GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN
J. Steed20 March 1999
After much deliberations the final script was completed, but no one seems to have been really satisfied, certainly not Hans Albers whose last but one regular UFA film this would be. And I think it shows: everyone checked in, but did not like the room.

Albers' acting is not more than routine (although that is still worthwhile); and the very talented Gustav Ucicky must have had several off-days, because the film is too slow moving and lacks atmosphere. What could have been a highly entertaining thriller (the script is good), is, alas, no more than a passable film.

Brigitte Horney, who dominates Hans Albers (quite an achievement!), also makes this film worth a look; and the asylum scenes are very well done.
