There Must Be Someone for Me

Mona Maris has just been affianced to a foreign Prince by her rake of an uncle, but she won't marry a man she doesn't love, so she runs off to become a dress model, falling in love with a car salesman, while her uncle hires Dina Gralla, a good time girl, to impersonate her.

This being a romantic comedy, you can pretty much predict how things will turn out, but the plot is nicely ornamented. That wouldn't do it for me, but the lead comics, Miss Grall and Curt Bois are excellent. Miss Grall is a little shaky in her early scenes, but very funny as a fake princess. Mr. Bois, however, in the early adult phase of what would be an eighty-year career, goes through all the comic standards, including pratfalls and a drag performance. He also seems to be channeling the comic performances of Ernst Lubitsch -- who directed him in THE OYSTER PRINCESS.

The result is a very pleasant if not very remarkable movie. It's also available in a very good print, which is more than can be said about a lot of movies from 1927.
