Good Gracious, Annabelle (1919) - Lost Film
PamelaShort5 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After witnessing her father's death in a fight over a mine claim, Annabelle Leigh ( Billie Burke ) marries crude western miner John Rawson ( Herbert Rawlinson ). Overcome with loneliness living in a cabin, Annabelle cries endlessly, so John sets her free to go live in New York City. Annabelle now lives an extravagant lifestyle in a fashionable New York hotel on payments sent by her generous husband. She is soon in great debt and sells her father's mining stock to dishonourable financier George Wimbledon ( Crauford Kent ). However, she remains broke and in danger of being named co-respondent in a divorce suit, she persuades Wimbledon's butler to hire her as a cook at his Long Island estate. Meanwhile, John now clean cut, arrives in town to get the stock to give him control of the mine, and not recognizing Annabelle as his wife, falls in love with her and rents the mansion secretly from the butler. While Wimbledon drunkenly sleeps, Annabelle recovers the stock and tells John she is going to find her husband and is delightfully surprised when he reveals his identity.

This 1919 society comedy produced by the Famous Players Lasky Company, starring the beautiful actress Billie Burke, was based on the Broadway play, Good Gracious, Annabelle by Clare Kummer. Sadly the film version is now considered lost.
