- In 1946, he designed an observatory for the Dominican Republic to give warning of earthquakes and, in 1951, he conducted seismic tests in Rome to help the Vatican search for the tomb of St. Peter.
- Lived to be 92 years old.
- A Jesuit priest and longtime scholar of seismology.
- Was a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Geographical Society. In the 1960's he also served as president of the New York Academy of Sciences.
