- A country doctor helps a young couple to elope, and comes near to losing his practice and his happiness through the hostility of the boy's father.
- In the rural community where Dr. Amos Rinker practices, the affections of Opal Jones and Joe Harding are opposed by the boy's father, Ira, who scorns Opal's mother as a sinful woman. Believing herself a handicap, the woman commits suicide; Ira then threatens to place Opal and her brother Sard in the poorhouse, but Amos takes them into his home, thus incurring the displeasure of Ira. Although Amos greatly desires a position at a new hospital, Ira's influence crushes all his hopes. Meanwhile, Joe is injured by a falling tree; Sard is dispatched for help in a blizzard; and when the city physician refuses to go, Amos braves the storm. Joe is trapped by a fire in the cabin, but Amos rescues him and performs a successful operation. With the coming of spring, Amos recovers from his arduous experience and the young couple find happier days.
