Dark Sky Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Booger, Mary Dauterman’s debut feature starring Grace Glowicki.
The distribution deal comes as Visit Films introduces the body horror pic to international buyers in Berlin. Glowicki plays Anna, a New Yorker faced with the sudden and unexpected death of her best friend and roommate, Izzy, played by Sofia Dobrushin.
As Anna grieves, Izzy’s cat, Booger, runs away, leading to a desperate search, only to be bitten on the hand by the cat. Anna soon takes on feline characteristics and her work life and relationship with her boyfriend go downhill.
“It’s great to see filmmakers like Mary Dauterman pushing the boundaries of horror and delivering something truly memorable. We’re thrilled to be bringing this film to audiences worldwide,” Dark Sky Films’ Giles Edwards said in a statement.
The ensemble cast includes Garrick Bernard, Marcia DeBonis, David Rysdahl and indie icon Heather Matarazzo.

Director Conor Dooley’s all-encompassing comedy short Gold and Mud is a tale of one woman’s interaction with love and loss. A story told across a series of intimate vignettes that, when connected, depict many of life’s pitfalls and absurdities. The brilliance of Dooley’s film is in how subtly profound it is. You’ll be watching along laughing at his protagonist Ana (who is played with heart and humility by Ana Fabrega) and her shenanigans but before long you’ll realise that it’s resonating on a much deeper, emotional level. With Gold and Mud recently arriving online Dn joined Dooley for a conversation about his short, talking through the creative challenges he set himself from the off, how he shot the majority of the film in his own home, and the tonal balance of heart and fart that he always strives to achieve.

Framing dinner scenes can be difficult for filmmakers, as it can be hard to know how to make what is essentially a sit-down conversation cinematic. Perhaps budding directors should study the many different ways Eliza Jiménez Cossio and Lexi Tannenholtz stage We Should Get Dinner!, which uses rapid-fire editing, a propulsive score, and even an ambitious dolly shot in order to keep on escalating the inherent tension at the heart of this sibling comedy-drama. Asking some key questions about what happens when you take someone up on a half-hearted offer, and whether or not family is something that is given or you have to work on, it is at once a meaningful experience and a deeply funny one. We had the wonderful opportunity to talk to both of the New York-based directors about creating the “smallest dolly in the world”, working on alternating close-ups and the choice behind the film’s jazzy drum score.
