Stranded (1935)
Donald Woods: John Wesley
Quotes
-
John Wesley : So, you don't think much of social workers?
Mack Hale : Too much sweetness and light gets on my nerves. There are only 2 kinds of men: workers, and no-workers. You people are off on the wrong foot, sticking your nose into other people's business. My guys *have* to mind their own business, or pretty soon they haven't got a business.
John Wesley : But don't you see that all the beautiful things built of stone, and steel, and wood are for the use of humanity?
Mack Hale : Don't you go sticking beauty and art and humanity into my work. It's a sweaty, dirty job of rigging steel, boring holes and driving rivets. It'll stand against a 90-mile gale and all the strain she'll pack.
Lynn Palmer : Remember this, Mack: after you've finished this job and gone, there's only one thing that'll keep that pile of steel and rock alive.
Mack Hale : What's that?
Lynn Palmer : The people who use it.
