PamelaShort26 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Jack Pickford plays Jack Ranney, a boxer on the run and trying to prove his bravery in this lost silent film. Young bantam weight fighter Jack, has agreed to challenge 'Young' Kilroy, ( Leo Houck ) however he is unaware that Kilroy has a crooked manager who has fixed the fight in Jack's favour. With his first punch, Jack knocks his opponent out cold, when he is informed that Kilroy is dead, the young fighter heads West in a hurry. Jack's sweetheart, Mary Dwyer, ( Louise Huff ), learns that Kilroy is really alive and forces his manager to turn over the gate receipts. Meanwhile, Jack has found work on a ranch, boasting to his fellow ranch hands that he is a killer, but they are not impressed and dismiss him as a greenhorn. After receiving a letter from Jack, Mary travels West to join him, arriving just in time to see Jack prove his courage during a raid by Lopez Cabrillo ( J.H.Holland ) and his notorious gang. Jack has managed to hold off the entire gang single-handedly with only his fists, until reinforcements arrive. Jack and Jill was directed by William Desmond Taylor and starred Jack Pickford, brother of the most popular silent film star of the time, Mary Pickford. Fans of silent cinema can only hope a copy of this lost 1917 film someday resurfaces.
