To celebrate the 150th anniversary of The Tube, London Underground are organising for an old Metropolitan steam loco to haul trains along the first section of line to open, the Metropolitan Railway from Paddington to Farringdon, and at Farringdon they are preparing for a royal visit by Prince Charles and Camilla.

Four suicide bombers struck in central London on Thursday 7 July 2005 killing 52 people and injuring more than 770. 3 bombs went off at 08.50 BST on underground trains and one about an hour later on a number 30 double-decker bus at Russell Square. 26 people were killed on the tube at Russell Square and 340 were injured. The bomber was Germaine Lindsay, aged 19. 13 people were killed on the bus at Tavistock Square and 110 were injured. The bomber was Hasib Hussain, aged 18. 7 people were killed on the tube at Aldgate and 171 were injured. The bomber was Shehzad Tanweer, aged 24. 6 people were killed on the tube at Edgeware Road and 163 were injured. The bomber was Mohammad Sidique Khan, aged 30.
- In 1913 the British government, hearing that the Germans are planning World War I, ask top agent Whinfrey to intervene, but instead he decides to go on holiday to Cornish fishing village Torpoint. Here he believes he has stumbled upon a smuggling ring, but in fact they are Germans who are masquerading as locals in an advance invasion party. The British arrive and arrest them, believing that Whinfrey deliberately planned everything - though it is apparent that he did not.

Then Helen Vine, a respected American pathologist who, like Ryan,, had spent time in Africa, is also murdered. Confused psychiatric patient Fergus Weir is released to the care of his sister Ella but disappears and CCTV shows him to have been at Helen's hotel, leading to his arrest and confession. Nikki spends the night with Matt but has a rude awakening.
