Even though we were promised no major crossover miniseries for at least 18 months after the conclusion of Secret Empire, that doesn’t mean there won’t be other storylines that’ll shake the Marvel Universe to its core. In fact, the House of Ideas fully intends on starting 2018 with a bang, thanks in no small part to Avengers: No Surrender.

Instead, it’ll be told in the pages of Avengers, and will also include the Uncanny Avengers and U.S.Avengers.
From that, you were probably able to deduce that those three unique teams – along with Voyager, “the greatest Avenger you’ve never heard of” – will be joining...

Before we move on to my regularly scheduled column, I have to plug the Kickstarter going for a ComicMix comics collection running through September 15th. It’s got a lot of great talent like Neil Gaiman, Gabby Rivera and Gerard Way. Check it out!
Now that that’s out of the way, let me get back to my hot takes on the comics biz.
Last month I wrote about Spider-Man: Homecoming and how I wish they had more comics the reflected that interpretation of the character. There isn’t really a comic they put out recently that does, but I heard Spidey is kind of close so I picked up the first trade.
Spidey originally hit the stands back December of 2015 at #25 on the sales charts equating to 65,503 copies sold. The idea was to do an out of continuity Spider-Man that went back to basics; Peter Parker is back in high school,...

It’s becoming quite obvious that DC’s going for the slow burn when it comes to unraveling the bigger mysteries surrounding the Rebirth era. Actually, it’s kind of funny the double standard upheld by us as comic book readers because we’ll wait years to see the showdown between the Avengers and Thanos in the movies, but will become impatient waiting to learn the true identity of Mr. Oz. But, in our defense, comparing a storytelling format that offers you two or three installments per year as opposed to several each month is akin to apples and oranges.
Speaking of Mr. Oz, it was revealed not that long ago that he’ll be taking on a greater role in Action Comics beginning in August. From what we can tell, Rob Williams’ two-parter will serve as prelude to “The Oz Effect,” which is set to be penned by a returning Dan Jurgens.
