- Young man (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) attempts to break up an engagement between a woman (Loretta Young) and an older man (Edmund Breon).
- In Latin America, Larry O'Brien (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) sees Diane Forsythe (Loretta Young) and quickly falls in love. She, however, is engaged to marry the much older Clive Lattimer (Edmund Breon). Larry discovers that her motive is to save her stepfather, Areal Pacheco (Henry Kolker), from being shot. Pacheco, the Minister of Finance, has embezzled $200,000 from the national treasury, and an audit is scheduled soon. Lattimer is extremely wealthy and willing to make up the shortfall in exchange for Diane. To keep Larry from disrupting the arrangement, Pacheco has his butler Luigi (Boris Karloff) arrange Diane's kidnapping (to Lattimer's country estate). Larry rescues Diane and leaves her in the care of his friend, Archie Lester (Claud Allister). Then he telephones a newspaper to report his "ransom" demand of $200,000. Citizens demand Pacheco pay the sum, but Larry points out that Diane's fiancé is the only person in the country with access to that much money. Lattimer refuses at first, but soon caves in to the outrage. Larry collects the money at the arranged drop-off point and later presents it to Pacheco, who then cancels Diane's engagement to Lattimer.
- Larry O'Brien (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) is forcibly evicted from a Central American country and is trying to decide where to go next when he sees Diane Forsythe (Loretta Young) riding past in a chauffeur-driven car. He follows her and learns she is the stepdaughter of finance minister Areal Pacheco (Henry Kolker) and is about to marry the wealthy and much older Clive Latimer (Edmund Breon). Larry tries to dissuade Diane from the marriage. Larry suspects that Pacheco has been borrowing money from the country's funds and that Latimer has promised him the money in return for Diane's hand. A visit to Pacheco confirms Larry's suspicions. Determined to keep Diane away from Larry, Pacheco and Latimer arrange to have her kidnapped until the marriage can take place. Larry learns of the plans and, disguising himself as one of the kidnappers, spirits Diane away to the house of his friend, Archie Lester (Claud Allister). Disguising his voice, he demands ransom money from Pacheco equaling the amount that Pacheco owes to the national coffers, and then pressures Latimer into providing the ransom. After he receives the money, Diane returns home. Larry gives Pacheco the money in exchange for Diane, leaving Latimer and Pacheco to quarrel about who is really entitled to the money.
