David Leland has sadly passed away.
The theater, film and TV star died at the age of 82 on Christmas Eve (December 24) surrounded by his family, his agency confirmed to Deadline.
He is perhaps best known for writing Personal Services, directed by Terry Jones and starring Julie Waters, and Wish You Were Here, which he also directed.

Rachel Brosnahan is attached to lead a new limited series in the works at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series is currently titled “Lois & Varga” and is based on a short story by Lisa Taddeo. Miriam Battye is adapting the story for the screen, with “Bodies Bodies Bodies” director Halina Reijn attached to helm the pilot.
The official logline states that the show “follows a newly-married couple that moves to a small and vaunted island after inheriting a heavenly parcel of oceanfront property. But once they arrive, they meet Varga, the island’s only stripper and yoga teacher, who begins to sinisterly unravel their lives.
Brosnahan will also executive produce under her Scrap Paper Pictures banner along with Julie Waters, the company’s head of TV and film development. Battye also executive produces along with Reijn and Taddeo.

Exclusive: Outfest will expand its Screenwriting Lab this year, in partnership with Netflix.
The Outfest Screenwriting Lab was established in 1997 as a screenwriting contest, and has since become the cornerstone of the organization’s education and creative development programming. It will this year provide 10 Lgbtqia+ screenwriters with one-on-one mentorship from top industry showrunners, executives, and writers who will offer professional development, scriptwriting support and insight into the latest trends within the industry, having supported eight scribes in 2021.
The week-long intensive lab will take place virtually in October and will thus be accessible to storytellers across the globe, with applications opening today. Outfest is expanding access to its program with support from Netflix, by waiving submission fees for all applicants and providing grants to help financially support each of the selected screenwriters.

Waters, who has background in both TV and film development, comes from Temple Hill Entertainment, where she spent six years, most recently serving as VP, Development & Production. Her producing credits include Dave (Fxx/Hulu) and the upcoming Hulu series The Other Black Girl, created by Zakiya Harris and Rashida Jones. During her time at Temple Hill, Waters also developed Love, Victor for Hulu/20th and oversaw a slate of development under deals at Lionsgate TV, MRC and 20th, selling series across streaming platforms, cable and broadcast.
