It was after seeing this film that Jack Warner offered Curtiz a contract at his Hollywood studio, where the director would make his most well known films during the next two decades.
When the film opened in England, it was around the same time as De Mille's Ten Commandments which also featured a scene of the Israelites fleeing the Egyptians through the parting of the Red Sea. in the US this conflict between competing versions of the same material was avoided when Paramount, which had produced The Ten Commandments, bought Moon of Israel and did not let it get released until 1927.
