Steve Poirier(II)
- Writer
Stephen Poirier was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. His father was a fisherman (deceased 2007) and his mother was an elementary and special education teacher, now retired. He has three brothers, two older and one younger. His father was descendant of Acadian settlers who came to Canada in the 17th century. On his mother's side his forebears come from the British Isles. Though his father was a native French speaker, in the home the family spoke only English and Stephen attended English speaking schools.
After high school Stephen attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) with a major in history. He received his MA in history from the University of Western Ontario. He began a PH. D. course at the same school but after 18 months took a sabbatical to teach English in Seoul, Korea. The lure of steady employment and a chance to pay off student debts and travel made him give up his dreams to become a history professor. He spent the next 25 years working in the English education field in Korea, Russia, and for a short time back in Canada.
In the late 1990s he began writing screenplays but found it difficult to penetrate the Hollywood system. He turned to writing education books and found steady work in that field. A chance meeting between one of his brothers and an old friend in Thailand led him to writing screenplays for a Thai production company in 2018. His first screen credit is a horror film called the 'Two of Us'.
