Raymond Bailey was a great example of "If at first you don't succeed..." After high school, Bailey headed for Hollywood with the intent on becoming a movie star, but soon found it tougher than he thought. Instead Bailey went into a high finance career working as stockbroker and banker. He made a second stab at Hollywood, and again had no success. He then became a seaman, working on various freighters and travelling all over the world. Bailey also worked on a pineapple plantation in Hawaii, and tried his luck in the local theatre. Deciding to give Hollywood one more try in 1938, he got lucky getting several small parts in the movies which eventually evolved into bigger character roles. When television became big, Bailey was in demand for parts and it was there he got his most famous part on the hit sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies (1962), as (ironically) banker Milburn Drysdale, whose fists were tighter than Elly May's pants. After the show ended, he did a few movie roles.- Actress

Sunny, dynamic and beautiful slender blonde actress Jillian Kesner was born on August 9, 1949 in Portsmouth, Virginia and grew up primarily in Denver, Colorado. Her father was a Navy officer. Jillian received a B.A. in business from a Colorado university in 1967. In 1969 Kesner moved to Los Angeles, California and worked as a model prior to embarking on an acting career in both movies and television. Jillian made her impressive film debut as fiery juvenile delinquent Carrie in the fun drive-in exploitation romp "The Student Body." (She met her future husband and noted cinematographer Gary Graver while acting in this particular picture.) Other memorable movie roles include the sweetly kooky, yet intelligent Angel in the amusing "Starhops," tough, but sexy karate instructor Susanne Carter in the hugely enjoyable "Firecracker," feisty martial arts expert Cookie Winchell in the gloriously tasteless "Raw Force," and alluring vampiress Claudia in the lowbrow hoot "Beverly Hills Vamp." Kesner was a regular cast member of the short-lived sitcom "Co-ed Fever." Perhaps best known to the general public as Fonzie's girlfriend Lorraine on "Happy Days," Jillian made guest appearances on such TV shows as "S.W.A.T.," "The Blue Knight," "The Rockford Files," "Three's Company," "Mork & Mindy," and "T.J. Hooker." Outside of her acting credits, Jillian also handled production coordinator chores on a handful of low-budget straight-to-video movies that were directed by Graver. In addition, both Kesner and Graver tried to complete Orson Welles's unfinished film "The Other Side of the Wind." Following Graver's death in 2006, Jillian continued her efforts to preserve Welles's cinematic legacy. Jillian Kesner died at age 58 from a staph infection on December 5, 2007 in Irvine, California.- Actor

- Jeanne Carmen spent her early childhood in Paragould, Arkansas with her family picking cotton. At age 13, she ran away from home, eventually landing in New York City and taking a job as a dancer in an off-Broadway touring company. The early 1950s found her in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the company of the likes of mobster Johnny Roselli. She discovered she had a natural talent for the game of golf and made great hay and much money hustling on the links. In the early 1950s, she turned her back on the game of golf and went to Hollywood, where she was often in the company of some of that town's most notable swingers, men like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and many others. She also maintained a close relationship with Marilyn Monroe. Jeanne never made it into the "big" movies but appeared in many "B" pictures, and was quite an item at the celebrity parties. After the death of her close friend Monroe, Carmen dropped out of sight and resided in Arizona for over a decade. On December 20, 2007, Jeanne Carmen died at age 77 from lymphoma at her Orange County, California home, where she resided since 1978.

Legendary editor whose wizardry in creating innumerable sound effects from everyday objects helped elevate Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies to rank among the most popular cartoons ever made. Tregoweth Edmond Brown was born in Gilbert, Minnesota, in November 1899. Pursuing a musical career early on, he made his first foray as a performer in vaudeville. Later, he worked as a sideman for several notable jazz bands (he played banjo in Benny Meroff's orchestra and was on guitar for Red Nichols and his 'Five Pennies'). He moved to California during the Depression era, and, from 1932 to 1934, served as music editor on Cecil B. DeMille features at Paramount, gaining valuable experience.
By the time he joined Carl W. Stalling at Leon Schlesinger's 'Termite Terrace', Brown was an accomplished multi-instrumentalist in his own right, backed by his own orchestra. He went on to excel at integrating his sound effects with Stalling's orchestrations. It was, first and foremost, Brown's inventiveness and boundless imagination which brought a motion picture quality to Warner Brothers cartoons. Not content with simply using musical instruments to create sound effects, he would instead raid the studio library for sounds from action films. Incorporating these added a touch of aural realism to the visual fantasy on the screen and thereby heightened the desired dramatic effect. Brown also ventured 'into the field' with a tape recorder to capture a multitude of noises which eventually became part of a great sound effects library created on film to be used over and over again (for example, he recorded the audience and animal sounds during a bullfight in Barcelona for Bully for Bugs (1953)). Brown presided over an entire garage full of noise-making devices.
Treg Brown is credited with introducing the hitherto unknown radio actor Mel Blanc to Schlesinger's illustrious line-up of animators (who included Tex Avery, Robert Clampett and Friz Freleng) and effectively got him hired. History was made that day. Brown himself received a Best Sound Effects Oscar late in his career for The Great Race (1965).- Actor

The jazz critic George T. Simon described Byrne in a 1940 review as a "brilliant young trombonist" and his band as "one of the finest...to pop over the dance band horizon in a long time". Byrne was indeed something of a child prodigy and by the age of 16 was a fully fledged member of The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra. When Tommy Dorsey left to form his own band, Byrne remained to fill his now vacant chair as lead trombonist with Jimmy Dorsey's outfit. His jazz solos won him such a following that (with Jimmy's blessing) he formed his own big band in 1939.
Several top notch signings made this band an instant success, particularly Don Redman as arranger, bassist Abe Siegel, pianist Gabriel Julian, vocalist Dorothy Claire and drummer Shelly Manne. Byrne hit the big time in mid-1941, when Michael DeZutter got him a summer spot at the famous Glen Island Casino in New York, preceded by a stint at Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook. A recording contract with Decca, radio broadcasts and Hollywood followed. A change of arranger, with Sid Brantley replacing Redman, actually suited the changing style of the band. In early 1943, Byrne, an experienced pilot, accepted an Air Force commission and disbanded the orchestra. After the war, he put together another short-lived outfit which included saxophonist Larry Elgart and arranger Charles Albertine. The band was good, but George Simon observed, as he had with Byrne's previous group, that a noticeable amount of tension existed among the sidemen which he put down to the leader's heavy hand in demanding musical perfection and which he thought "was the only apparent reason for the Bobby Byrne band not being one of the country's leading crews". In the 1950's, leading a Dixieland-style orchestra, Byrne became musical director for The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956). He subsequently appeared on The Lucky Strike Hit Parade, The Milton Berle Show (1958) and (for 11 years) on Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall (1948), before ending his career as a senior executive with Command Records.- Jerry Grant was born on 23 January 1935 in Seattle, Washington, USA.
