MEDIOCRE SYNOPSIS OF THE OPERA
This adaptation of d'Albert's opera without music hardly makes compelling viewing; the mediocre-scripted synopsis approach (the opera in just an hour) makes a fragmented film, that is not helped by at best mediocre directing (I think Licho only made one other film, which seems to me a sensible idea) and bad pacing. Either is there any balance: while some scenes are almost tòo short to recollect them, others (e.g. the scene with Sebastianos climbing up the mountain to meet Pedro) are too long and meaningless.
Lil Dagover does not fit the part and does not know very well how to characterize her part (and probably director Licho did not know as well), but Michael Bohnen plays his part quite well though he has bad moments too.
There is one very nice aspect to this film: it is entirely shot on location, though it is not clear where it is (the Pyrenees?).
