor of the Annecy Film Festival for animation this week, I'm featuring a few animated short films that are worth watching. This one is titled Spell of the West, made by CalArts student Sam Lane. She made this as her third year film in the Experimental Animation program, and it's a fun film that's really about saving our environment and our planet. This is a super weird short, yet oddly enchanting and mysterious. I dig her visual style and the backdrops are exceptional. The voices could be improved, but considering this is a student short it's quite impressive. Watch when you have a moment. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip. Description from Vimeo: "On an isolated cacti farm, three stressed out birds ask a cowgirl to help put a stop to the elusive Ax-Man." Spell of the West is directed,...

Though Supergirl was initially keen to let its heroine stand on her own two feet, the show has grown in confidence enough over the seasons to feature more and more characters from Superman lore. Not least the Man of Steel himself, as played by Tyler Hoechlin, last seen in season 2. Now it seems that The CW is looking to cast the love of his life as well, Lois Lane.
Omega Underground has unveiled what could be a casting call for the part of the Daily Planet reporter. In particular, they’ve uncovered an audition tape featuring actress Sarah Ceballos (Sector 17) trying her hand at the iconic role. Ou suggest that Lois’ arrival on Supergirl could come at the tail-end of season 3, or perhaps be held back for the beginning of season 4. Either way, though, it looks like she’s definitely about to make her presence felt.
