Forbidden Passage (1941) Poster

Addison Richards: Frank J. Maxwell

Quotes

  • Frank J. Maxwell : The immigration laws of the United States are designed to admit as many foreign-born as can be absorbed, without seriously jeopardizing the economic and social existence of this country. Today, however, ruthless smugglers take advantage of the chaotic conditions abroad to prey on innocent people, unable to enter the United States because of overtaxed immigration quotas.

  • Frank J. Maxwell : In addition to Rivas, there were Russians and Chinese. Now, I don't think they're running them out of Portugal.

Clements : I'd say they must be shipping them to some concentration point, here in the Caribbean, first.

Frank J. Maxwell : Yes, but where's that concentration point? Cuba? Haiti? Honduras? That's our little problem.

  • [last lines]

Frank J. Maxwell : This ring was smashed. But unfortunately, others continue to operate. Some of you, in this audience, have relatives or friends waiting to enter the United States. Don't make the mistake of helping them in through irregular channels. Their very lives might be the forfeit.
