Sharaliev graduated from the St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University and the VGIK, Moscow. He has worked at Boyana Film Studio, Bulgaria and had been a member of the Parliament from 1972 to 1980. He was a Chair of the Board of the directors of Boyana Film Studio. He was the winner of a numerous Grand Prix at national and international film festivals. She got her first film industry job on The Plague Dogs as an animation cell painter through a connection made by her brother Nick Stern in 1981. Later she worked on two George Lucas features at Industrial Light and Magic in Marin County in the Rotoscope Division. Moved to Southern California in 1985. Married in 1987 to Sam Berro.
