David Sporn first entered the film industry during his final semester of college at the University of Maryland when he interned, and later became a writer and editor for indie film trade journal In Motion: A Film and Video Magazine. He quickly became infatuated with the industry and completed his first short film before the term ended. After brief stints writing advertising copy, launching an educational video department for a small publisher, and attending a training program on the set of ABC's All My Children, David earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University in Film in 1992.
While finishing up the Masters program, David launched Sporn Productions, through which he produced and directed music videos, documentaries and promos along, several of which received national distribution. He also became a partner in Arc Pictures, a full service video editing facility, where he provided both off-line and on-line editing services. Sporn Productions and Arc Pictures serviced such clients as Jonathan Demme, Ernest Dickerson, J. Walter Thompson, Island Records, Swatch Watch Company and Scholastic Press.
In 1994, David joined the team of New Line Cinema, where he is a Vice President of Business Affairs Administration. In 2000, David completed his first feature film project, _Road From Erebus, The (2002) (TV)_, which he wrote produced and directed. To raise financing, David produced a 4-minute trailer, which he entered as a Work-In-Progress at the Independent Feature Film Market. Out of approximately 125 WIP's at the market that year, Erebus was 1 of only 2 to receive production financing. The project went on to garner pre-sales in three countries at the American Film Market in 1999 and received several strong notices, including a glowing review from "Ain't It Cool News." "The Road From Erebus" was invited to the Austin Film Festival for a special screening as a world premiere. New Line Television distributed the picture, which was picked up by HBO and Starz Encore.
David has now launched Short End Productions, a production/development company, with partners Jeff Reddick (creator of the "Final Destination" franchise), Brett Leitner and Ovi Vitas.- Editorial Department
