Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released in 2022, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, it’s no surprise that a Terrifier 3 is right around the corner. In fact, the film is on track to reach theatres this Halloween season, on October 25th. Soon, fans of the Haunted Mansion won't have to take a trip to Disneyland to experience a scary ride. During the Walt Disney Studios Showcase, a presentation at this year's Destination D23, it was revealed that "Haunted Mansion" will soon be coming to home media beginning on October 4.
"Haunted Mansion" is based on the eponymous theme park ride, a staple of Disneyland since 1969. The film, directed by Justin Simien ("Dear White People"), features single mom Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) moving into the haunted Gracey Manor in New Orleans with her son. Soon, they run afoul of the ghosts, such as the Hatbox Ghost (Jared Leto) and the decapitated Madame Leota (Jamie Lee Curtis), now imprisoned in a crystal ball. So, they recruit a team of priests, academics, and psychics to exorcise the Manor.
"Haunted Mansion" coming to home media in October sounds like Disney learning its lesson from releasing the film theatrically in July.

Rosario Dawson reflected on her time filming Disney’s live-action Haunted Mansion on location with Jamie Lee Curtis and the rest of its A-list cast.
“Jamie, you know, me and Tiffany [Haddish] were definitely besides ourselves being around [her],” Dawson told People magazine, adding that starring alongside the Oscar winner was part of “the beauty of” making the project.
Filming on location in New Orleans allowed the cast, which also includes Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jared Leto, Winona Ryder and Hasan Minhaj, to bond throughout production even when they weren’t on set.
“It was really beautiful how [director Justin Simien] kind of brought us together and gave us all crystals, and we were reading the script together and just creating these nice moments,” Dawson continued. “Tiffany would have these house parties where she would be getting her nails and her henna done, and [DeVito] would come over with Jeff [Kurland], our costumer.

Haunted Mansion was launched as a theme park attraction at Disneyland in 1969. Riders get strapped inside “doom buggies” and whisked through a spooky old manor with chills and thrills around every corner. The ride doesn’t end at the last stop, either. A mirror along the exit captures the image of a phantom prankster attaching itself to each visitor. For Disney’s upcoming Haunted Mansion film, director Justin Simien wants to bring that feeling home.
“My number one goal as a filmmaker is to make sure you actually get haunted,” Simien tells Den of Geek magazine. “I was nine when I rode the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, and you couldn’t tell me that dude was not still over my shoulder all around the park.”
The feeling never left, so Simien brought that spirit to pitch meetings.

Tiffany Haddish is back for part two of her famous Groupon tour. After taking her "Girls Trip" costar Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith on a swamp tour back in 2017, this time, the "Haunted Mansion" star fittingly went on a haunted walking tour in Louisiana courtesy of her bargain-assisted tradition. Although she told Entertainment Weekly she wasn't able to recruit any of her castmates this go around.
"None of the cast went with me, but my team, my hair and makeup, my assistant," Haddish said in an interview published on July 12, confirming that she, indeed, did the tour through Groupon. "I do everything on Groupon," she added. This was news to Haddish's costar Jamie Lee Curtis, who repeated the actor's adventure in disbelief: "Tiffany Haddish did a Groupon ghost tour in New Orleans."

Director Justin Simien says his goal is to make Haunted Mansion the film feel like everything came right off Haunted Mansion the ride. In the new two-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, Simien’s cast confirms that’s exactly what he’s accomplished, from the busts down to the wallpaper. Lakeith Stanfield even describes it as really feeling haunted.
“What we wanted to do was preserve the details that fans remembered and expand the universe around them,” explains Simien. “The thing that makes the ride so cool is that the mansion already has a history, and our characters are discovering it.”
Lakeith Stanfield stars as Ben, Tiffany Haddish is Harriet, Owen Wilson is Kent, Danny DeVito is Bruce, and Rosario Dawson is Gabbie. The cast also includes Chase W. Dillion, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota, and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost.

"This house is unhinged!" drawls out Kent, Owen Wilson's priest character, in the latest trailer for "Haunted Mansion," where all kinds of spooky specters have come out to scare and torment. This latest offering from Disney is a remake of the 2003 Eddie Murphy-starrer and is based on the popular theme park attraction of the same name, which aims to thrill and haunt at the same time.
A lot seems to be going down in the newest "Haunted Mansion" trailer — ghosts creep up on the current residents of the mansion and scare the bejeezus out of them, the residents consider teaming up and performing an exorcism, and a myriad of entities hound poor Ben Matthias (Lakeith Stanfield) for some odd reason. The tone of the film retains the humor of the 2003 original but dials it down a bit, as it balances it out with eerie scares that lurk in every corner of the,...
