- Jaspers began studying law in 1901 at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich. During this time, he was diagnosed with an incurable disease of his heart and lungs, which meant he had to spend most of his life lying down. It was also the reason that he switched to studying medicine in Berlin. The following year he left Berlin and moved first to Göttingen and then to Heidelberg. In 1908 he completed his studies with the state examination. From 1908 to 1915 he worked as a medical intern at the psychiatric clinic in Heidelberg. He later worked there as an employee. In 1909 he received his doctorate. get a doctorate in med. Jaspers wrote his doctoral thesis on the topic of "Homesickness and Crime".
In the same year he met the renowned sociologist Max Weber, who influenced his thinking. In 1910 Jaspers married the neurologist Gertrud Mayer. Jaspers studied the works of the philosophers Edmund Husserl and Wilhelm Dilthey in detail. In 1913 he received his habilitation as a professor. The title of his habilitation thesis was "General Psychopathology," which provides a methodological overview of this field. In the same year he began working as a private lecturer at Heidelberg University. Jaspers dedicated himself to the psychological analysis and interpretation of philosophical views.
In 1919 his second major work, entitled "Psychology of World Views," was edited. It is about the study of philosophy against the background of science. In the same year he met another great existential philosopher, Martin Heidegger. The contact developed into a friendly relationship. In 1922 Jaspers received a position as a full professor at the University of Heidelberg. Among his students is the philosopher Hanna Arendt. In 1931 his work "The Intellectual Situation of Our Time" was published. In it he counters the judgment that science is the origin of truth. The following year, his major work "Philosophy" was published in three volumes. In it, Jaspers deals with the fundamental concerns of his existential philosophy.
In 1933, the year the National Socialists came to power, Jaspers was excluded from the university administration and forced into retirement. In 1943 he was banned from publishing by the Nazi regime. After the end of the Second World War in 1945, Jaspers took part in the establishment of Heidelberg University. He founded the magazine "Die Wandlung", which aimed to achieve intellectual and moral innovation. In 1947 the first volume of Jasper's work "On Truth" on philosophical logic was published. In the post-war period he criticized the behavior of the Germans during Nazi rule and also in the period after the war in various writings. On the other hand, Jaspers received criticism for this. As a consequence, he left Heidelberg and settled in Basel.
He taught there at the university from 1948. Karl Jaspers saw it as a duty and responsibility to speak out on political issues. He justified the interference with the combination of philosophy and politics against the background of human freedom. Throughout his life, Jaspers gave his opinion on political matters, particularly those of Germany. But he also commented publicly on questions relating to the German scientific community. Jasper's interventions repeatedly gave rise to criticism. In 1957 Jasper's first volume on the world history of philosophy was published under the title "The Great Philosophers". In it he divides the history of philosophy into three main areas and denies it as a progressive process.
The following year, the philosopher was honored with the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. In 1964, Jaspers received the "Pour le Mérite" peace class medal. He became a Swiss citizen in 1967. His work already includes over 30 books with around 12,000 printed pages, a legacy of 35,000 sheets with several thousand letters. - Actress

Bohuslav Martinu was born on 8 December 1890 in Politschka, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary [now Policka, Czech Republic]. He was a composer and writer, known for Giorgino (1994), Our History (1984) and Invasion of the Blood Farmers (1972). He was married to Charlotte Léonie Victorine Quennehen. He died on 28 August 1959 in Liestal, near Basel, Switzerland.- Haber came from a Jewish family. His father ran a trading business for fabrics, paints, varnishes and drugs. Severe complications occurred during his birth; the mother died three weeks later. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, he studied chemistry in Berlin and Heidelberg from 1886. In Berlin he received his doctorate in organic chemistry in 1891 with a thesis on some derivatives of piperonal. Meanwhile, Haber converted to the Protestant Christian faith in 1893. In 1894, Haber received an assistant position in physical chemistry at the Karlsruhe University of Technology and completed his habilitation there in 1896.
In 1898, Haber received an appointment as a professor at the University of Karlsruhe. From 1904 he worked on the catalytic formation of ammonia. In 1908, the chemist found a method to obtain ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen under high temperature and pressure. On October 12, 1908, his research was patented. He was a professor at the University of Berlin from 1906 and an honorary professor of physical chemistry from 1912. In 1911 he was appointed head of the Institute for Physical Chemistry of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society, the predecessor of today's Max Planck Society. He released his "process for the synthetic production of ammonia from the elements" to BASF for commercial use.
At the same time he worked here as a scientist. Haber worked primarily in the fields of electrochemistry and investigated the thermodynamics of gas reactions. He also made a contribution to organic chemistry through work on nitro compounds. In addition to studies of physical chemistry, nitrogen reactions became his preferred area of research. He tried to synthesize ammonia, which is an indispensable basis for the production of explosives and fertilizer. This enabled Carl Bosch to develop the so-called Haber-Bosch process in industrial production in 1913.
After the outbreak of the First World War, Haber offered the institute's services to the Prussian army administration in 1914. The institute was subsequently involved in the development of gas weapons, which were used on a mass scale for the first time during this war, for example in the chlorine gas attack near Ypres on April 22, 1915. The chemist received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1918 for the synthesis of ammonia. In March 1919, the German Society for Pest Control (Degesch) was founded, initially headed by him and, from 1920, Walter Heerdt. Since the founding of I.G. Farben joined their supervisory board in 1925. Haber was able to maintain his leadership position through the institute even after the end of the war in the Weimar Republic.
It was only after Adolf Hitler came to power in January 1933 that the chemist of Jewish descent was forced out of his position and scientific work in Germany. He emigrated in 1933, first to Great Britain and then to Switzerland.

Rasser also appeared together with Paul Hubschmid and Gustav Knuth in "Palace Hotel" (1952), the film version of the Carl Zuckmayer play "Der Fröhliche Weinberg/The Grapes are ripe" (1952) and as his last movie in Kurt Gloor's magnificent "Die plötzliche Einsamkeit des Konrad Steiner/The Sudden Loneliness of Konrad Steiner" (1976) together with Sigfrit Steiner. Besides his stage and movie career, Alfred Rasser, who was a painter by training and also worked as a chicken breeder, book-keeper and cabaret performer, also served as a'high politician in the Swiss National Council (1967-1975). - The Swiss actor and singer Max Knapp (born in Zurich on 13-11-1899) first learned woodcarving from his father but soon turned to his true passion, dramatic art. After taking acting and singing lessons, he embarked on a long and fruitful career, judge for yourself: from 1917 to 1920, he performed at the Zurich City Theatre; between 1920 and 1926, he was a member of the Theater of Saint Gall and from 1926 to 1928, of the Wuppertal (Rhineland) theater. After that, he became a fixture of the Basel Stadttheater, from 1928 until his death. i.e... fifty-one years later! Knapp's talents were varied : being cheeky and cheerful, he was a born comedian, but being endowed with great means, he also shone in tragic roles. As if playing one role after the other was not enough, Knapp started directing as of 1947. To say nothing of the numerous radio, television and film productions he participated in. In 1966, his merits were crowned by the Hans Reinhart Ring. He died in Basel on 16-12-1979, at the age of eighty, after donating his person in no less than 900 roles in plays, in operas and operettas (his last appearance was in "The Marriage of Figaro" at 80!).
