- Gloria Fowler, injured in a car accident, awaits plastic surgery to correct a congenital facial disfiguration. She develops a close relationship with fellow patient Eddie Boyd, unaware that his prognosis is terminal. Meanwhile, the lines between a professional and personal relationship are blurred for Casey and his beautiful coma patient Jane Hancock.
- Having discovered Faith Parsons's excuse of a back injury to feed her addiction to morphine, Zorba demands that Casey make changes in her treatment. Faith then cleverly exploits the attention of a young hospital visitor to help her procure the drug she craves.

Some speculate that meek, obsequious Miriam in fact harbors hostility toward the Major, while the Mervishes mock the couple's staid, perfunctory habits during an impromptu performance for the bar's amusement. Meanwhile, Major Woolley becomes obsessed with the idea that a parcel dispatched from home is being intentionally withheld from him, and Miriam grows more paranoid about intruders in her garden. Erik and Ann intercede but are unable to halt a series of events which culminate in a shocking act of violence.

Crystal informs John Bradley about Kim's willingness to help Maria's case. Brad refuses to give Debbie his film, until she trusts him enough to tell him about her mother's predicament. Patricia discovers a secret passage from the upstairs to the cellar and tells Cissie it will be easier for them to move the drug money now. With escrow set to close in a few hours, Goddard remarks to Rita that he has another plan to stop Patricia. The developer who has been pressuring Goddard to get the inn from Patricia comes to talk with her, and she recognizes him as Tony Osorio, an associate of her husband who made the cassette tape of her razor attack. Holly and Jerry bond over their love of nature. Kath suffers an attack during another confrontation with Maria and is told by Dr. Armstrong she needs heart surgery. Crystal becomes the sole breadwinner when Randy is injured in an accident and can't work. As Cissie's party to celebrate the escrow close gets underway, she and Patricia discover the drug money is missing from the cellar.
- The shooting victim is pronounced dead. Jim and Maureen quarrel after he learns she kept Martin's secret. Sister Scott catches Tania making a suspicious phone call while on duty. Laura and Brian argue about Dr. Snape, who irritates everyone but Laura. Sister Scott suddenly becomes hysterical while talking with Susan, who has attempted a truce.

Sister Evans learns a current member of the staff once worked at the same clinic as Scotty and Dr. Wentworth.

Maureen rejects Jim's warm overtures. Jim receives another mysterious phone call and promises the caller that more money is on the way.
