The times claimed that this film had Nazi propaganda in it,about only trusting the Nazis.I did not see nothing in it about that.True that Veit Harlan is guilty of making a well made hate film Judd Suss as well as pro military Kolberg, homophobic film bewildered youth.I feel the rest of the films were just Hollywood style type productions. You might as well as saying Hanna Amon was a deep wish for the days of the Nazis.Christine Soderbaum and Eugene Klopfer make show up again in this film as niece Annchen and her Uncle ,a minister. This was before Judd Suss and Golden city.Werner Hienz Kaplan Von Schigorski her brother and minister who lives in the same directory .The movie takes place in 1899.It includes an old American song ,long ,long ago.The plot is that Eugen's nephew comes home from college, played by Herman Braun. It centers around the two characters Annchen and Hans becoming smitten with each other and how it makes Kaplan jealous. Then she's drawn to Hans ,they both end up losing their virginity. Because of her strict up bring by her father Hoppe it affects her and she ends up committing suicide. On again Elizabeth Flickenschildt plays the house servant. This was adapted to the screen by Thea Von Harbou.I'm wondering if those other reviewers were berating this film just because of Judd Suss and Veit being a member of the Nazi party, the play by Max Halbe was the same way.I think this was just plain escapism propaganda.Usually the escapism type just had barley any Nazi propaganda in it.11/27/13
