As far as Marvel movies go, Black Widow is one of the most divisive entries in the long-running series of inter-connected superhero slugfests. While some fans feel the movie was too late to the party, others say it was a questionable display of Marvel’s dependence on shotty VFX above character-driven narratives. On another end of the spectrum, Ray Winstone, who plays Dreykov, the film’s Big Bad and dominating force behind the Red Room project, says making the movie was a nightmare. Winstone’s experience in the film was so exhausting that the actor tried to have himself recast.
Speaking with Radio Times, Winstone said, “It was fine until you have to do the reshoots,” Winstone said about his Black Widow experience. “Then you find out that a few producers have come down, and your performance is too much, it’s too strong… That’s the way Marvel works.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up to unleash a new team of heroes, or perhaps anti-heroes, onto the big screen with the upcoming film “Thunderbolts.” This movie, scheduled for a May 2025 release, takes inspiration from the long-running comic book series featuring a group of reformed supervillains trying to walk the straight and narrow.

Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” is coming further into focus.
Geraldine Viswanathan has joined the cast of the team-up film, replacing Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role after the Emmy-winning “The Bear” star dropped out of the project due to scheduling.
Viswanathan joins a massive ensemble cast of actors playing some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best known anti-heroes, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker (aka U.S. Agent), Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr (aka Ghost), Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Although specific plot details remain top secret, the movie will effectively serve as Marvel’s version of the DC’s anti-hero team the Suicide Squad, with the characters brought together to do the dirty jobs the Avengers can’t do.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. In June 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ film was confirmed to be in the works. Jake Schreier was set to direct, and Eric Pearson writing the script. Production was slated to kick off in Summer 2023, and the cast was expected to include actors already associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel Studios making efforts to ensure their availability. Then, the SAG-AFTRA strike happened and paralyzed the industry for more than 3 months. Plenty of projects in Hollywood suffered, and MCU, whose projects are not exactly standalone and are all basically interconnected, suffered the most.

"Thunderbolts" has become the second Marvel Cinematic Universe feature to halt filming amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Deadline reported late Thursday. (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed shortly thereafter.) The film, which was set to enter production in Atlanta, Georgia in about three weeks in June 2023, will now roll cameras after the writers strike has ended.
Earlier in May, the Mahershala Ali-led "Blade" -- currently slated for September 2024 -- became the first Marvel Studios project to hit pause. It was in the pre-production stage, and like "Thunderbolts," was expected to begin filming in June. Marvel has also stopped shooting on "Wonder Man" -- the Disney+ series with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead -- which had been running in Los Angeles.

The newest Marvel film, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," follows the titular heroes as they head into one of Marvel's most mysterious areas: the Quantum Realm. There, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and company meet an alternate timeline variant of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), first introduced as He Who Remains at the end of "Loki" season one. Kang is set to be the overarching villain of Marvel's Phase 5, culminating in a Phase 6 Avengers movie titled "The Kang Dynasty." The Quantum Realm played a role in 2015's "Ant-Man" and 2018's "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (plus it helped the Avengers figure out how to time travel in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame"). But if you're still a little confused, we're breaking down what the Quantum Realm is, what we've learned from its previous appearances on screen, and what it all means for "Quantumania."

David Harbour is a relative newcomer to the MCU — he debuted his role as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in 2021’s Black Widow and is set to reprise the character in the upcoming Thunderbolts team-up.
So when it came time to learn everything he could about his future castmates, he turned to We Have a Ghost co-star Anthony Mackie, who had some particular advice about his franchise frenemy, Sebastian Stan, who will also be appearing in Thunderbolts as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier.
“Sebastian is a very nice person,” Mackie said with a grin as he and co-star Jahi Di’Allo Winston spoke with Et’s Ash Crossan this week.
“Don’t take his quietness and standoffishness as him being mean or rude. You just have to warm him up a little bit,” he teased. “You know, give him some almond butter, talk to him a little bit. He’ll be fine.

To say that "The Bear" was the unexpected cultural breakout of 2022 would be an understatement, and that can be seen in the rising career trajectory of its co-lead, Ayo Edebiri. Now, she's about to enter a whole new world of prominence, as she's officially been cast in Marvel Studios' "Thunderbolts." Deadline broke the news, which revealed that her role is being kept under wraps. So much so that Marvel themselves declined to comment on the casting.
There is a lot to say about how Marvel seems to grab rising talent at an alarming rate. It's like every time a new and talented actor or director comes onto the scene, Marvel seems to swoop in and commit them to at least one project. That being said, at least ir grabbed Edebiri for arguably its most interesting project moving forward. While exact details are understandably being kept a secret, we do know...

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania might seem like a weird movie to kick off Phase 5 of the MCU. The Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) solo movies have been wholesome family capers to date, with the first movie focusing on Lang’s path from recently-released small time criminal to budding superhero, and the second building up the Ant-Fam’s bond while they endeavored to help a suffering woman called Ava Starr, who was putting others in danger.
The third film has a bigger agenda, though. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see Lang and co. pulled into the Quantum Realm and Kang the Conqueror’s (Jonathan Majors) domain. The villain and his many Variants will be the big bad(s) of Phases 5 and 6, and judging from the trailers and clips that Marvel has revealed so far, this threequel will be a much more serious and deadly affair...

Marvel's "Thunderbolts" movie is still over a year away, but that won't stop Marvel fans — and the team here at /Film — from speculating about what the introduction of the "Suicide Squad"-like group of ragtag antiheroes will mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. One of the most mysterious items in Marvel’s Phase 5 film slate has been “Thunderbolts,” a movie that is set to follow a new team of villains who are recruited to go on a dangerous mission for the government. Little has been known about the project, which hails from director Jake Schierer and screenwriters Kurt Busiek and Eric Pearson, other than its 2024 release date and “Suicide Squad”-like premise.

Early on, the PlayStation VR brought us Batman Arkham VR, which allowed us to be the Dark Knight. It was cool that you could play with those wonderful toys, but if you were going to take over for a DC hero using virtual reality, the real deal should really be someone like Superman or Green Lantern. Being the World’s Greatest Detective is one thing, but if we’re going to be truly immersive, then flying and shooting lasers is where it’s at. Luckily, the people at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Camouflaj realized that with the Marvel license, you could have your superhero cake and eat it too.
Want to fly around shooting lasers And play with the high-tech gadgets of a billionaire with daddy issues? Why not be Tony Stark, the Invincible Iron Man?
“Be Iron Man with use of VR” is such a high concept that it practically sells itself.

Disney+ will soon be taking up the mantle of Marvel television in an effort to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a more interconnected way than ever before, with its first offering, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, arriving on the streaming service later this year. Spinning out of the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, the series will follow Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they adapt to life in a world without Steve Rogers or the Avengers and work to shed the personas by which they’ve been defined for so long. The show will also feature the returns of Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo, both of whom were last seen in Captain America: Civil War, as well as the debut of John Walker, alternately known as Super-Patriot and U.S.Agent, as the military’s officially-sanctioned successor to Captain America.

The most common criticism of the forthcoming Marvel Studios film Black Widow is that it will launch Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe not by moving the franchise forward beyond the cataclysmic confrontation of Avengers: Endgame, but by looking backward into its own history to tell an intermediate story of a character we’ve already seen make the ultimate sacrifice.
Many have suspected, however, that the retrospective adventure will not simply fill the two-year gap between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but also introduce additional heretofore unknown elements to the overall universe. Now, that conjecture appears to be confirmed as some of the details of Black Widow‘s post-credits scenes have been publicized. In retrospect, with Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame recently including 70+ characters from the McU, looking back at the original Avengers from 2012, it almost feels like a quaint affair, featuring just six superheroes fighting off an alien invasion. But 2012 was a different era, and it was unheard of at the time to have such a gigantic crossover between individual superhero franchises to create a team-up movie. At it turns out, however, the original Avengers squad should’ve had even more members and been an even bigger affair than it already was.
With later films in the McU frequently going back to before the events of the 2012 pic, it’s since been revealed that there were several other superpowered beings active at the time. This article contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp and the wider McU.
Less than a year before the McU’s first solely female-led superhero outing in Captain Marvel and following hot on the heels of Avengers: Infinity War comes the strange anomaly Ant-Man and the Wasp, a film with few ties to the franchise that birthed it but that could ultimately provide a lot of key pieces of the puzzle going forward.
We pick up with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) almost two years after the events of Civil War, in which he responded to Sam Wilson’s call to arms in Germany. Apparently, this wasn’t exactly sanctioned by either the Us government or the creator of the Ant-Man suit, Hank...

Though the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame left us with plenty of questions, the footage did offer some confirmation, in case it was needed, that Scott Lang makes it out of the Quantum Realm, and probably pretty early in the picture, too.
Of course, what remains to be seen is how exactly the character makes his escape, and the internet has its suggestions, from the the time vortexes teased in the post-credits of Ant-Man and the Wasp, to some sort of failsafe device that would allow Scott to return to the normal world without assistance from the other side. But supposing Ant-Man does need some help to escape the Quantum Realm, one post on Reddit suggests that it could come from his last movie’s antagonist, Ava Starr, aka Ghost.
Indeed, it’s worth remembering that the whole reason for Scott’s latest trip into the Quantum Realm was to...

Ten years ago, Iron Man was released and was hailed as brilliant interpretation of a B-list hero few outside of comic shops knew. Just three years ago, Ant-Man was lauded for taking an even more obscure hero and making the same magic. Where the former’s sequel stumbled, the latter’s soared.
Ant-Man and the Wasp, out today on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/Digital HD from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, is possibly even more enjoyable but wouldn’t be that way without having the first film to build on. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) was the first diminutive hero, using the Pym particles to shrink and perform feats on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., eventually sharing his adventures with his equally brilliant scientist wife Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), until there was the mission where she didn’t return.

Ant-Man and the Wasp saw the McU debut of Janet Van Dyne, a character with a long history in the comics as the original Wasp, as played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Fans were excited to see what the sequel would do with her and while the actress made a big impression in the part, we didn’t get too much of Janet in action. Mostly because a large chunk of the plot revolved around rescuing her from the Quantum Realm.
Now, director Peyton Reed’s explained that Janet’s limited screentime was partially deliberate, as he wanted to retain a sense of mystery about her missing decades. This was to get fans theorizing about what effect living in the Quantum Realm for 30 years has had on her – including the new powers she seems to have gained.

Earlier this month, a promo for Ant-Man and the Wasp flew online that featured Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly attempting to imitate each member of the Avengers: Infinity War cast in just one gesture. But the truth is, Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne’s latest outing already saw the Wasp and her parents do a pitch-perfect impression of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – well, half of them anyway – when the three of them turned to dust as a result of Thanos’ genocidal finger-snap, leaving Scott marooned in the depths of the Quantum Realm.
For the sake of this post-credits cliffhanger, it was perhaps necessary that everyone present after Ant-Man ventured into this mysterious zone suffered the same sad fate, so that no one could be left to heed his cries for help. In that sense, the creative team behind the McU flick had to think carefully about who to include...

Forget Hank and Janet’s mooted origin story for just a moment and those rumors concerning Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s potential ties to Captain Marvel; for in this new McU theory, it’s suggested that Ava Starr (Ghost) will be swinging by Avengers 4 in some shape or form.
As ComicBook.com points out, Ghost changed allegiances mid-way through Ant-Man and the Wasp, when it was revealed that, in a tragic twist of fate, her reality-altering skillset is also the one thing that’s killing her, and it’s up to Scott Lang and his newly-formed team to deep dive into the Quantum Realm in order to find a cure – or something to that effect.
They find a solution in the form of Quantum energy, which is used to stabilize Ghost to some degree. So assuming she’s still alive by the time Ant-Man and the Wasp is over, and...

[Note: Major spoilers ahead for “Ant-Man and The Wasp. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the movie, we recommend not reading further.]
One of the great standouts of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is the mysterious Ghost, (played excellently by Hannah John-Kamen), a masked, sci-fi-suited fighter who can become intangible — meaning she can pass through walls, go invisible, and so on — and who makes life hell for our heroes. But much like her “quantum phasing” abilities, not everything is as it seems.
We later learn she’s a young woman named Ava Starr, who got her powers as a child after she was exposed to a failed attempt to recreate the technology that makes Ant-Man and the Wasp possible. Now those same powers are killing her, and her seemingly villainous actions stem from her quest to find a cure before its too late.
All of that is wildly different from her comic book counterpart. Though the...
