- Capt. Robert Kent is assigned by British Secret Service in India to discover the identity of a traitor responsible for a leakage in British code messages. Disguising himself as a rajah, he penetrates the most exclusive circles of Indian society. Suspicion at first falls upon Wyndham, a man of weak character, but he is mysteriously killed at the home of Colonel Wentworth, and in turn Maharajah Jehan and Captain Graves are involved. Pursuing his investigations, Kent meets Sarissa, a beautiful dancing girl--also a Secret Service agent--with whom he falls in love and whose assistance is largely responsible for his success. Following many complications, he proves the traitor to be Colonel Wentworth.—AFI
- Captain Robert Kent of the British Foreign Office meets with his superiors at Downing Street. He is sent to Delhi, where diplomatic messages have been stolen and relayed to Maharajah Jehan, leader of a revolutionary party. Kent goes disguised as Rajah Rhonda. He is a guest at a dinner given by Colonel Wentworth, who is in command of the British forces. All the suspects are gathered at the dinner, including Major Burnham and his daughter Doris, Captain Graves and his wife Norma, Lieutenant Wyndham, and the Maharajah Jehan.
When a toast is proposed to the King, Wyndham drops his glass, which casts suspicion on his loyalty. Later, in Kent's room, Wyndham suspects that the officer is not a true Indian prince, and confronts Kent with a jade elephant, the gift of the real Rhonda's father to Wyndham's father. Wyndham tells Kent is he anxious to assist him in finding the guilty party. He is about to name the man he suspects when a shot fired through an open window kills Wyndham. Colonel Wentworth and Captain Graves rush to Kent's room, which seemingly clears them of the crime. Kent then suspects Major Burnham. A guard reports that a mysterious woman was seen running away from the building. Wentworth suggests the woman may be Sarissa, a dancer in whom Wyndham had been interested. Kent and Wentworth visit the café where Sarissa dances. There they find Jehan and Graves, which casts suspicion on the pair. Kent later revisits the café and talks to Sarissa.
He learns that she was at the garrison when Wyndham was killed, that Jehan is an admirer, and she and Graves are old friends. She tells Kent she saw a man in uniform run from the quarters and that it might have been Burnham. The next day, Kent's suspicions about Burnham are confirmed when Doris tells him her father was not home the night of the murder. Kent tells Wentworth he will send a cable to Burnham, announcing a tax on "jute" and another cable to Graves announcing a tax on "hemp." Whichever information is released will point to the guilty man.
Norma Graves, who is in love with Jehan, learns that he has been seeing Sarissa. Burnham, Graves, and Kent are guests at Jehan's when Mrs. Graves forces her way into the room. Jehan has arranged for Sarissa to dance, which arouses the jealousy in Mrs. Graves.
The next morning Wentworth advises Kent that the message on "hemp" was leaked. Kent declares he will arrest Major Graves that afternoon. Kent goes to Graves's bungalow and arrests him. Mrs. Graves, who had been in league with Jehan, kills herself with Graves' revolver. When Wentworth arrives, he denounces Graves. Then Kent reveals that the two messages were never sent, and charges Wentworth with treason. Sarissa is revealed to be an English agent in the secret service, and she comforts Graves. Her testimony condemns Wentworth as the murderer of Wyndham. Kent, no longer disguised as the rajah, proposes to Doris. Major Burnham is promoted to command of the garrison.
