- Diminutive, graceful, porcelain pretty Japanese actress Yoko Tani was born and raised in France and was making a living as a Parisienne dancer when opportunities for film came her way in the mid-1950s. Appearing in a number of minor Eurasian parts in such French films as Marchandes d'illusions (1954) [Nights of Shame], Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1954) [Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves], and Mannequins de Paris (1956) [Mannequins of Paris], she was also featured in a couple of Japanese productions before branching out internationally.
The cameras displayed a lovely, quiet beauty in the 1950s and she was absolutely beguiling opposite Dirk Bogarde in the "Sayonara"-like WW2 film The Wind Cannot Read (1958) with Bogarde portraying a British POW in a Japanese camp who flees in order to locate his ill wife [Ms. Tani] who initially was his language teacher. She also was quite appealing in another film that dealt with turbulent ethnic themes. The Italian/French/British co-production of The Savage Innocents (1960) co-starred Tani as the wife of Eskimo Anthony Quinn in a culture clash between Eskimos and Canadians that leads to murder. While fetching to the eye, the actress was rather modest in talent and was soon relegated to "B" and "C" level movies. In the 1960s she became a customary player of meek princess-in-distress types in such costumed adventures as Marco Polo (1962), Samson and the 7 Miracles of the World (1961) [Maciste at the Court of the Great Khan] and Tartar Invasion (1961) [The Tartar Invasion], which co-starred her one-time husband, French actor Roland Lesaffre.
She was under-utilized in Hollywood as well in her few attempts. Minor supporting roles in My Geisha (1962) and Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) left her deep in the shadows of leading ladies Shirley MacLaine and Elizabeth Montgomery, respectively. Left to playing a dribbling of femme leads in such low grade spy intrigue and sci-fi, she was little seen after the late 1960s. In later years she enjoyed painting and was devoted to her religion and her dog that she named "Toto". Yoko Tani died in her native Paris of cancer at the age of 70. - Set Decorator

Not much is publicly known about the early life of Mark Sandman, and that is just the way he wanted it. Friendly but private, Sandman preferred to discuss his professional work instead of himself. This much is known: Sandman was born on the 24th of September, 1952 and grew up in Newton, Massachusetts. Sometime after graduating from college he began working odd jobs and travelling, which included work as a cab driver, professional fisherman, and construction worker. According to Sandman he would work an extreme number of hours and spend his earnings on trips, most notably to Colorado. Two events impacted his life during this period and would later influence his music directly - the untimely death of his brothers and a stab wound "to the chest" he suffered. Some attributed this stab wound sustained during a robbery while working as a cab driver, and the suspected damage to his heart, to his untimely death years later. Sandman first obtained success with the blues-rock group Treat Her Right. They were later signed, and dropped, from a major recording label and once opened for Stevie Ray Vaughn. The band would later break up. While still playing in Treat Her Right in 1989, Sandman formed the rock group Morphine with saxophonist Dana Colley and drummer Jerome "Jerry" Deupree. Sandman spent the next ten years developing Morphine into an internationally-popular alternative rock band, developing his home studio Hi-n-Dry, and playing in various bands and groups in the Boston area, including the Supersonics, The Pale Brothers, and with various bandmates from Treat Her Right. On July 3rd, 1999, Morphine was playing in Palestrina, Italy, when Sandman suffered a fatal heart attack on stage. He was survived by his parents Bob and Tel Sandman, sister Martha Holmes, and his beloved girlfriend Sabine Hrechdakian. Morphine's final album, The Night, was released soon after to massive critical acclaim. A city block in Cambridge, Massachusetts has since been named in his honor, and a charitable organization (the Mark Sandman Music Education Fund) was formed to honor his memory by aiding the music education of schoolchildren in Cambridge. Annually, a tribute concert is also performed to benefit the Fund and keep Sandman's memory alive.- Tex Konig was born on 10 September 1940 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA.
