Camryn Manheim is leaving Law & Order, but you couldn’t have known that by watching the show’s season finale, which aired tonight.
Instead of a farewell, the focus centered on Tony Goldwyn’s Da Baxter, with Manheim’s character, Lt. Kate Dixon, barely featured. There was no indication during the show that she would be leaving.
Manheim joined the show as Lieutenant Kate Dixon in the Season 21 premiere, The Right Thing, though she had portrayed smaller roles in seasons 1, 3, and 4. Dixon is currently the commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad’s 27th Precinct.
Earlier, a statement was issued to Deadline on Manheim’s imminent departure.
“I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order. She is a class act and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter,” shared series creator Dick Wolf in a statement.

Law & Order’s Season 23 finale on Thursday marked Camryn Manheim’s last episode as Lt. Kate Dixon — who won’t be returning next season — but the hour focused on Tony Goldwyn’s Da Baxter amid another high-profile murder investigation.
A famed sports star was killed, and detectives Shaw and Riley set out to find the culprit. Lt. Dixon oversaw the case on the police side, securing a warrant to arrest their main suspect, a stalker named Kyle Taggert who proved to be a valuable witness. It was his footage from that night which revealed Baxter was the intended target.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Law & Order Season 23 Finale “In Harm’s Way.”] Heading into the Law & Order finale, we knew that the NBC drama is about to lose another major character. Earlier this season, the show lost a lawyer, with Sam Waterston leaving, and Tony Goldwyn‘s Baxter coming in to replace Jack McCoy as Da (there’s now an election coming up). Now, the cops will be saying goodbye to their lieutenant, with Camryn Manheim exiting. But how was Kate Dixon written out? Well, she wasn’t. Instead, the focus was very much on the case and Baxter. It looks like the Season 24 premiere will have to reveal what happened to Dixon, much like this season’s did with Cosgrove, following Jeffrey Donovan‘s exit over hiatus. The case involved the murder of a sports star—but video reveals that Baxter was the intended target. He refuses to suspend his campaign, and with...

Law & Order may be returning for Season 24 on NBC, but one of its most familiar faces will be gone.
Camryn Manheim’s three-season run on the procedural will end on May 16 with the Law & Order Season 23 finale.
It’s unclear at this point whether Manheim is walking away from the show of her own volition or if she becomes another casualty of the mass exodus plaguing Dick Wolf’s long-running procedural dramas across the broadcast TV landscape.
Manheim was a large part of the revival’s success and has emerged as a fan favorite in the role of Lt. Kate Dixon.
“I had the most incredible experience being a part of the Law & Order Universe, and more importantly the Wolfpack,” the actress shared in an Instagram statement.
“I’m so thankful for the three wonderful seasons that I spent with this wildly talented cast of merry pranksters.”

We learned in November that Jeffrey Donovan would not be returning for Season 23 of Law & Order and now we know how his character was written off the show.
In Thursday night’s Season 23 premiere, we were introduced to previously announced new series regular Reid Scott as Det. Vincent Riley, who fills the void left by Donovan.
The departure of Donovan’s Frank Cosgrove was explained in a short conversation between Riley and Det. Shaw (Mehcad Brooks). About a third of the way through the episode, titled “Freedom of Expression”, Riley asks Shaw what happened to Cosgrove, Shaw’s last partner, sharing that he knew him previously, calling him a great cop. Shaw replied, “Great cop, just got jammed up,” adding “Being too honest about things people aren’t too honest about these days.”
“Yeah, it is not a great time to have an opinion, is it?” Riley asks.

He has a sort of a redemptive path that Shaw finds out about a little later, which causes for some amicable conflict if you will, but there’s a wonderful relationship that the two characters have.” He continued, “Reid and I have talked about this thoroughly,...

On the docket for the criminally good hit franchise: new faces on the job and at home, plus a major milestone. Law & Order (8/7c) Reid Scott (Veep) is in as Det. Vincent Riley, following Jeffrey Donovan‘s surprise exit last fall. “Luckily, Lt. It's hard to imagine Thursday nights without Law & Order.
Although the series that kicked off the franchise ceased production in 2010, it came back to life with all new episodes during the spring of 2022, and it's been an NBC staple ever since.
Fortunately, we don't have to worry about it going off the air yet; NBC renewed it for a 23rd season in April 2023. Check out everything we know so far about Law & Order Season 23, and be sure to bookmark this page so that you'll always have the most up-to-date info!
Unlike the other two series in the franchise, Law & Order focuses more on plot than character-driven stories, although that has changed somewhat in recent years.

“This is my new way of coercing my showrunners to write things,” Camryn Manheim tells TV Insider while discussing the double dose of Lieutenant Kate Dixon in the Law & Order world this week. “Just say, where’s this? When’s the deaf son [coming in]? And when is Dylan [McDermott, her costar on The Practice and currently in the Dick Wolf Universe on FBI: Most Wanted, guest starring]?” First, on the Og drama on January 5, in “Land of Opportunity,” a homeless migrant is murdered, leading Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) and Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) to a mysterious cover-up at a construction site. Price (Hugh Dancy) and Maroun (Odelya Halevi) push a key witness to testify knowing that speaking out could lead to legal consequences. Then on Svu, in “Jumped In,” Dixon comes in to help when a deaf student is raped; an earlier Law & Order episode showed her signing and she shared she has a deaf son.

Camryn Manheim is trying a new approach to bringing her onscreen wishes to life: talking about them during interviews. Manheim’s currently starring on Law & Order as Lieutenant Kate Dixon — the NBC drama’s return in 2022 for Season 21 brought her back onto the show, in a new role and as a series regular, after guest starring as three different characters in previous episodes. But TV fans, especially ones of ’90s television, probably know her best from her time as lawyer Ellenor Frutt on The Practice (1997-2004). Well, also on that courtroom drama (which came in at #56 on our Best Shows of the ’90s list)? Dylan McDermott, who played lawyer Bobby Donnell — and who starred on Law & Order: Organized Crime as Richard Wheatley until the March 3, 2022 episode. If you’re disappointed that Manheim and McDermott never reunited in a Law & Order crossover, you’re not the only one. Manheim...

After four seasons, Anthony Anderson's time as Detective Bernard has come to a close. The actor reportedly signed on for only one year of NBC's "Law & Order" revival, per Entertainment Tonight, and this upcoming season will see the exit of his fan-favorite character.
In an effort to make the character's exit as seamless as possible, show producers have figured out a way to write Detective Bernard out in a way that doesn't feel too jarring to viewers (although his presence will still inevitably be missed). Showrunner Rick Eid told TVLine exactly how the show plans to handle Anderson's exit, including an acknowledgment in the second episode of season 22.

Law & Order has released the explosive (literally) final trailer for the upcoming season premiere crossover event.
While some footage has been teased, this trailer shows the scope of the case so epic that it unites all three Law & Order shows together for the first time.
The story, titled Gimmie Shelter, has a simple murder case turning into a possible terrorist attack on New York City.
This forces not just the cops but the prosecutors to unite together to stop the coming disaster and make sure the criminals behind it face justice.
While promising plenty of action, it’s seeing the characters of all three Law & Order shows coming together that makes this a massive event for fans.
With just over a week before the premiere hits, this trailer just intensifies the anticipation for the biggest Law & Order event yet.

A procedural crime drama series, the Law & Order TV show revival stars Sam Waterson, Anthony Anderson, Hugh Dancy, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, and Odelya Halevi. Set in New York City, stories follow the police who investigate crimes and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. The characters include District Attorney Jack McCoy (Waterson), Assistant District Attorney Samantha Maroun (Odelya), Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price (Dancy), Lieutenant Kate Dixon (Manheim), Detective Kevin Bernard (Anderson), and Detective Frank Cosgrove (Donovan). Stories are often based on real cases and episodes are split between a criminal investigation and the trial that follows.
