High School will not be returning for a second season. Amazon Freevee has cancelled the coming-of-age drama series. The series, created by Clea DuVall, premiered on the streaming service in October 2022.
Inspired by the High School memoir by Tegan and Sara Quin, the drama series takes place in the 1990s and stars TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland. Told against a backdrop of grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.
Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer guested as the twins' parents. The other cast members include Olivia Rouyre, Amanda Fix, Brianne Tju, Geena Meszaros, Cj Valleroy, and Nate Corddry.

There will be no second season for High School. Amazon Freevee has canceled the coming-of-age drama based on Tegan and Sara Quin’s bestselling memoir after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
The cancellation is not a big surprise. The series’ last aired its first and only 8-episode season in October 2022.
Produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaved between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

What could possibly top the recent run of cocaine-fueled bears, sharks, and cougars? How about a cute, three-toed critter turning a sorority house into a Slotherhouse? Yes, the world’s slowest animal has turned homicidal and is carving up sorority girls like a seasoned slasher. Although, as the prologue that shows the critter getting bagged by poachers hints, this isn’t your typically chill furry tree hanger.
Emily wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become president of Sigma Lambda Theta, Slth for short. Unfortunately, she lacks the ruthlessness and social media presence of the current president Brianna. However, a chance meeting with Oliver, an exotic animal aficionado of dubious morality, changes everything.

"In the jungle, she's a 'beta.' But out here, she's an 'alpha.'" Gravitas Ventures + Iconic Events have unveiled the first official trailer for Slotherhouse, the hilariously fun new slasher horror film featuring a killer sloth. Yes, seriously, it's real – and amazing. It's described as a "delightfully over-the-top and movie about a sloth that goes on a killing spree in a sorority..." In the spirit of M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, and the Chucky / Child's Play series, though I'd reckon it's more like Gremlins or Critters. Emily Young wants to be elected as her sorority's president. She adopts a cute sloth, thinking it can become the new mascot and help her win, until a string of fatalities implicate the sloth as the main suspect in the murders. It's time to meet Alpha the Killer Sloth. Starring Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Sutter Nolan, and Grace Patterson.

“There was not a moment I forgot just how crazy it was what we were asking them to do,” remembers Clea DuVall about casting the stars of her Freevee series “High School.” She and fellow showrunner Laura Kittrell chose twins Railey Gilliland and Seazynn Gilliland to play fictionalized versions of the real-life musical duo Tegan and Sara Quin, even though neither had any acting experience. Kittrell adds that on the first day of shooting, all their doubts melted away. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“High School” is based on Tegan and Sara’s autobiography of the same name, and the series is a queer coming-of-age story that chronicles a year in the twins’ lives as they first discover their talent for music while navigating a new high school. DuVall met the musicians backstage at one of their performances over 15 years ago and struck up a friendship with them. She...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains light spoilers for the first four episodes of “High School,” now streaming on Amazon Freevee.
When Clea DuVall first met the Canadian indie musicians Tegan and Sara Quin years ago, “I was not familiar with their music,” she recalled in an interview this week. Nonetheless, after DuVall — a prolific actor in movies such as “But I’m a Cheerleader” and “Argo” — was introduced to the duo when she joined some friends who were seeing them perform, the three women eventually all became good friends “through being in the same circles.” As DuVall began to explore directing, the first things she ever did were promotional videos for Tegan and Sara’s “Heartthrob” record, released in early 2013. Since then, she’s collaborated with them a number of times: Among other things. Sara Quin scored DuVall’s 2016 feature debut as a writer-director “The Intervention,” and Tegan and Sara wrote...

If you’re someone of a certain (gay) persuasion, all I have to say about “High School” to pique your interest is that it’s a) a new coming-of-age drama about twin musicians Tegan and Sara Quin that’s b) based on Tegan and Sara’s own memoir, c) co-stars Cobie Smulders as their mother and d) was created in large part by no other than Clea DuVall, whose performance in “But I’m a Cheerleader” among many other credits has long made her the subject of many a queer awakening. Whether these points immediately intrigue you or not, though, you should also know that the show is also great. You don’t have to know who Tegan and Sara are to appreciate their story, which explores loneliness, connection and longing with such palpable empathy.

As titles go, it doesn’t get much more generic than Amazon Freevee’s High School, which could suggest anything from a broad parody to a high-minded documentary to a gritty reboot of High School Musical. What it probably doesn’t suggest is what it actually is: a tender portrait of two teenage girls that draws its strength from its knack for unvarnished details and uncommon sense of empathy.
It also just so happens to be a music biopic of sorts, given that it’s adapted from Canadian indie pop duo Tegan and Sara Quin’s memoir of the same title. But you don’t have to be able to name a single tune of theirs to appreciate High School on its own merits. The second scene in “High School,” before even the title card makes an appearance, sees future Canadian pop star Tegan Quin absently staring at the already-iconic Icelandic pop star Björk. While the swan queen would serve as a sound role model for any artistic-minded youth, Björk’s words barely register with the brooding young woman, sitting in her basement, building resentment toward a sister who’s upstairs monopolizing their once-shared friend, Phoebe (Olivia Rouyre). Soon, in a fight ostensibly started over a loud boombox, Sara (Seazynn Gilliland) gets one heck of a shiner from her frustrated sibling, Tegan (played by Railey Gilliland).
But just as the sudden outburst of violence isn’t a sign of dark and dangerous events to come, Björk’s wisdom isn’t doomed to obscurity — not for viewers, anyway. “I think I’ve been playing music long enough to realize that if I’m having fun,...

The second season finale of ‘American Horror Stories’ gets pulled away by the tide and struggles to find its way back to a compelling conclusion.
“She needs to find her life again and get back to normal. We all do.”
There are some exceptional horror films that find fear within the unknown depths of the sea, whether it’s overt monster movies like Deep Rising, Underwater, or “The Raft” segment from Creepshow 2, or terrifying tales that are adjacent to the water like The Shallows. American Horror Story has more or less left underwater tales of woe alone even though a story that’s centered on the Loch Ness Monster or other aquatic Cryptids seems completely in line with the series’ agenda. “Lake,” the season finale of American Horror Stories’ second season, avoids a modern monster myth in favor of a somber meditation on grief and guilt. Amazon Freevee has released the first trailer for High School, an eight-episode coming-of-age drama based on the New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name from Tegan and Sara Quin. The first four episodes of High School will premiere Oct. 14, with new episodes available every Friday on Amazon Freevee (formerly IMDb TV).
Produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

Zac Garred in ‘The Seance.’
While most actors around the world are having an enforced rest due to the pandemic, Zac Garred is in demand. After shooting the horror film The Seance in Pennsylvania, the LA-based actor is heading to Montana next week for the drama Zero Road.

In first-time director/producer Chance Sanchez’s Zero Road he is cast as Josh, a fat drug dealer described as a 1990s boy band reject.
The semi-autobiographical tale centres on a gifted teen who struggles to survive poverty while supporting his mother who suffers from a meth addiction.
