It’s official. Galactus is coming to the MCU.
After months of speculation, Marvel officially announced that they’ve found their Galactus. Ralph Ineson, a Game of Thrones veteran known for standout supporting roles in The Witch and The Green Knight, will portray the Devourer of Worlds. Ineson’s casting comes on the heels of other compelling announcements for its upcoming film The Fantastic Four, including Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich. Marvel hasn’t yet disclosed which characters those two are playing, but the smart money has Hauser down for the Mole Man. Malkovich could fit a number of characters, including minor baddies Puppet Master or Diablo, including just a grouchy official. Heck, maybe he’ll finally get to play a version of the Vulture, as he was slated to do in Sam Raimi’s abandoned Spider-Man 4!
While any of those baddies would be fun, the Galactus casting deserves the most attention.

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
At the risk of it sounding a little like a repeat of last year (has anyone been reading these reports that long?), December is always an odd time for an online retailer. There clearly comes a point where whatever postal or shipping service you use cannot get the gift someone needs ahead of the festive day so there always tends to be a bit of a drop off around 20/21st December and as predicted on 21st December I had another day with 0 sales.
However, this year I had the benefit of stocking three retail outlets which hopefully would mean people visiting them had the opportunity to buy something in...

After a slow September, hopes were high that October would return to seeing a normal semblance of online sales levels seen earlier in the year, and indeed the month started strongly with sales of runs of Flash, Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf By Night and X-Men.
We dropped around 100 Spider-Man and Fantastic Four issues into the store around mid-October. No real key issues to speak of but some solid entertaining books featuring some great art by John Romita Jnr (Spidey) and Carlos Pacheco (Ff). Bad news is, no more Immortal Hulk. That book was consistently at the top of my must read list. It took a very familiar mythology, twisted it around a little, and made it seem new and fresh. The good news is, Donny Cates has promised to do the same thing, and has been given a brand new first issue to emphasise this is his book. I believe him, as the Hulk is a character more than any other who has always been much more than just another superhero book. The Hulk has been both anti-hero and villain, Bruce Banner has been both hero and victim. Hulk has been both smart and savage, Banner both top tier intellect and mentally ill down and out. One thing Banner has never been is a bad guy. Is he just good by nature,...

When it comes to comic books, the natural thought most of us have is that of costumed heroes and villains with otherworldly superpowers. No matter where you go for your entertainment—be it movies, television, or video games—it won't take long to come across any of the characters we've all come to know from the "Big 2" Publishers.
While superheroes may be the bread and butter of the industry, what about the other stories of comics? Ones that are on the darker, spookier side of lore?
Horror in comics is hardly a new concept, dating back as far as the beginning of the Golden Age of the 1940s and ’50s. At that time, most were adaptations of popular fiction works such as Eerie Comics' New Adventures of Frankenstein and Classic Comics' Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The genre really found its footing when EC Comics introduced the world to what...

I’m probably a good person to review this visual retrospective of Venom, because I’m not the characters biggest fan but I have been following his comic book appearances all the way back to his first one, which I still have. Rightly or wrongly, I still associate Venom with the overblown 1990’s comic scene, all overblown violence, exaggerated art, and anti-heroes. Shelves groaned under the multiple books being put out featuring Punisher, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Venom. Some were pretty good to be fair, but many were just pumped out to try and make a quick buck. My memories of much of the 90’s comic output are not great ones. Venom, though, like the other characters has shown over time that handled correctly, he can be a strong character. The recent Donny Cates...

I’ve written in a few previous reviews about my, at best, ambivalence about Venom as a character. I’ve never really took to him. I say that as someone who bought the alien symbiote costume’s first appearance from my local newsagent back in the day, who bought Venom’s first actual appearance, and even several of his mini-series. Still have them all too. My problem, I think, is that I still associate Venom with that whole overblown 90’s era. Big guns, gratuitous violence, and books that had ‘in your face’ art but little story behind them. Venom was one of the big Marvel characters front and centre during all this, and a poster boy for the excess of it all. He wasn’t alone of course, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, The Punisher, any...

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has always liked to tease that the real cause of the zombie outbreak in his long-running comic series was extraterrestrial in nature. Back in January 2020, Kirkman responded to a question on Twitter as to the zombie outbreak’s origin with a simple “space spore.”
This was a joke, of course, but it was also a stealthy shout out to what The Walking Dead could have been.
Kirkman originally developed The Walking Dead as a Night of the Living Dead comic. But when Image Comics encouraged him to develop his own idea so that he could control the IP, Kirkman concocted a “Plan 9 From Outer Space-esque tale of how the zombies were actually animated by an alien race that was preparing to invade Earth by disrupting its infrastructure.”

Wolverine #9 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Adam Kubert | Colourist: Frank Martin | Letters: Cory Petit
I just had a big, stupid smile on my face as I read this from cover to cover! Outside of just being a fun read, this issue actaully moves the story in interesting ways from where we left off last month and it leaves you waiting for the next issue. In the previous issue I mentioned how Maverick was portrayed as a real badass. A character trait of his we haven’t seen too much of, especially in recent years. This issue sets it up as a plot point as to why he is this all new badass Maverick . Just as a little side note I continue to enjoy Wolverine’s commentary on how mutant affairs are shaping up on Krakoa. #9 only had 1 text piece which is an improvement on recent months. But I still didn’t bother to read it.

This book is like one of those film trailers you see over and over months before the film itself actually comes out. I’ve been hearing about Crossover for a while, and anticipation has been building steadily. Unlike most trailers, though, advance word didn’t give away all the good stuff to come, just that there was good stuff to come. Written by Donny Cates and drawn by Geoff Shaw, this is from a creative team with good form. Responsible for Image series God Country and Thanos Wins for Marvel, these two have good form, and I’m hoping Crossover lives up to expectations. Let’s take a look.
First off, what an incredible cover. Loved it. Cates jumps straight in with what I guess will be the philosophical heart of the book, ‘what exactly is real?’. It’s an interesting point.

Donny Cates is currently one of the hottest writers in comics, with his Marvel work including Thor and Venom exciting fans, and his upcoming Image Comics series Crossover getting significant buzz ahead of its launch next month. Crossover, however, isn’t his latest project — that would be The One You Feed, a previously unknown title making its surprise digital debut today.
Set in a future where the entire population is transformed into demons after nightfall — either “good wolves” and “bad wolves,” reflecting each person’s inner self — The One You Feed tells the story of the city of Helios, a city with an artificial ...

When Thor first joined the Marvel Universe, it was as Harvard Medical student Donald Blake, but after years splitting time between the two alter egos, Thor became a separate being and Blake left Asgard (mostly) behind. But in November’s Thor #9 by Donny Cates and Nic Klein, Don Blake returns and things are looking less than great for the good doctor.
“‘Prey’ is maybe the most fun I’ve ever had writing at Marvel. Thor fans are going to lose their minds over this one and I can’t wait to unleash this terrifying beast on them!” Cates said. “Nic Klein is back and at the top of his game on this one. I promise you this, True Believers, just like the mighty thunder king himself…..you won’t see this one coming. Behold…the return of Donald Blake!”
Blake was initially transferred out of Thor around when Walter Simonson began his epic run.

This week I have an interview with Ryan of Only Comics Fans. It is a site I can personally vouch for after using it very recently. It came across my Instagram timline and like all comic related things I clicked it. I’ll be honest a lot of this clicking ends in disspointment but this time I was very happy to see a new website offering Bronze Age back issues. With the Instagram link there was a 10% discount code so I picked out the three Daredevil issues they had that I didn’t. All three were very well priced pre discount code and the condition was as described. The extra care and attention to packing was well worth the price. After my purchase I thought it would be good to catch up with Ryan. In this lockdown world even though this blog is called ‘eBuying Comics’ I think it is...

In case you hadn’t heard, Fortnite players have unwittingly found themselves in the middle of a cosmic war. Shortly after arriving on Apollo Island last week, Thor has beamed several of his superhero friends into the battle royale in order to take on Galactus. The planet-devouring entity, it turns out, is eager to have a taste of Fortnite’s world and will surely get his way if the good guys fail.
That’s the premise presented on developer Epic Games’ end, at least, but the narrative actually goes much, much deeper than that. As it turns out, Marvel has been setting the stage for this particular crossover for quite some time, even going so far as to explain why the aforementioned Asgardian has turned up in what appears to be a completely different dimension from his own.
For context, a relatively new Thor comic series penned by Donny Cates...

Something big is coming to Fortnite. As we already discussed last week, teasers and rumors are pointing to some kind of big Marvel crossover for the game’s Chapter 2 Season 4. It’s not the craziest idea, especially since Fortnite previously brought Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet to its battle royale mode to tie into Avengers: Endgame last year.
We already know that this event will revolve around Thor in some way, which is way more fitting than Thanos, considering how Thor played Fortnite in Avengers: Endgame with his Warbound brethren Korg and Miek.
But Thor ain’t coming alone. The island will also get a visit from Galactus! Eater of Worlds! Wielder of the Power Cosmic! He Who Was a Cloud of Gas in That Movie We Don’t Talk About! All of this is according to a new teaser that dropped online as well as an in-game comic book that warns of Galactus’ arrival.

For the last couple years, Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman have been putting together a pretty crazy and frankly must-read Venom ongoing series. Venom has a rather messy narrative history full of retcons and ideas that don’t sync well, so during his run, Cates has decided to cut into Venom lore like a surgeon with a chainsaw.
Certain aspects of Venom’s past have been written out, like the idea that Eddie Brock had cancer or even a sister. Brian Michael Bendis’ attempt to rewrite the symbiote species as some kind of gooey cosmic knight armor created to protect the universe has also been discarded.
There have been two important characters introduced in this series. One is Dylan Brock, Eddie’s recently-discovered son who has symbiote DNA mixed into his biology. He appears to be a major step in symbiote evolution and that worries the Maker (Ultimate Reed Richards...

Humble Bundle is a great way to add some bulk to your digital comics (and games) collection while also doing some good in the world. They offer pay-what-you-want deals that let you divert however much of your purchase you want to charity, and if you spend at certain levels, you get more stuff. Since its inception, they’ve had bundles covering everything from G.I. Joe and Transformers comics to kids books or Top Shelf art books.
The latest bundle covers almost $1600 worth of collected editions from Image Comics, with proceeds being sent to two outstanding charities: the Binc Foundation, the nonprofit helping independent bookstores weather the Covid-related economic downturn; and the Hero Initiative, a nonprofit that helps provide a safety net to comic creators in need. But the question that might jump to mind for an overwhelmed reader is “Is this bundle actually a deal?”

Although the future of Venom in the Marvel and Sony cinematic universes is somewhat unclear, there are a few theories as to how the symbiote may cross between different worlds. The current Venom series from Marvel Comics is also offering increased evidence though that Eddie Brock could eventually be regarded as a key player for the side of good in the publisher’s main continuity. Indeed, Captain America appears to be keen to bring Brock/Venom into the Avengers fold, according to the latest issue of the title.
In the Donny Cates-written Venom comics, Brock has defeated threats from symbiote god Knull’s dragon, as well as turning the tide in the Absolute Carnage arc by taking on Captain America’s shield when he loses his powers. The same arc also revealed Brock’s complicated relationship with his son, while also introducing the awesome Venom Hulk when the symbiote...

Al Ewing will take over a new Guardians of the Galaxy series for Marvel.
With Donny Cates taking over the writing duties on Thor, there was room for a new writer to pick up Guardians of the Galaxy. And at Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con, the new team was announced: Juan Cabal (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) on art, and Al Ewing (Immortal Hulk) writing.
Ewing is currently lighting the world on fire with Joe Bennett on Immortal Hulk. The book is the first to go full monster movie with Bruce Banner's alter-ego in some time, and it's by far the most successful because there are enormous helpings of body and psychological horror added in. It is weird and discomforting and gorgeous and easily one of the best things Marvel has published this decade.

Marvel has confirmed a new Thor series with a new creative team.
At Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con, Donny Cates and Nic Klein (Deadpool) were announced as the next creative team to tackle Thor.
Jason Aaron, the current writer, is wrapping up a massive, seven year run that spanned ten series, three crossovers and more than 110 individual issues. It's widely regarded as one of the greatest runs on the character of all time, leaving some pretty large shoes to fill.
Cates has, however, already been filling them. Sort of.
Cates is currently writing Marvel's big Spider-Man crossover, Absolute Carnage. It ties together work he's been doing on Silver Surfer Black and Venom about the history and origins of the symbiotes, one that ties the God of the Symbiotes, Knull, to Thor through Thor's enem, Gorr the God Butcher and his Necrosword.

Carnage recently destroyed Marvel's supervillain asylum Ravencroft. Marvel is going to explore it further.
Marvel is currently in the middle of Absolute Carnage, an event built out of the Donny Cates Venom run that mostly boils down to: Carnage has tapped into the power of the God of Symbiotes and is getting stronger and stronger as he hunts down anyone who’s ever worn a symbiote before. While this led to Carnage invading the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane to get his hands on Norman Osborn (who previously hosted Carnage), the tie-in Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool had the place burned to the ground.
The writer on that side-story was Frank Tieri, who will be building on that incident to give us The Ruins of Ravencroft starting this January.
At New York Comic Con, Tieri joked that Ravencroft is just Marvel’s Arkham Asylum and blunt as he was.

If you’ve been following what Marvel’s been up to on the comic book side of things for the past few years, then surely you know that they’ve been having a ton of fun with the Punisher. Not only did he end up donning the War Machine armor in his own ongoing series at one point, but he’s also been revealed to be the Cosmic Ghost Rider in the incredibly popular “King Thanos” story arc.
In fact, there’s been so much love and support for the character since his debut that Marvel now wants to bring him into the McU.
