Out in the fields, a character spills a can of coal oil and the duo walking spot it and conclude they have found an oil field and will get rich. Merry japes ensue taking the action into a shop they smash up, a paddle boat, the police ambulance and onto the stage where the young romantic leads are performing.
In the mean time an American, financed by a local capitalist has surveyed the area and knows there is no oil, turning all against them.
The comic duo are passable as is the depiction of village life, with a few attempts at film form, like the split screen of the wife and the supposed oil field. An attempt at pacing things up with jerky edits works less well and passages of solid dialogue drag. A jazzy thirties score is the major asset.
