Surreal. That’s how Misan Harriman describes his first time at the Academy Awards earlier this year. Six years before, his wife had bought him a Fujifilm X100 for his 40th birthday and encouraged him to start taking pictures with it. Then there he was, surrounded by the global industry’s most overachieving, himself an Oscar-nominated director.
He had always loved film, having been raised on ’80s and ’90s cinema like The Lost Boys, Big Trouble in Little China and Stand By Me. He describes Home Alone, of all things, as “more than entertainment for troubled kids like me,” and will share his connection to the classic movie’s study of “trauma response” and the way it, and films like it, saved him. Born in Nigeria in 1977, Harriman was the only Black kid at his British boarding school. “With my kind of neurodiversity, I’m not supposed to be good at anything,...

March is a busy time for YouTube-based advertising, especially in the sports world. As March Madness and Opening Day brought an influx of viewers to basketball and baseball channels, a lesser known sport highlight its own playoff push. The leading video in the Gospel Stats Weekly Brand Report, however, is in a completely different category: It involves YouTube’s favorite engineer and his latest experience.

Competition was high at the Metlife Stadium this week, as a fight between soccer fans broke out during a match between Arsenal and Manchester United.
It’s unknown what or who began the fight but videos circulating online show numerous people getting into physical altercations with one another.
One video shows what looks to be a Manchester United fan pummeling a man down as a third man grabs the punch-thrower from behind and tries to hold him back by biting his left ear. A fourth man joins in on the fight and begins punching the first man before he is pushed off to the side, starting a new fight with someone else. Though that may seem a lot, that was only the first 15 seconds of the nearly two-minute video.

London, July 19 (Ians) Manchester United had a busy day with two new arrivals while striker Marcus Rashford signed a new contract.
Rashford put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him at Old Trafford until the end of June 2028, ending speculation over his future given that his previous contract had just a year to run, reports Xinhua.
The England striker scored 30 goals in all competitions following the arrival of Erik ten Hag as coach, putting an end to a previous difficult spell in which he had struggled for confidence and form.
“I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honor of wearing the shirt,” said Rashford.
“As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone.

Legendary Olympic athlete Michael Johnson has called on sporting brands to support athletes who want to speak out about social change and other issues meaningful to them.
In an impassioned speech, given without notes, at the Cannes Lions international advertising festival, Johnson celebrated the modern era where athletes are more outspoken and pushing back “on the idea that they should just shut up and dribble.”
He praised stars such as LeBron James, Marcus Rashford, Lewis Hamilton, Megan Rapinoe and Naomi Osaka as “athletes pushing back at the status quo and using their voices the way they want to and feel they should.”
As for sporting brands and companies, Johnson said: “Those partnerships — where an athlete decides to partner with a brand that shares their values — can be extremely helpful for an athlete when they make that decision to use their voice if they have that sort of support.”

This post contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of "Ted Lasso."
"Ted Lasso" was adept at delivering the thrills of a sports drama, with the fall and rise of an underground English football team, while also telling a beautiful story about community, mental health, self-improvement, and being open about emotions.
After three seasons, "Ted Lasso" is seemingly, apparently, as far as we know, done and over. After two very strong seasons, the final season was a very mixed bag, with a lack of focus thanks to longer episodes that dragged on, a sermon-of-the-week format that seemed to take away from the joy of earlier seasons, and a misguided football story that was too obsessed with winning — until it wasn't.
This is (kind of) a football show, of course, meaning the characters' careers and stories carry on after the end of the finale. We know Ted Lasso's career at AFC Richmond is over,...

London, May 27 (Ians) Erling Haaland was named the Premier League’s Player of the Season on Saturday, after a record-breaking debut campaign in which he helped Manchester City claim their third straight league title.
The 22-year-old scored 36 goals in 35 games this season, breaking the previous record of 34 for a single Premier League season set by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer in 42-match Premier League campaigns.
Only Dixie Dean, for Everton in 1927/28, has scored more goals across all competitions (63) in a top-flight English season than Haaland’s 52.
The Norwegian is also the first player in the Premier League to score hat-tricks in three successive home matches, and the first Man City player to score a Manchester derby hat-trick since 1970.
Haaland becomes the third successive Man City player, and fourth overall, to claim the accolade, after Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20 and 2021-22, while Ruben Dias took the honour in 2020-21. Vincent Kompany was the first,...

Manchester, May 26 (Ians) Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted it looks like Antony sustained a serious injury during the first half of the 4-1 win over Chelsea, here on Thursday.
United successfully booked a place in next season’s Champions League with a comprehensive victory, but it seems to have come at a cost.
The Brazilian winger was taken off on a stretcher in the 29th minute of the game with an apparent ankle injury following a fair tackle by Trevoh Chalobah and Marcus Rashford came on for Antony.
Not only was Antony in agony after being hurt in a challenge against Chalobah but Luke Shaw was also withdrawn at half-time with an injury, as Tyrell Malacia took his place.
“Everyone has seen him came off. I can tell you it is serious but we have to wait a minimum of 24 hours, then we know probably more about the status of the injury,...

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3, episode 7 "The Strings That Bind Us."
One of the most happy-go-lucky characters on "Ted Lasso" is Sam Obisanya, the AFC Richmond midfielder and Nigerian restaurant owner played by Toheeb Jimoh ("The Power"). Even when a billionaire calls him a "medium talent" and curses him out to his face, Sam is able to take it in stride. However, in "The Strings That Bind Us," Sam's unflappable, cheery demeanor finally cracks when he finds himself and his restaurant on the receiving end of racism and vandalism. It all starts when he gives some polite pushback on social media to the British Home Secretary's anti-refugee stance. Sam is promptly shouted down and told to "Shut up and dribble," a message that vandals graffiti inside his restaurant, too.
In the locker room, Sam explodes at the world's evils, and it's the first time we've really seen...

London, April 28 (Ians) Newcastle United solidified their position for a top-four finish in the Premier League while Tottenham Hotspur staged a comeback to draw 2-2 at home against Manchester United in the latest action in the top-flight English league.
Newcastle registered a convincing 4-1 win away at Everton on Thursday night, which was never in question after Callum Wilson put them ahead in the 28th minute.
Everton’s main issue this season has been a lack of goals, and despite 13 shots at the goal, they failed to find the net until Joelinton and Wilson’s second of the game put Newcastle 3-0 up in the second half, reports Xinhua.
Dwight McNeil’s goal in the 80th minute gave Everton hope, but it only lasted for a minute before Jacob Murphy added Newcastle’s fourth, leaving Everton second from the bottom ahead of Monday’s crucial game away at Leicester City.

Madrid, April 21 (Ians) Six-time UEFA Europa League winners Sevilla roared into the semifinals of the tournament with a 3-0 win at home to Manchester United.
Moroccan international striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored twice on Thursday night as Sevilla sealed a 5-2 aggregate win, which is all the more remarkable due to the fact that they fell 2-0 down in the first half at Old Trafford last week.
The high press favoured by recently arriving Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar was evident in their opening goal, which came after just eight minutes, reports Xinhua.
David de Gea played a dreadful pass out of his penalty area to Harry Maguire as three Sevilla players swarmed around the defender. Erik Lamela won the ball and fed it to En-Nesyri, who scored from 10 metres out.

London, April 14 (Ians) Something has to give in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime when Aston Villa entertain Newcastle United in what promises to be a vital game in the battle for Europe.
Newcastle travel to Villa Park with five wins in their last five matches, while Aston Villa climbed up to sixth last weekend after their fourth consecutive win, as they continue to improve under the guidance of Unai Emery. London, April 13 (Ians) Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has confirmed that England forward Marcus Rashford will miss “a few games” due to a groin injury, but added that he will return before the end of the season.

London, April 10 (Ians) The race for the Premier League title got closer as league leaders Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 away to Liverpool.
The draw reduced Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to six points over Manchester City, who have nine games left to play, while Arsenal have eight, reports Xinhua.
After half an hour, Arsenal looked to be cruising to end a wait of over 10 years for a win at Anfield at halftime when they led through goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, but Mohamed Salah pulled a goal back for Liverpool in the 42nd minute.
Salah then missed a penalty, but Roberto Firmino’s 87th-minute penalty saved a point for Liverpool and further opened up the title race.
Erling Haaland returned to fitness with two goals as Manchester City kept up their challenge with a 4-1 win away to bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Saturday evening.

Madrid, March 17 (Ians) Spanish clubs Real Sociedad and Real Betis were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, leaving Sevilla as the country’s only representative in the tournament.
Real Sociedad hurled everything at Roma to try to overturn their 2-0 defeat in Rome a week ago, but despite 19 shots in the match, they were unable to break down a defense typically well-organized by Jose Mourinho in a 0-0 draw in the Reale Arena.
Roma failed to register a single shot on target in the match, but they were able to defend their first-leg advantage relatively comfortably against a side that has lost steam in the last two months of the competition, a Xinhua report said.
Earlier, Manchester United continued on from their 4-1 first-leg win as they won 1-0 away to Betis thanks to Marcus Rashford’s rasping low shot.

London, March 17 (Ians) England coach Gareth Southgate has made several changes to his squad for their Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Italy and Ukraine later this month.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney is rewarded for an excellent season that has seen him score 17 goals, while Chelsea full backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James are also included after having missed out on last year’s FIFA World Cup due to injury.
However, there is no place for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Coady, Ben White or Callum Wilson, who were all present at the World Cup, while Raheem Sterling misses out through injury, a Xinhua report said.
Toney’s inclusion comes despite facing charges of breaching rules on betting, which could lead to him receiving a lengthy ban, but Southgate backed the powerful striker.
“He’s available for his club. There hasn’t been a trial or a judgement yet, so I don’t know...

Madrid (Spain), March 10 (Ians) Sevilla look as if they could be the only Spanish side in the quarterfinals of the Europa League after the first leg of the round of 16 on Thursday night. The La Liga strugglers gave a boost to under-pressure coach Jorge Sampaoli with a 2-0 home win over Turkey’s Fenerbahce.
An even game tilted Sevilla’s way in the 56th minute thanks to an excellent shot from Joan Jordan, who had come into the game as a second-half substitute, according to news agency Xinhua.
Erik Lamela doubled Sevilla’s lead five minutes from time with a well-placed left-foot shot.
Things were not positive for Spain’s other two sides in the tournament as Real Betis and Real Sociedad both slipped to defeat.
Betis lost 4-1 at a snowy Old Trafford where they matched Manchester United for the first half but were totally outplayed after the break.

Madrid, Feb 22 (Ians) Fc Barcelona travel to Old Trafford on Thursday aiming to keep their European ambitions alive when they take on Manchester United in the second leg of their Europa League tie.
Barca still have options in the tournament after a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last week, despite being under pressure from United for long periods of the match, and Raphinha’s equalizer from a cross that deceived everyone to end up in the net has left the tie in the balance.
However, if Barca want to avoid another painful (and expensive) early exit from Europe, they will have to end Manchester United’s impressive form at Old Trafford, where the English side is unbeaten in its last 17 home matches; the last time United were beaten at home was against Spanish opposition when Real Sociedad beat them 1-0 on September 8th.

London, Jan 7 (Ians) A Marcus Rashford-inspired Manchester United booked their place in the Fa Cup fourth round with a 3-1 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
Rashford was the creator for United’s first two goals before grabbing a well-deserved third late on to seal his side’s progression from a pulsating affair, reports thefa.com.
United had the perfect start after Antony slid home Rashford’s cross after just four minutes only for Conor Coady to level proceedings ten minutes later.
The winger was involved once again as United retook the lead after Coady turned Rashford’s cross into his own net, before the gloss was added with a late penalty.
It had been a nightmare start for the Toffees as they went behind after just four minutes. Rashford cut in from the left after being played through by Anthony Martial, before firing a ball across the face...

England provided a wonderful fightback but missed a crucial chance to take the game into extra time as Harry Kane missed a penalty at fag end of the match.
In the end, Les Bleus’s ability to produce a moment of brilliance out of thin air was the difference and are the first reigning champion to reach the World Cup semi-finals since Brazil in 1998.
England now head back home, but they should do so with their heads held high, having pushed the current world champions the distance in this gripping encounter.
It was a largely equally matched first half, but England began the second with renewed vigour.
England midfielder Jordan Henderson said they gave everything in the match.
"It’s difficult to find the right words. I thought we gave everything. (We were) disappointed to go one-nil down. I thought (our) character to keep going and find an equaliser was good.

New Delhi, Dec 5 (Ians) In the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, defending champions France on Sunday secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Poland in their round of 16 clash at the Al-Thumama Stadium.
Star forward Kylian Mbappe scored a brace of goals in the match to help France set-up a quarter-final clash against England. With goals in the 74th and 91st minutes of the match, Mbappe also moved to the top of the goal scorers list this World Cup with five goals.
Now, former England footballer Sol Campbell believes Mbappe has a solid chance of winning the Golden Boot in FIFA World Cup 2022 if he continues his good form against the Harry Kane-led side in the quarter-final.
“If he keeps on going that way, he has a very good chance of being at the top. He gave assists, scored some goals. So, he is adding a lot to his game.

On Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium, Gareth Southgate’s side went into the half time break leading 2-0, opening the scoring in the 38th minute and adding a second in injury stoppage time of the opening session.
England netted a third one 13 minutes into the second half to take the game away from Aliou Cisse’s side and set up a quarter-final clash with France, which earlier on Sunday defeated Poland 3-1.
England and France have met twice before at the World Cup, both in group games which England won 2-0 en route to the 1966 title and 3-1 in 1982 and thus France will be looking for a positive result when the two meet on Sunday December 10 at Al Bayt Stadium.

Doha (Qatar), Dec 3 (Ians) The second day of matches in the last-16 sees England play Senegal while France play Poland. Here are some things to look out for on Sunday in Qatar.
1. France back and firing on all cylinders
France rested almost their entire first-choice side for their last group match after having already secured their place in the knockout stage, with their big players such as Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann only coming on in the closing minutes as they chased the game against Tunisia.
Coach Didier Deschamps will have his strongest line-up out against Poland on Sunday, with Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud in attack, Griezmann in the hole behind them and Adrien Rabiot in the middle. They should be fresh and they should have few problems in reaching the quarterfinals.
2. Poland need a change of attitude

Doha (Qatar), Dec 3 (Ians) England face Senegal in the FIFA World Cup last 16 on Sunday in Al Bayt, around 50 kilometers from Doha.
Gareth Southgate’s men will go into the match as favourites after scoring nine goals in the group stage.
So far, when England have been good in this World Cup, they have been very good indeed, with a midfield and attack moving the ball at pace and exploiting the speed and mobility of Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford.
However, the USA showed that with tight, energetic marking, they can be stopped, reducing their play to sterile horizontal passing across the back.
Foden and Rashford came into the side against Wales and impressed, with Rashford scoring twice and Foden also finding the target, as well as adding creativity. Southgate now has to decide whether to stick with the duo or bring back Mount and Saka.

Doha (Qatar), Dec 2 (Ians) England defender Harry Maguire believes that taking advantage of set pieces could be vital as his side looks to progress in the World Cup 2022.
England meet Senegal in the last 16 on Sunday after topping Group B with a 6-2 win against Iran, a 3-0 defeat of Wales and a 0-0 draw against the USA.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring against Wales with a thundering free-kick, while England’s second goal against Iran came when Maguire nodded down a corner for Bukayo Saka to fire home.
The big defender was unlucky not to open the scoring in the same game with a header from a corner that hit the woodwork, while England’s best chance against the USA saw Harry Kane nod just wide from another set piece.
“We’ve got a really good record from set plays,” Maguire told the Football Association.

Doha, Nov 30 (Ians) England striker Marcus Rashford explained his special goal celebrations after scoring twice to help England to a 3-0 win over Wales in the World Cup on Tuesday night.
The forward had his hands in an upwards gesture after his goals and was asked about it when he spoke to the press after the final whistle.
“Unfortunately, I lost a friend a couple of days ago after a long battle with cancer. I am pleased to be able to support him. He was a great person who came in my life,” he said, reports Xinhua.
The striker was also asked about England’s reaction after a disappointing 0-0 draw against the United States in their previous game.
“We were a little bit disappointed after the U.S. result. Thought we could’ve played a lot better and it was important to have a good performance the next game.

Doha, Nov 30 (Ians) Wales coach Robert Page insisted he was proud of his players despite a 3-0 defeat to England on Tuesday night, which sent them home from their first World Cup in 64 years with two defeats and a draw.
Wales were never really in the game that England won with two goals from Marcus Rashford and one from Phil Foden to give Page’s men a disappointing end.
“It’s an amazing performance from that group to get here,” Page said, reports Xinhua.
“I told everyone including the staff what an achievement it was to get here and the fans were amazing. We are frustrated that maybe we didn’t do all that we wanted, but we have had a taste of it and we want to experience it again,” said the coach.
Page admitted he was frustrated that England’s quick-fire goals undid his side’s good defensive work from the first half.

The England vs Wales World Cup match had a surprise cameo in the form of Chesney Hawkes.

Doha, Nov 22 (Ians) England coach Gareth Southgate admitted he was a happy man after his side kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 6-2 win against Iran on Monday, but he also insisted they would have to improve if they want to go all of the way in the competition.
England produced an impressive display, full of pace and movement and were rewarded by two goals from Bukayo Saka, along with efforts from Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish.

There is no doubt the Three Lions have one of the best squads in international football, with excellent players — Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford — in every position.
The side led by Kane (29) has all the necessary ingredients to beat all the teams but it will be interesting to see how coach Gareth Southgate utilises these assets in the tournament. The skipper feels England need to believe that they can win that coveted trophy in the Middle East.
"We have to believe we can win it. I look back at England 10, 15 years ago and it was almost [like] we were scared to say we wanted to win it. I think one of the big shifts that we’ve made over the last four or five years with Gareth is not being afraid to say that," Kane told Sky Sports.

London, Nov 10 (Ians) Coach Gareth Southgate on Thursday announced a 26-man England squad for the 2022 football World Cup, including Leicester midfielder James Maddison along with Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.
Both the players have not played for England since 2019, but recent club form has seen them earn a call-up for the FIFA World Cup which begins on November 20 in Qatar.
On including Maddison in the team, Southgate said, “He is playing really well. We think he can give us something slightly different to the attacking players that we’ve got. He’s playing as good as any of the attacking players in this country. He is a little bit different from the others. I think we need that.”
Maddison last played for England in November 2019 while 2020 Wilson’s last international cap came a month before in October 2019.

Madrid, Nov 9 (Ians) A quick look at Group B implies that England should be the clear favourites to breeze through into the last-16 of the FIFA World Cup, and a possible three straight wins will allow Gareth Southgate’s side to gain confidence ahead of the knockout rounds.
However, any England fan will tell you it’s rarely as simple as that, with memories of their struggles in a group comprised of the United States, Algeria and Slovenia in 2010 coming to mind, and a look at other teams in the group also suggests things may not be as straightforward as they seem.
On paper, England have a better squad and record than Wales, the United States and Iran. They qualified for Qatar with no real problems and travel as the European Championship runners-up.
Southgate will build his team around striker and captain Harry Kane, and midfielders Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

Former UK health secretary Matt Hancock will reportedly take part in the new series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, following the likes of Boy George, Seann Walsh and Mike Tindall into the jungle

London, Oct 17 (Ians) Mohamed Salah’s excellent goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday evening to decide a bad-tempered match and end City’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
Salah controlled a long kick from Alisson before turning Joao Cancelo and slotting the ball past Ederson to decide the game as Liverpool built on Wednesday’s 7-1 win away to Rangers in the Champions League.
City coach Pep Guardiola was left furious when Phil Foden’s strike was ruled out for a previous foul by Erling Haaland, while Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp was sent off after losing his cool when his side didn’t get a free-kick in the closing stages, reports Xinhua.
Liverpool came into the game 13 points behind City following their worst start to a season in 10 years, but their defence improved considerably to take vital points that just about keep their title hopes alive.

London, Oct 8 (Ians) Southampton’s defenders will have to steel themselves later on Saturday for their visit to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, because although they know the threat waiting for them, nobody has been able to stop it so far.
Erling Haaland has scored a hat-trick in each of Man City’s last three home games and also netted twice in their Champions League win against Copenhagen in midweek and expect to add to that against a visiting Southampton that conceded 13 goals this season.
Pep Guardiola’s side have netted 29 goals in eight league matches (including six against Manchester United last weekend) and this looks like a match that is not going to end goalless, reports Xinhua. The weekend in the Premier League has plenty of other interesting matches with Arsenal’s home game against Liverpool the standout.
