Franklin Dyall: John Rool
Quotes
-
John Rool : Thanks. Leave me here. I'm only in the way on deck. At least 150 people so far have fallen over my chair. Fifteen of them have cursed me. Besides, the whole thing's too damned silly.
Pointer : Then you do not believe it to be really serious, sir?
John Rool : No, of course not. This ship is no more likely to sink than St Paul's Cathedral. Although they're always mucking about with that.
-
Clara Tate-Hughes : I'm not going to give way to panic as long as the ship's perfectly safe.
Betty Tate-Hughes : I'm not going to move for anyone.
John Rool : You do what your father tells you, child.
Betty Tate-Hughes : [scornfully] father, huh!
Clara Tate-Hughes : [scornfully] Your father...
John Rool : Betty, you little fool. He's trying to save your life.
Betty Tate-Hughes : Save my life?
Clara Tate-Hughes : What do you mean?
John Rool : The ship that you thought so safe will sink in about two hours.
Betty Tate-Hughes : Mr Rool!
Clara Tate-Hughes : Good god!
Betty Tate-Hughes : Mother!
John Rool : And the measure of your father's love is... that he hasn't told you.
Betty Tate-Hughes : Daddy! Daddy!
Clara Tate-Hughes : It's not true. Freddie, it can't be true.
Freddie Tate-Hughes : I'm afraid it is, Clara.
Betty Tate-Hughes : But you must come too. You must come.
Freddie Tate-Hughes : I can't, my dear. I would if I could.
-
John Rool : Hello, Tate-Hughes. Seen your women off?
Freddie Tate-Hughes : No. I haven't. Neither wife nor daughter will go. The wife won't leave her luggage or the dresses she bought in Paris. Betty's merely rude.
John Rool : Better make 'em go.
Freddie Tate-Hughes : I can't. They won't listen to me. They're huffy about something.
John Rool : Mrs Lilly, hmmm?
Freddie Tate-Hughes : Something like that.
John Rool : Anyhow, if you still love your wife and daughter, you'd better get them to the boats without delay.
Freddie Tate-Hughes : Why? The ship's quite safe, isn't it?
John Rool : Oh, yes... for a couple of hours.
